Just found this on Tanney.

Former Monmouth College All-American quarterback Alex Tanney hopes to see his first game action of the preseason when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Green Bay Packers in their final exhibition game tonight.

Alex, who signed a free agent contract with the Chiefs in June, has yet to take a snap under center in Kansas City's three preseason games. He is battling in camp against fellow QBs Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn and Ricky Stanzi.

Win or lose we still booze!!

I think Mr Tanney has an excellent chance of beating out Mr Stanzi for the #3 job. He has many more tools to work with as far as arm strength and accuracy.

He does have to deal with the heavy anti-D3 (or any level lower than FCS) sentiment.  As a UDFA, it is really difficult to shed that until stigma one makes a roster and it becomes irrelevant.  Stanzi is "automatically" considered superior based on the level of play he competed at in college.

Being from KC, I can confidently say Tanney has ZERO chance of beating out Stanzi for the #3 job. He's taken no snaps in a game. A guy asked about him on the radio recently and the media guys couldn't even remember his name. Not a good sign. He may very well be more accurate than Stanzi. As for arm strength, how do any of us know?!

Bottom line. IF he gets some snaps in game four of the preseason, he'll be fighting for the #4 spot and making the practice squad. That's not hating. I'd personally love to see him make the squad and get some developmental work in. But comments made by the coaches regarding QB never mention Tanney unless directly asked. At that point, Crennel says very vague things and seems like he barely knows a thing about Tanney.

With the start of fall camp and the excitement of reading through newly posted rosters the chatter on here goes up.  As the season approaches maybe we start getting a little nervous and wonder just how well our favorite team will do and the talk subsides a bit.

Or...maybe some of us (me, in this case) are out of the office on business and can't spend our afternoon like we usually do by hanging out on here instead of actually doing our jobs.  Because it's usually more fun to talk football than actually do our jobs ;D

DF2K4 and Heys usually have a decent eye for talent and they aren't too high on my Spartans...which has be chewing my nails in anticipation for this weekend...hoping that they are wrong.  Us long suffering UD fans want to see a bit of a run at the high end of the conference.

Like has been said, this weekend will start to answer a lot of the questions we have about the teams in the IIAC.  Next week will go even further towards telling us how the season may play out.  I can't wait.

I am not High or Low on the Spartans.  I have just said let's see what they have to replace an outstanding player.  If they can replace him then Hanus will be where he was last year and if they don't then Hanus' numbers may come back down to average.  I truly believe that this is the most wide open season for the race for the AQ spot in the IIAC.  If Central doesn't replace their graduation losses UD doesn't then Simpson could earn a shot at being in the top teir and challanging for the top spot.  It is wide open and this should bring more supporters out for the other teams.

I watched the game.  He entered the game for the Chiefs 1st 4th quarter possession. He mostly handed the ball off on running plays. He got sacked and hit hard a couple plays into his series from the blindside - Packers were offside, however. Then completed his first pass for about 40 yards when he stepped up nicely when some pressure was get close to him and the receiver made a very nice catch - but the Chiefs were flagged for holding. He did throw once more up the sidelines, but it wasn't close to being complete. After the series, he appeared to have a finger injury being looked at and Stanzi replaced him and played the remainder of the game. None of the Chiefs QB's did much in this game.

If sideline and huddle activity is any indicatio, Tanney seemed to have the the respect of his teamates. Granted, fist bumps don't mean roster spots, but Tanney seemed to be socially better off than Stanzi. The TV commentators did make a point of mentioning that Stanzi's big shot was in the St Louis game and he didn't perform to expectations there.

I think the difference here is that Stanzi's 'big shot' was to secure the #2 slot and outplay Quinn. He's never been in danger of not making the roster.

I'm hoping Tanney can make the practice squad. With some development and the coaches getting some more time to watch him play, hopefully he'd have a more legit shot next year. Or even get picked up by a team that is interested in letting him compete for the number 3 spot. We'll see soon I guess

Sitting here and Im extremely disappointed by the effort put forth by the posters only 2 days away from the kickoff.  ;D We need more action on this board....So what are going to be some of the biggest stories of the weekend?

I think its going to be interesting to see how 3 of top teams break in their new QBs and it will also be insteresting to see DBQs life w/o zweifel against a solid opponent. Seems to be the perfect test for them...A team that's decent enough that if they win it, it will be not be because of an "inferior" opponent...like Wartburg is playing. (way to test yourselves on that one  ;) )
One of the "new" Central qb's, likely to get some snaps tomorrow, is a senior.  Whoever is calling the signals, I expect McMartin will have them ready and they won't need much "breaking-in."

Land Shark is replacing Hub City on the menu for the Warthog clan tomorrow.

This could be an expensive trip.  Mrs. Warthog thinks all four grand warthogs need to get new Wartburg wardrobes at the bookstore compliments of their grandparents.

I had a couple of "craft" beers last night and I didn't account for the fact that they have a higher proof than the cheap stuff I am used to drinking.  They were very tastey but I was a little wobbly.

I feel your pain.  I know exactly what you are going through.  Mrs DF2004 does the same exact thing.  The only difference is when my son changes schools she goes and buys the appropriate gear for all.

Did you know there are 10,426,154 people in Bolivia and every one of them has won as many IIAC Football Championships as Loras?  ???
