Didn't mean we would contend but think we will be in more games this year. Playing an average miac team is like playing a top iiac team this yr.  and billy penn is just hard to compare. Totally different style and athletes. Still think top 4 are set but think we will hang in there and maybe even beat one of them.

Luther is an odd team to figure out.  For years now, the Norse are a competitive team that gives even the toughest opponent on their schedule a hard time.  They just never seem to get a win out of those games.  Luther seems to always have a 5-5 season in them where they always beat the teams they should and always lose to the teams that are expected to beat them.  Luther might have a 2-8 season in them this year and I don't think I would consider them a bad team.

I wouldn't regard St. Olaf as an average MIAC team, fwiw. They've got the top QB and WR tandem in the league and are generally a well coached team. They'll be in the mix this year and finished tied for second last year. They need to show they can get over the hump and beat 'the team' in a given year, but they usually finish somewhere from 2-4 in the last 7-8 years. So they aren't elite, but not average either. Maybe that means above average is the best term.

And you can't read too much into their Luther game. These two teams always play each other close and it always seems like a weird game.

Well if you told me an IIAC school was doing that, guess which one, I would have instantly said wartburg.

So in the last 10 years you have the party boys at Wartburg with 5 conference titles and the choir boys at Central with 5 conference titles...hmm

5 Words or Less

Perhaps the Warts know something  8-)

And when we're gone from here
Well, our friends will be
Drinking all the beer

Well, it is very Martin Luther esq:

QuoteWe Old folks have to find our cushions and pillows in our tankards, strong beer is the milk of the old.

... Besides, the Word is the principal part of baptism. If in an emergency there's no water at hand, it doesn't matter whether water or beer is used.

Whenever the devil harasses you, seek the company of men or drink more, or joke and talk nonsense, or do some other merry thing. Sometimes we must drink more, sport, recreate ourselves, and even sin a little to spite the devil, so that we leave him no place for troubling our consciences with trifles. We are conquered if we try too conscientiously not to sin at all. So when the devil says to you: do not drink, answer him: I will drink, and right freely, just because you tell me not to.

(And my personal favorite) Almost every night when I wake up the devil is there and wants to dispute with me. I have come to this conclusion: When the argument that the Christian is without the law and above the law doesn't help, I instantly chase him away with a fart.

Anyone on here have any information on Carthage?  I see they are receiving top 25 votes and are 1-0 after playing Albion  Adrian College.  I don't think Wartburg has any history with the Carthage program but I could be wrong.

I get the Kenosha paper, and though I don't follow Carthage that closely, I'll let you know what I know. They're picked to be in the middle, or slightly lower than that in the CCIW. As best I can tell, their expectations weren't yoo high based on what I read the coach say, as quoted. They started out pretty good last year and sort of tailed off. Not much to go on, but I didn't want to leave you hanging.

Here are a few tidbits:

Ranked #100 by d3football.com's Kickoff coming into the season.

According to Kickoff, they have 4 offensive and 6 defensive starters returning from last year's 5-5 team.

They beat Adrian on September 1 20-17 despite being out-gained 404-287.

One of their strengths appears to be their defensive line.  They return 4 starters on the D-line from last year and Coach Tim Rucks said after their first game he believes they have the best defensive lines in the CCIW.  That's saying a lot with NCC in their conference.

I'm pretty surprised Carthage would get Top 25 votes.  I don't think they are particularly near the Top 25 at this point.  I expect the Knights to do just fine Saturday.

I think this helps explain:

"It is better to think of church in the ale-house than to think of the ale-house in church."
― Martin Luther

"Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!"

I guess it all depends on where you score with your balls.

Ha...I've always liked this quote.  I guess it depends on when the whiskey was consumed.  I've always found the Central stereotype funny too, as it doesn't really hold water for the most part.  I know the Dutch like to be totally focused on football during the season, but back in the day we might have made up for things after football was in the books for the year  8-)  Don't know what the company line is nowadays though.  Either way, good luck to the Dutch this weekend.
