I noticed the Spartans no longer have Nick Dew on their roster.  Which one of you has the details on that?

Official transcripts came in and he wasn't eligible at V-Tech, thus, not eligible at UD. Staying in Dubuque though so hopefully grades improve and we'll get to see him in action next season. Of course I am as disappointed as the coaches I am sure are but in retrospect, he could have broken his ankle in the first game and red-shirted the season. Bottom line, other players have to step up to fill the void. That is why you recruit enough kids to have adequate depth on your roster.

I officially change my predictions for the conference race to having Wartburg in the lead followed closely by Coe and DBQ.

I listened to the Coaches Corner Radio show and had a few notes.

It was nice to hear from Don Deward, he offered a pretty raw view of the team, and he kept repeating the word "speed" when describing the defense. That is a word the Dutch would love to exemplify.

Jeff McMartin came out guns a blazin w/ psychological games. Not only did he not commit to a quarterback, he went on to raise questions about what kind of style the Dutch will play depending on the QB. either a pro-style drop back style (either Flarhety or Eisler as QB)  or an option read style (Broerm as QB)....and based on the past two Dutch QBs, we know Coach McMartin can do both styles....So Osh Kosh coaches, have fun planning for 2 totally different offenses  ;D

He had me psyched.  I won't accuse him of "coach speak," but it sounded a little like, just like everyone else, he won't know how good The Dutch are until he sees them against UWOshkosh.

I will miss it.  It is amazing how I can go for weeks at a time with nothing to do and then several things I want to do come up at the same time.  I call it simultaneous tedium diversion, or STD.  Funny the way people look at me when I tell them I've got an STD.

That is great news, glad to see he is staying in Dubuque and working on the grades.  Would love to see his in a Spartan uniform.

Will Boerm also get playing time at WR...or is he strictly looking to play QB?

The Coach did not elude either way...I assume if he doesn't play QB, he'd get on the field somewhere on the offensive side of the ball. Coach McMartin did speak highly of two WRs, Ben Lecthenberg and Blaine Forsithe, who moved over from QB. He said they will need to utilize their height (6'6" and 6'3")

Was Boerm the guy McMartin said might return kicks?  There was one of his quarterback candidates he said was too good an athlete to let him sit if he didn't qb.

I didn't hear the kick return part, but yes he would be referring to Boerm.

Looks like the Knights may have let one slip away. Transfer this term or last spring - no future for him @ Iowa?

Go ahead and let a few more slip away. haha.

I think he enrolled at Central after the Spring semester. There may or may not have a been a future at Iowa. I know he played DB at iowa, perhaps he wanted to get back on the offensive side of the ball.

I wonder if the Warts were in the mix with the family connections to the Wart.

Saw this in the DSM Rag the other day, and meant to post something on here, but didn't have a chance until now.  It looks like the Pioneer League champ will now receive an automatic birth in the 1AA (FCS) playoffs.  I was wondering how everyone felt this might indirectly effect the IIAC.  I know back in the good old days, even though I was only lightly recruited by Drake, one of the big reasons why I never seriously considered them as an option was because I wanted to play for something more than just a conference championship.  Will the allure of a chance to play with the big boys (and likely be one-and-done even if you do get there) be enough to cancel out the recruiting advantage that DIII and NAIA had over our FCS non scholly cousins?  How much is the IIAC recruiting against Drake these days?  Maybe I'm overplaying this, but I think back to my mindset as a 17 year old kid, and I feel as though I would be more inclined to seriously consider Drake football.  Wanted to get the perspective of the board.

Hard to imagine Drake going up against the likes of UNI.

To me that is like Cornell and Central, Coe, or Wartburg.  The game is even at 0-0 and there may be a good game even an OT game once in awhile but we know who will win that one.

Family connections to Wartburg and Iowa St, and so far he has been at Iowa and Central...sounds like a rebel ;D

I actually know the kid, one of the nicest kids you will ever meet.  Central is fortunate to have him.

McMartin released his starting line ups.  I like that, on offense, there is 850 pounds of Dutchmen between the tackles.

I do not think it is a good sign that a QB has not stood out enough to name a starter
