Call me crazy but looking at augustana's non conference schedule versus 3 iiac teams, I am wondering if they are sizing up the competition getting ready for a move permanently to the iiac?

Augustana is looking to go 1-2 vs the IIAC...pretty much the same percentage as they will have in the CCIW...in case they are contemplating pulling a Cornell and looking for an easier schedule in a new conference, so that might not work.  Plus, I'm old school, the Iowa Conference should have Iowa teams.  I do have a sister that lives in Bettendorf, so that would work out well for my family travel wise and would also make a convenient excuse to visit the Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire.

Perhaps no other team in the IIAC has more question marks than the Dutch, and, sticking to his ways, Coach MacMartin has actually seemed to raise more questions than he answers in the Dutch's press release....

Quarterback...................

Wow, that is one big QB!! (I assume a typo here).

Mind games that would make Hayden Fry proud.  "Whoa is me, it will be a long year for us Central coaches and players"  Then they run off a string of wins.  I don't think I'm buying it.

As wartknight says...A 6-1, 295lb QB  :o  That's either a typo, or he'll put a hurtin' to many an opposing defender this year.

Though the Dutch could be in for a down year by their standards.  Will Central Dutch fans be like Northwestern Raiders fans and demand a coaching change if they go 3 seasons without a playoff appearance???

I like to think that Central fans are smarter than the average fan....but then again last year got pretty damn ridiculous with some of the central fan comments so who knows.

I live somewhat close to Wartburg and have been hearing all summer long that the Wartburg coaches are very happy with their recruiting class.  Take that with a grain of salt maybe.  Dads of players and recent grads can get a little excited for their team.  Unlike me of course...I always look at Dubuque with a level headed approach ;)
I never look @ the Knights through my orange glasses!! ;)
I too have heard good things regarding the Wart recruits (only time will tell)..... It seems they had their roster up early this year (b4 camp?) with incoming freshman listed. I had some time to waste one day so I traced some of the incoming frosh to their highlight tapes (I know, they are called highlights for a reason!!), but was impressed with what I saw.

I know I am biased towards Augie, but last year was an aberration, not the norm. I certainly think they can defeat all 3 IIAC teams this year, and move back into the top of the CCIW. Last year the talent was there, but turnovers, special teams miscues, and some coaching errors cost them. Basically all the things good teams don't have an issue with. They need to clear those up, and I fully expect them to.

As for switching conferences, I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Last year was Augie's first losing season since 1978. They are competitive in all sports, and the CCIW is the best fit for them.
Sorry to hi-jack your board for that.

When did Northwestern do that?!? I think you've got your facts mixed up.

And Central already did pretty much just that when they dumped their last HC if I'm not mistaken.

I also  agree, we will not see the same Auggie team this year as last. They will be improved and if UD, central, and loras take them lightly, he could be right.

I feel they should be beat Loras handily and keep it close with UD and central where turnovers could make the difference.  Although I hope I am wrong and all 3 IIAC teams sweep them, I think it's very doubtful but again, underestimating Auggie is a big mistake.

So I ask this not to demean the team or players, but to get an honest response because I don't understand it. Why is everyone so high on Simpson?  They were an average team last year, which is par for the course for the storm. They didn't do anything spectacular last year. They had 5 losses last year, 3 of which were blowouts, and they barely beat the "lower tier" teams, and their marquee win was against a team who, lets be honest, has made losing 1 game a year they shouldn't their M.O. What is making this this team the up and comer because as I see it, they look to be another decent, but not good team this settling in probably 5th

I assume notlongago was refering to my beloved Knights.

Signature losses for Wartburg over the last ten seasons -

2002 lost to Coe a team which finished 8-1 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 8-1 in IIAC
2003 Undefeated regular season
2004 lost to Loras a team which finished 3-5 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 6-2 in IIAC
2005 lost to Luther a team which finished 5-3 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 6-2 in IIAC
2006 lost to Dubuque a team which finished 5-3 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 6-2 in IIAC
2007 lost to Augsburg (non-con) a team which finished 5-5  - Wartburg was 7-1 in IIAC 8-2 overall
2008 lost to Buena Vista a team which finished 6-2 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 7-1 in IIAC
2009 lost to Buena Vista a team which finished 3-5 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 5-3 in IIAC
2010 Undefeated regular season
2011 lost to Simpson a team which finished 5-3 in the IIAC - Wartburg was 6-2 in IIAC

The 2004 & 2009 signature losses had to be particularly difficult to swallow.
The other seasons' losses were to teams that were within one game of the Knights in the conference race.  That isn't too awful.

Having said that, I still have to agree with notlongago that the Knights have an M.O. of often losing one game a year that they shouldn't.

No, not you...there were some last season, of whom I've yet to see, that had wild opinions.
