The weekend is off to a good start.  The local high schoolers moved to 3-0 with a 49-7 win and the Cyclone Marching Band provided the pre-game and half-time shows.

If Iowa State and Wartburg can pull off victories tomorrow it will be a perfect weekend.  Little Warthog called to let us know that Little Little  Warthog is already excited about going to watch the Knights.  Three generations of Knight fans will be at Walston-Hoover cheering on Wartburg.

Not being favored at home kind of stinks. :'(

Especially when you're averaging 73 pts and giving up negative 5 yards on defense haha

I remember UD blowing out Rockford in its first game about 5 years ago and proceeded to finish 2-8. Rockford could probably beat macmurray. Games like that are only stat builders and give false expectations.

I saw Hazzben's question about a video feed from Wartburg, but didn't see any answers yet...does anyone know if video will be available Saturday?

All I've been able to find is a link to live stats, but this is through Bethel.

From what I can tell, it doesn't look like Wartburg has video. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Wartburg has video, but its pretty crappy.

Here is the link...http://www.go-knights.net/index.aspx?tab=football&path=football

Like notlongago said, not always the best.  Sometimes there is audio, sometimes not.  Sometimes the camera operator follows the plays, other time it sits still for a number of plays in a row.

Wow, the link is so bad that when you click on 'Watch' of 'Live Video' there is an error! Same with listen or stats. So much for having any clue about how the game goes  >:( >:(

10th times the charm! Link finally went to a website...video finally came up...a little chop, but better than nothing  :)

Central's up late against Auggie.

Looks like they are bouncing back nicely after a disappointing week 1. Credit the coaches and players for some mental fortitude there.

To fans of D-3 football everywhere.  I am honored to have been asked to spread the word regarding a new cancer fund that has been established to help Tom Pattison, UW-W sports broadcaster and founder of www.warhawkfootball.com    I and my family know, all to well, how a cancer diagnosis can be devastating to a families daily lives and finances. Please, consider making even the smallest donation to Tom.

The following is an open letter by Retired UW-W Coach Bob Berezowitz:

Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive established

Once a Warhawk, always a Warhawk are the often spoken words by Tom Pattison, longtime "voice" of the Warhawks. Over the many years of broadcasting UW-Whitewater football, basketball and baseball games on KOOL 106.5 (and prior to that (940 WFAW), Tom has "bled purple" during each one of his broadcasts.

Unfortunately, on May 28, 2012 Tom was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 colon cancer. He underwent colorectal cancer surgery in Fort Atkinson and in the process has developed astronomical hospital and medical bills.

Tom has already gone through the first phase of radiation treatment at the UW Cancer Clinic along with chemotherapy with phase two starting later this month.

Tom has given his heart and soul to Warhawk athletics over his 25 years of living here in southern Wisconsin. He served six years as the president of the UW-Whitewater Quarterback Club and still serves on the club's board of directors.

In 2003 Tom founded Warhawkfootball.com where Warhawk fans, players, former players and parents have been able to view up-to-date Warhawk football news and information 365 days a year. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have clicked onto the Website over the years.

The Website that has been funded entirely by Tom has been a popular "voice" for Warhawk football fans not only locally but around the world.

Well now Tom needs your assistance in his battle with cancer.

With the help and leadership of UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Paul Plinke and former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz and KOOL 106.5 Radio a team has been set up to lead a campaign to raise funds for Tom.

The "Team Tom Cancer Fund" has been established through Commercial Bank in Whitewater and is now accepting donations.

Donations may be sent to: Team Tom Cancer Fund, c/o Commercial Bank, 200 South Freemont St. Whitewater, WI 53190

The fund raising drive will also include Tom Pattison Day at Perkins Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012. More details will be announced shortly.

"I have known Tom for many years while coaching and now in retirement," Berezowitz said. "There is not another person who has given more of himself to help promote UW-Whitewater football. He is always writing articles for both past and present players that are published on his Website.

It is now our turn to say "thank you" for his efforts by considering making a donation to the to assist Tom in his time of need.

Go Warhawks,
Bob Berezowitz

Nice to see the Dutch come back and focus today.  Two weeks before the Dutch play again, glad they were able to get on the right track today.  I felt that Central seemed to be controlling the game today even though the score was close throughout.  They struggled to get in the endzone and should have scored more, but they did look like they had a bit of confidence and had put last week behind them.  Fantastic punting by Pella native Blaine Forsythe.  QBs need to work at being less obvious about what they are doing.  No deception at all.  Good to get a win today and the Cyclones won too.  Life is good.

So the WIAC and MIAC are not being kind to the IIAC teams this year.  Not sure I'm surprised, I think with UD recruiting a little more locally and the IIAC teams spreading the talent around more, it's harder to find that team that really can compete and win with these tough conferences.  But I give credit for scheduling challenging teams, you always learn more, sadly even in a loss.  I'm sure that Central and WB both learned more in the beatings they took than WB learned last week.  It doesn't feel as good though.   ;)

So it looks like Coe is the only team left in the IIAC with a shot at an early ranking.

AZD, saw jr. out there today, granted he was sprawled out on the field at the time, but he was out there.   :)  The woman sitting next to me said, "My, that 71 is a big player isn't he.  Must be why he is pushing the defense aside close to the goal line.   :)

Since the Knight's didn't play until 7pm last knight I decided to catch a rugby game in Waverly with former Knight Blake Suckow and former Knight NC wrestler John Helgerson playing for Bremer County.  It was John's first game and let me tell you he is going to be a beast when he gets some experience.

Sad to say but the rugby game was more interesting than the football game later in the day.

Not much can be taken from that game as the opponent was to be poilte not well prepared.

A couple of good things I saw from the WB coaching staff was 1. They didn't take the foot off the gas after getting up by a couple of TD's. 2. Danny Steifel is the receivers coach for WB now and he is working closely with the new QB.

What I saw and what I think will be succesful for the Knights are tempered right now but the defense looks legit.  The offense needs work as I thought our running game should have been better.  The new QB is an accurate thrower but I don't think he puts enough zip on the ball.  If they had been playing an IIAC opponent I believe lots of passes would have been batted away or picked as they seemed to float a little.

Coach Willis and crew will work on that this week and get the guys prepared for what will be a much tougher opponent next week in Bethel.

Go Knights!!

Today was a tough loss for the Knights to a quality team from Bethel.  But like I said after last weeks game, the defense is legit and the offense needs work.  The o-line could not open any holes and they could not protect the QB.

The offense put the defense in bad positions all day giving Bethel a short field and they took advantage a couple of times.

QB was picked off a couple of times and many passes were batted and many were dropped as well.

Hopefully they get some things fixed before Carthage and then they have the off week before conference starts.

May sound weird but I feel better about the Knights season after this game than I did after last weeks game.

Go Knights!!!
Win or lose we still booze!!

Oy vey, UD took one on the chin today.  Time to forget about this game and concentrate on the rest of the season.

Dubuque lost, Iowa lost, my wife got sunburned something fierce, this will not go down as my best day ever...but I was able to run into WillieU as he came over and chatted with my family for a bit at the end of the game.  Nice guy and he looks like he would still be able to put on the pads and play, unlike this former pep band member that has let food and drink expand my waistline beyond imagination.

On to next week and hopefully better days for this conference.

I would hardly call the game today a beating. I saw two evenly matched teams-breaks and short field went the wrong way

I'm feeling as good as I can about the Knights after a 21-0 loss.  Turnovers and untimely penalties can make a competitive game look very lopsided.  Yes, Wartburg was beaten by a better team today.  If however the football gods smile down on the Knights, they make the playoffs, and the process play Bethel again I wouldn't count out the Knights chances.  The IIAC better be ready, this isn't a terrible Wartburg team.
