I dont care about grammar...it just bugs me when people use English words in our country.

You know, a few years ago we brought the French into this conversation with our Blue/Bleu cheeseburger basket talk.

Where do you stand there???
I would have to say neither - not a fan of the Bleu

Kickoff has been released.

1 - Wartburg 6-1
2 - Dubuque  5-2
3 - Central     4-3
4 - Coe          4-3
5 - Simpson   4-3
6 - Luther      2-5
7 - BVU          2-5
8 - Loras        1-6

Of course, we should take all preseason polls...even Pat/Keith with a grain of salt.
This is final isn't it?

Possibly.  And a result that wouldn't make me unhappy.  The only thing that makes me question its reliability is it has Luther at 2-5 in conference and 4-6 overall.  Where the Norse will get their 2 non-con wins is an interesting thought for me.   ;D

The Iowa Conference waited until friday afternoon, but here is their football season preview and coaches poll.

Let the outrage, the what the hecks, and what were they thinkings commence...

I wonder what the coach knows that voted for Central.  I know that you can not vote for your own school so what coach would think that Central will win the IIAC?

My guess is Willis voted Central because...well, why not.  Willis is old school and old school says it's a Central/Wartburg world.  I think Zweifel voted for Simpson...the last 2 years during the pregame interview he really talked the Storm up and said they were headed for big things.  Plus, Zweifel probably just couldn't bear to write Wartburg into that spot ;D

And Walner Belleus had a bigger impact than stats show.  In an early season game against Luther he had a kickoff return for a TD, a punt return for a TD, on defense he had an INT and forced a fumble, on offense he had 6 receptions for over 100 yards and 1 TD.  After that game no one would kickoff or punt to him and no one would throw towards him.  Defensively that freed up the D to load up the box and stop the run.  Special teams gained a field position advantage.  While Belleus may not have been all-world, he was 1st team all-conference special teams, 2nd team all-conference receiver (on a team that featured the run) and honorable mention DB (no one would throw the ball near him).  And Belleus came into UD with nowhere near the credentials the VA Tech transfer has.

I'd agree with doolittle here. Belleus was the a super hyped athlete who in a weird way was almost underappreciated on the field when he played in the IIAC. He was a remarkable athlete that teams went out of there way to avoid at all costs.

But I have no idea how the VA Tech kid will stack up. The HS rating system is really limited. They project an omniscient ability to rate all these players. IMO, they tend to do best on rating the elite level talent on the best teams playing in the most talent rich areas (which may be just what this VA Tech kid was). So if you're a stud RB on a good team in TX, they are going to invest resources and manpower to dissect just how good you are. If you're a stud RB on an average IA of SD team, the accuracy of the rating is greatly diminished. And the less stat heavy your position, the more extreme the swing of precision. A great DT on a below average team off the beaten path will get nary a look on those websites. They'll maybe just throw 2 stars at the kid to make it look like he was actually scouted.

Bottom line, some kids are legit, some don't pan out and there are tons of diamonds in the rough. Fred Jackson or Pierre Garcon anyone? But if I was UD, I'd be excited to have gotten a transfer that looks to have the makings of a good player.

Wallner was a good player but he had no impact in the Central game.  If memory serves he even fumbled a kickoff return in the endzone to give Central a larger lead.  My point here is not to tear a player down as he was a good player and had many gifts on the field.  My point is that a player with hype has to prove himself on the field every game to prove that the hype is justified.

CR Gazette on Coe
http://thegazette.com/2012/08/21/coe-rankled-by-preseason-snub-promises-to-be-iiac-contender/

"Kudos to his coaching counterparts in the Iowa Conference. Steve Staker thanks you.

They picked his Coe Kohawks to finish fifth in their preseason football poll. Dubuque's the obvious favorite to repeat, with Wartburg, Central and up-and-comer Simpson selected after that.

Then it's Coe. The same Coe that's been to the NCAA playoffs four times in the last 10 years, that has finished second in the IIAC the previous three seasons and that returns 34 letterwinners, 12 starters and two preseason all-Americans from a 6-4 team in 2011.

It just doesn't compute.

"That's definitely something that can give us a little motivation," said defensive end Frank Weymiller during Coe's Media Day Tuesday. "I think the goal at Coe is always to compete and try and win the conference every year. It's definitely no different this year. We expect to be competing for the conference.""

Evidently there are some players who do think being snubbed in a preseason poll is motivating.  But I suppose he could be the exception to the rule.   ;)

Nah, no way. I'm sure they think they are doing a good enough job.

I thought it had already been exhaustively shown that only inferior athletes were motivated by being snubbed. Guess that doesn't bode well for Coe this year.  ::)

And I'll be sure to tell Michael Jordan the conclusions of our scientific study on athletic motivation  ;D

Okay so what am I supposed to do if I want Central to win this year?  How is this?  Central sucks!  I guess now that Cornell is gone Central gets their spot in the IIAC cellar.  I wonder if Central players know how to get to the weight room since they are all so skinny and weak.

Are any players reading?  Are you motivated yet?  I can keep this up for as long as it takes.

I don't think that kind of motivation works with Dutch players.  ;)

putmeincoach

seriously - I think Central may be in a rebuilding year

the Dutch are not accustom to finishing in the middle of the conference

with a tougher non-conference schedule and Cornell off the schedule...is there a possibility they end up around .500?

Oshkosh = L
Augustana = W
Albion = ?
Dubuque = L
Simpson = ?
BV = W
Luther = W
Loras = W
Wartburg = L
Coe = L

Now -  IF they go into Oshkosh and play well this may change everything!!
