I get down in the Coe neighborhood quite often for work and I have never been a victim of violence (attacked with a garden tool) but for those of you that have met me...I'm a large and intimidating figure and it would take a lot of guts to want to give me a hard time ;)
If you're ever around during the lunch hour, give me a call. As far as safety goes, they must be saying the right things to these recruits because they keep bringing in players (in high volumes).

Or conveniently leaving it out.   ;D
You're dead on with that one. No need to advertise the negatives.

But they can't hide that nasty smell in CR  ;)

I had lunch with the President of Coe (and 75 of his closest friends) the day after the attack with a garden tool.  He told me that that person was known to the C.R. Police as a problem and that mental illness and refusal to take medication was behind the attack.  From what I was told size would have made no difference to this person.

My daughter went to Coe and the 1st Ave. area around Coe was a big concern for me.  I was impressed with Coe's security and my daughter said she never felt unsafe in the area.
Coe's security makes a point of being available.  A student pulls into a parking lot and wants an escort the student calls they come.   Working late in a lab and the student calls they come.  I don't think my daughter ever called them but you know that security is on campus and available.

You can say this is because of the area but I would like security like this in Luther, Simpson and Central which were the other schools my daughter visited.  I never asked at those schools but should have (my guess is they all have security like Coe's).

Central has had security like that for decades and we are in what is considered to be a very safe town.  But even in a safe town security is necessary.  Students can call from the parking lots or library for an escort back to their residence hall.  I don't know if it is still this way, but last I knew, Central sent two escorts, so a student wasn't one on one with an escort and they liked to hire some female escorts so that female students who are generally the ones using the service would have a female and male escort.  Unfortunately, when there are problems, and I think this is a fairly universal truth for most college campuses, it is less often with a student walking alone than with students who over indulged in adult beverages and lowered their inhibitions/defenses.

From listening to the UD coaches show, Dubuque opens with UW-LaCrosse next season.  We supposedly have about a 10 year contract with UW-Platteville to continue for the "Battle of the Bridge" trophy.  No idea if the Spartans will still play UW- Stevens Point next year in week 3.

I'm all for strengthening the non-con schedule, but not sure I want 3 WIAC schools.  Why not spread the non-con around a bit to our major recruiting areas?  1 against a WIAC school, one from Illinois (preferably the CCIW like Auggie), and maybe an Iowa school (which would limit you to Iowa Wesleyan/Grinnell or an NAIA school)...so ok, maybe a Minnesota school from the MIAC(though that isn't a recruiting priority for UD, so maybe not.  Ok, just keep scheduling the WIAC ;D

Well with a loaded schedule like that it will be a tough test indeed.  I do not eny UD at all.

Well, that's one way to strengthen the competition and get prepared for playoffs.  If you survive...

Final thought for rivalry week:

Stay healthy everyone!

Did the Central team roll over and die?   They have turned the ball over twice giving BV the ball in the red zone twice and trail 17-0 about halfway through the 1st.    As if that isn't bad enough, it looks like BV is playing a bunch of ghosts with the all white uniforms, which I hate,

Klompen

So Central finally gets a nice drive going and fumbles from the one yard line, then gives up a TD pass of 85 yds.  They could not have scripted a worse start if they had tried.  Now down 23-0, this is the gut check that may decide if Central puts up a fight for the rest of the year or gives up and does have the first losing season in 50 or so years.  And, yes, this time I did say it.  This should be a win for the Dutch, but they are in a major hole in only one quarter down.

Luther 10, Wartburg 10 - Halftime

Luther was up 10-0 after the 1st Quarter.  Luther outgaining Wartburg 231-134.

Klompen

Central showing some fight and have moved to 23-13 from 23-0.  It is halftime.  Nice job by Luther and BV, hope the BV success, aided by Centrl turnovers has come to an end.
