Why is Loras so bad at football? Their coach must be really bad. Great campus. Great school. Connection to Chicago catholic schools. I bet all Iiac coaches pray they don't get a decent coach. It's unthinkable to not be able to win at that school.

Could the same be said for Luther?  Great campus, great school, connection to MN/WI/IA Scandivanian Lutherans...add in highest endowment in the conference.  I bet all IIAC coaches pray they don't get a decent coach.  It's unthinkable to not be able to win at that school.

You see...anyone can troll if they feel like it :P

If you go back a decade or so, you could have argued that Dubuque, Upper Iowa, and William Penn were at a disadvantage because they each had a campus that was lacking compared to the rest of the conference.  All 3 of those schools have transformed over the past decade into schools with a campus as nice as any school in the IIAC.  You may have been able to argue those 3 schools lacked a bit academically compared to the rest of the conference.  You wouldn't be able to do so now.  Today, I don't think there is much difference academically or aesthetically between any of the schools still in the conference.

What does that all mean?  I don't know, I'm only up at this hour because 2 cats were fighting outside my house and I went out to yell at them to knock it off.  Now I'm back to bed and hope this kinda sorta makes sense when I look at this again in a few hours  ::)

When does the arms race begin?  Luther has an older but nice facilities.  Coe has older facilities but not nice.  Do they try to build a Taj Mahal like Wartburg to keep up?

If anyone builds a new facility or remodel an old one they need to go to Wartburg's and Dubuque's arenas used for Basketball, wrestling and Volleyball.  They are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in to watch an athletic event.  Simpson needs a new HVAC system for their arena.  Or is the heat turned up on purpose to make the visiting team and fans suffer.  After the first time viewing a game I just wore a tee shirt (and pants, I'm not leaving my self open on that one).

If Coe builds a new facility I wish they would keep Eby.  Other than poor concessions and restrooms It is really a nice venue to view a game or match.

Coe's renovation of Eby has made it a very accessible and comfortable.

OMG it must be a slow football weekend if I'm discussing this.  Signing off the doctor says I need to take my medication now and not watch the Hawks again because it is only going to make me feel worse.

At least Dubuque had the big benefactor at hand and didn't make the community of Waverly pay the bill.

What a dreadful Saturday of Football,  Iowa wets itself under the pressure of playing Michigan, oops that was an adjective -Michigan team, shouldn't have been that stressful.  UNI loses.  And Central, wow, lots of shoulda-woulda-coulda but no finish.  I liked the teams that lost the statistical battles but won the games better.  I did find some good news in all this gloom though:  Chris Norton Walks!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_f_KtRoHNs&feature=youtube_gdata_player  Way to go Chris, we're all cheering for you!

That is great to be able to watch Chris Norton progress in his reabilitation.  He is a hard working young man.

As for Iowa and UNI letting games slip away late...I can't even go there...still shaking my head at that.

Iowa Conference arms race, let's see...

Buena Vista is in the process renovating their football stadium with new artificial surface, track, scoreboard, concessions/restrooms, lights, just needs to finish with visitor side seating...nothing new for basketball I believe

Central installed a new track and artificial surface to their football field 5-8 year ago, need to play catch up with the rest of their football facility...no idea about basketball

Coe has a very nice tennis facility...recently installed artificial turf and visitor side seating for football, could use some more seating/concessions/bathrooms...basketball plays in an old barn (which I like) needs better concessions.

Dubuque has 4 year old football stadium w/indoor track facility...renovated the Stoltz Center for basketball 4 years ago, a bit cramped for tall people like bird dog ;)

Loras renovated the Rock Bowl within the past decade with a new track, artificial surface, press box, and concessions...built the AWC for Basketball

Luther is building a new swimming facility...nothing new for football and basketball that I know of

Simpson just put in a new artificial surface, concessions/bathroom facilities for football, has plans for additional football renovations...nothing new for basketball that I am aware of other than sauna conditions leave bird dog perfoming partial strip tease

Wartburg complete renovation of their football facility 10-12 years ago leaves us today with a pink track and an artificial surface that is showing some age...the W is a class facility among the best you will see at the D3 level...and some levels above D3.

Not sure of the time frame, but there are fundraising efforts to replace both the track & football surface.

Jeopardize the financial stability of the college?  They raised $ 90+ million before embarking on their building program, and their financial stability is not at risk.  I don't know where people come up with this kind of crap, but it's not helpful to anybody.

Wartburg raised $90 million in the last 10 years under Ohle, but not all that money was earmarked for building projects.  Wartburg also spent $110 million on building projects during that time with much of it financed with the issuing of bonds. There were articles in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier and other newspapers regarding this as the Wartburg bond rating was downgraded to a near junk rating.

While it might be a bit of a stretch to say Wartburgs finantial stability was at risk, (I'm sure the alumni base would have rallied and raised additional funds) it's certainly something that could be debated on here.  From articles in the local paper it was said that Wartburg needed to keep record enrollment and not take on any new debt over the next 5-10 years while raising their endowment to raise their bond rating.  Something that could be said for many families in our country at the same time.  Wartburg racked up a lot of debt and built themselves a great looking campus, much of it with borrowed money.  If they can keep their heads down and knock some debt off over the next decade they will be fine.  While Wartburg is probably fine, they basically can't borrow any more money.  At least that is what I remember reading in the papers and from conversations on here back around 2009 or so.

Well Dutch the writings on the wall. You are most likely dogs in 4 of the remaining games and it doesn't take a genius to know 2+4=6 losses. 6 losses would mark the first time in 50+ years central hasn't had a winning/.500 record. Teams with much less talent have helped keep that streak alive....time to sack up, clean up, and win some games.

I think the Dutch will take care of business in the games they should, and go 2-2 in their toss-up games.  5-2 conference mark wouldn't look bad...6-4 overall record wouldn't be what the Dutch faithfull are accustomed to, though the 50+ years of .500 ball or better will stay intact to keep them somewhat happy over the winter.

I'll be taking a half day at the office on Friday to mow my lawn that afternoon...so expect a Homecoming loss for Central this coming weekend ;)
