Spending sunday at the office leads my mind to wander.  Which led me to find a picture of Wartburg fans practicing their tailgating skills one week before the season.

Not to be out done...Central fans are eagerly anticipating football season as well.

It's unclear what Loras fan is looking forward to...

I'm pretty sure I know what Dubuque fans are thinking about...

Ok, time to get back to work.
Good start to the week DD!! I hope you didn't get the "Loras" picture from your college photo album :) - that is creepy!
Looking forward to the home opener Sat, only negative - night game(although may allow a few of last year Knights to attend!). I am anxious to see the 2012 Warts, in particular the QB position.

Semi IIAC related.  KCRG Channel 9 sports did a story on the Cedar Rapids Headhunters Rugby team  Coocoo and CaliRam were interviewed and CaliRam also showed up in the highlights.  Also former UD football player "Shrek" got some camera time.

Well now that its game week, lets see some predictions and justifications.

BV vs. UW-Platteville: this one has a chance to be somewhat ugly. UW 35-10
Central vs. UW-Osh Kosh: Huge measuring stick for the Dutch. If they can keep it close, it bodes well for their season. UW-Osh-Kosh 31-21
Coe vs. Monmouth: Who misses their QB more? Ill Take Coe 27-17
Loras Vs. Elmhurst: Probably similar to last year. Elmhurst 42-14
Luther Vs. St. Olaf: Lets give one to Norse 24-17
Simpson Vs. UW- River Falls...over on the WIAC board they seem to think RF has got this one...Im going to disagree. Simpson 45-24
DBQ Vs. Auggie. Probably similar to last year, a game closer than it should be. DBQ will try to hide some stuff unless they need it. DBQ 31-24
Wartburg Vs. Macmurry. Breaking in a freshman QB will probably keep this game closer than it should be for awhile, but the knights pull away and starters watch the end from the sideline. 42-10

Hey notlongago, we have a pick-ems board.  My wife wants more of us in it this year.

Under General football, you will see Child Boards: Pick-ems, etc.  Click on there and find the IIAC page and put your picks in.  There are already close to 10 picks in.  My wife keeps track and posts the standings after each weekend.  If you are in 1st place at the end of the season you win...absolutely nothing!!!

But we have fun on there and talk about the picks and what not.

I'm used to winning absolutely nothing. I'm in!  :)

Is "Dutch Radio," around any more?  I wonder if he and Coach McMartin will be doing their radio show from Applebee's this year?  I enjoyed it last year.  Central is usually pretty good about advertising such things so it doesn't look good.

my thoughts are on the pick 'em board

pretty similar but I have UWRF over Simpson

again - I hope I am wrong and the IIAC pulls out a few more wins

The coaches corner is still on for tonight according to the KRLS website...I don't if Coach McMartin will be on though

Saw this in the DSM Rag the other day, and meant to post something on here, but didn't have a chance until now.  It looks like the Pioneer League champ will now receive an automatic birth in the 1AA (FCS) playoffs.  I was wondering how everyone felt this might indirectly effect the IIAC.  I know back in the good old days, even though I was only lightly recruited by Drake, one of the big reasons why I never seriously considered them as an option was because I wanted to play for something more than just a conference championship.  Will the allure of a chance to play with the big boys (and likely be one-and-done even if you do get there) be enough to cancel out the recruiting advantage that DIII and NAIA had over our FCS non scholly cousins?  How much is the IIAC recruiting against Drake these days?  Maybe I'm overplaying this, but I think back to my mindset as a 17 year old kid, and I feel as though I would be more inclined to seriously consider Drake football.  Wanted to get the perspective of the board.

I noticed the Spartans no longer have Nick Dew on their roster.  Which one of you has the details on that?

Yeah, I noticed that as well.  To paraphrase Bob Stoops after Brandon Wegher left Oklahoma after a few weeks..."well, that didn't last long."

It would have been fun to see what he could contribute to UD.  But if it isn't meant to be, then there are more players waiting to step in and take their shot.

Official transcripts came in and he wasn't eligible at V-Tech, thus, not eligible at UD. Staying in Dubuque though so hopefully grades improve and we'll get to see him in action next season. Of course I am as disappointed as the coaches I am sure are but in retrospect, he could have broken his ankle in the first game and red-shirted the season. Bottom line, other players have to step up to fill the void. That is why you recruit enough kids to have adequate depth on your roster.

Hard to imagine Drake going up against the likes of UNI.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀
