Before we make too much of Cornell's football rise from the ashes (an obvious reference to Ash Park), lets look at these three conference wins they've put together.

In the past five seasons Knox, Beloit, and Lawrence have combined for a sparkling 31-109 record.  Taking out the games they've played against one another (15-15) they are breezing along at a 16-94 pace.  Combined they are winning 14.5% of the games they play when not going against one another

The three schools have won four non-conference games during this period.  The wins have come against Eureka, Minnesota Morris, and MacMurray, not exactly football powers.

+K for the reference but no one is saying they have "arrived" or they are a turned around program because they have 3 wins. They are starting to rise from the ashes though!  :D In all seriousness I know they have a ways to go yet as a program but as a loyal Cornell fan I am sure excited about the Coaching staff that is there and what they are starting to do with the program.

Just to clarify I wasn't saying anything about Cornell's improvement or lack of it. My only point was that I find it hard to believe they're using the "we're moving to an easier conference" recruiting line to lure athletic talent into their program.

If I'm going to be serious then I better get it right

I was picking up what you were throwing down. Their numbers are up and someone thinks it's because they were telling kids hey we went to an easier conference so you should come here does not make any sense and it is not one Coach B would use! They are getting more kids and kids that are more athletic because they are good recruiters! Period. However, people will believe what they want to believe.

Excuse me for saying this, but in reference to Cornell leaving and the relative parity in the IIAC: Is it because everyone lost what was a pretty sure win when the played Cornell? What would everyone's record be at the end of the year if you took away a non-conference loss and added a conference win?

Not trying to dis anyone, but the past records speak for themselves. Just asking the question.

This got me to thinking about costs and tuition.  This is what I found for each IIAC member school for 2012-13 tuition on their website (Includes: Room, Board & Tuition.) A great education no matter which you choose I believe.

Luther - $42,170.00
Coe - $41,920.00
Wartburg - $41,055.00
Central - $39,134.00
Simpson - $37,492.00
BV - $36,494.00
Loras - $35,815.00
UD - $35,815.00

Well said.  I am a big fan of all the Iowa Conference schools.  We should be proud of the way they have developed.

And speaking of Iowa Conference schools.  I will once again be travelling to Waverly with my youngest daughter for the UD/Wartburg game.  Our oldest will be at a sleep over and my wife is taking our son to see his cousins in Des Moines.  Will any of you be at the parents tailgate?  And if so, will we be welcomed in again...if I bring some food and malted barley liquid goodness???

DLD, I am currently planning on being at the tailgate this weekend and we welcome everyone so yes please stop by.
Win or lose we still booze!!

Wartmobile is ready to roll up to Waverly for Wartburg/Dubuque on Saturday.

I even packed my UD "TEAM" hat.  In spite of some strange looks, wearing the royal blue UD lid with my Wartburg gear seemed to bring good luck to the Knights last season.  There is no sense changing a good thing.

Trying to talk the wife into going up for the game also. She likes browsing all the booths there for homecoming so I might actually get there.

Try this..."I'm the man, and therefore the boss of this house, and I say we're going to the Wartburg game this weekend."

Then duck for cover as she will probably be very angry with you at that point ;)

I'm just hoping for good weather, that my daughter and I can find cotton candy once again, and that the final score can be a bit closer than it was on our last trip to Waverly!!!  I know we'll have a good time at the tailgate, pre and post game.

Um, yeah. You will know me at the tailgate by the frying pan shaped divot in my skull.

I gotta ask, what did you guys do to your wives that you need to ASK permission to do something like a 10 year old boy?

You are obviously a newlywed or single person.  If you ask a question like that you have no idea about being married a long time.   :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

It's too early for me to read if you are putting us on or serious.

footballdaddy started with 'trying to talk my wife into going also' which isn't asking permission.

I JOKED that he should say he is the boss...which for me, and I believe others (including you, if you have a relationship of mutual respect) would result in our wives being upset we would say we are the boss, when in fact we are in this together.

Most people I know enjoy spending time with their spouses, which would mean we would discuss what the options were for the weekend, and then make a decision from there.  Maybe we do something she came up with, maybe we do something I came up with, or maybe we end up doing something seperately (not likely).  Then you also factor your children and their schedules in as well.

While my wife and I don't need to ask permission, we most certainly talk about what WE want to do this weekend, we actually enjoy being with each other.  Though, as it turns out, this weekend she is taking our son to her brothers place so he can play with his cousins while I will take our daughter to Waverly for the football game.

One of the great things about D3 is we often become friends with the other fanbases and end up tailgating with each other.  Something you don't often see at the higher levels.

Purple Heys

My $0.02:  The level of Cornell's competition is the biggest factor for their positive progress...It's hard to call it success when you consider the level of competition week in/week out this year in the MWC compared to the IIAC.  Losing to Coe whether it is 34-14, or 77-7 is still losing and to me does not represent anything that can be termed as improvement sustained just yet.  In 2007 Cornell lost to Coe 17-6 and looked forward to the following year's rematch in 2008.  After scoring first they proceeded to get belted 35-14.  One year does not count.

Are the Rams moving in the right direction?  Given what they do and how they do it...I believe so inasmuch as doing it in the MWC puts them in a more equitable position relative to their league opponents.  And winning creates a more positive environment, which can lead to continued positive momentum which I then would call success.

But realistically, who am I to judge.  It's D3.  Nobody plays for championships except UW-W and Mount.  Everybody else tries their best and eventually gets shoved to the sideline.  D3, in general, is not the fast track to the pros, its for kids who want to keep playing as long as they can.  (Although some do go further...)

So what if the Rams opted to play games against teams they have a better chance of beating...winning is always more fun.

You can't leave me....all the plants will die.
