Doolittle sorry I wasnt ther to meet you in person.  I had the pleasure of watching son's team go down to IW in OT.

Question for you.  My comment about UD's QB was did his receivers make him better or was he that good.  Not seeing the game only seeing stats is this a fair assessment or were the picks deflected or missed catches by the receivers or bad throws?  Just wondered your take on things as I know you are a pretty straight shooter and don't always see things through the blue glasses.

Not directed at me but it's a free country right? Haha. IMHO he is that good and was made better by stellar WRs. 4 picks or not 400+ yards is still 400+ yards and it takes a special QB to throw for those numbers. From my vantage point the Dutch made good plays on at least two balls. Another one or two may have sailed on him. I don't recall any of them being dropped or deflected but I cant vividly remember all 4 (getting old eyes)

The last int, which was the pick six, was deflected...I remember 1 really good break on the ball for another int...the other 2 i'm a little fuzzy, like notlongago i'm getting old eyes.  They might have been a combo of a good break on the ball and the QB being confident he could get the ball in there and trusted his receivers.

Hanus isn't a Brett Favre gunslinger, he puts the ball where it needs to be and to the open receiver.  Usually, if there isn't an open receiver he throws the ball away, puts the ball where only his receiver could get it, or he tucks and runs.  I don't get to see all the QB's out there, so I'm probably not the best judge, but I think Hanus is pretty rare for this level.  It also helps he has a coach that isn't afraid to call pass plays and has had receivers that can catch the ball.  You don't always get that combination in D3.

Guilty as charged ;D  But, strike that bolded part out and the rest does apply.  We know about Hanus because he plays in a system that allows him to throw the ball...he also has receivers that can haul in his pass attempts.  At this level you don't always get all that at the same time.  Which is fortunate for Mr Hanus...and Mr Hansen before him...probably Mr Fry next year as well ;)

My view from afar on the Wartburg game is a quote from football kid: "Never trust a kicker. If you put yourself in the position of having to kick to win a game, they will break your heart."
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

What a gutsy win by the Dutch. Somewhat sloppy on both teams so I guess that evened out. Some boneheaded plays on both sides as well (Dbq returner stepping out at the 2). It was awesome to see a completely injury riddled defense step up with 4 takeaways ....very impressive game by guys that had to step up last minute. How the Dutch overcame those defensive injuries vs a team that was supposed to have to some real fire power was great! And they hit like. Mac truck today as well....love that brand of football even if it does occasionally come at the cost of a bogus penalty.

If you are talking about the call against the Central defender who went head to head with the UD receiver down by the north end zone, I thought it was the right call...and I'm a Central fan.  If you are going to hit the guy who everyone is looking at and hit him that hard, you should at least try not to hit his head.  There were a couple of other times the zebras looked a little confused but I think they got that one right.

Moving on, in the seven years I have been posting on here, I have pretty much burned through my Simpson material.  I am still looking for an obscure enough joke book to plagerize.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. IMHO they are D3 FOOTBALL players...not NFL QBs

Great weekend in the IIAC – with all the parity this year the schedule should work out so that most Saturday's at least two games will involve head-to-head games that will have a direct impact on the conference race – should be fun!!

My quick analysis of the weekend:

Central/Dubuque – I saw this game live - Central was fortunate to win in a weird game – I'm using my new word – Dubuque significantly "out-stat-ed" the Dutch but found a way to lose.  I think Dubuque has the talent to go undefeated the rest of the season – not saying they will but they are good – a very diversified offense with an excellent QB – and I would agree a guy like Hanus does not come along every year – I highly doubt he will have another game with four INT's – may not have four more the rest of the year

Simpson/Wartburg – this game surprised me – I know Simpson did not "sneak up" on Wartburg this year – Not surprisingly Wartburg offense was much more balanced but the Knights obviously had some kicking woes – another game where the stats probably favor the visitors but the home team gets the win - Simpson is now officially a title contender in the IIAC

Coe/BV – the results of this are not surprising to anyone – I believe Coe is very good and will be in the hunt for the IIAC Championship - we will find out how good in a couple of Saturday's – looking forward to that game as it will have a big impact on the conference race - (I am assuming Dubuque takes care of Luther and Coe handles Loras)

as I said each weekend will be fun – no shortage of good games to check out!

This is cheap but I can't resist – with Wartburg, Coe and Dubuque having this Saturday "off" I think I will make the trip to Pella again (that wasn't nice but maybe this will stir up some conversation)

Congrats to Wyatt Hanus, Ross Doehrmann, Mark Cronin and Garrett McCrane – Semifinalist for NFF's William F. Campbell Trophy

PS – I would have to agree with notlongago with the penalty call – I like hard hitting football as long as it's clean and that was a clean hit

Great Ceaser's Ghost! Just because you have spell check doesn't make it right! A parody (also called pastiche, spoof, send-up or lampoon), in current use, is an imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialise an original work.

Parity is used to describe the equalness of the members of a group.

I didn't even go to college and I know the difference. ;)

Haha if you follow the Dutch closely you'll see they frequently win games when being "out-stat-ed"...its kind of their M.O.....guess you could call em a weird team though and no one could really argue in that sense

Duhawkin

Is Coe that good, or is BV just that bad?

footballdaddy

I hate to say it, but BV could be that bad. They present problems for a lot of teams beacuse they are frequently out of position which puts them in position to make plays because they aren't where they should be.

Yes I can. Two live in a barn and one lives in a mirror.
