DDog, we enjoyed being able to spend time with you again. That game wasn't any easier on the Knight faithful. Just glad we got out alive from that one.

If your daughter was any cuter there would have to be some kind of warning label on her. She is such a well behaved young lady. I wish you could have found some cotton candy to make her day. Best of luck to you and your family.

Thanks for the sweet words about our daughter.  Wish I could have joined you, they had a great time!! :)

How about them Kohawks?!  ;D

I was at the game on Saturday. Not much to say, other than I was very impressed with Coe.  Not taking anything away from Coe's performance, but it was apparent that Simpson is not quite there yet.  Although, they are certainly moving in the right direction from previous years.

Apparently two of the three finalist for the UWW job don't care much for one another.   >:(
That's OK, I like both of them  ;D
They are both strong willed, dedicated, and successful coaches.  8-)
I can tell you, they have both been very kind to me.   :)
My advice is for us fans to forget it.  It is between them.   :-X

My attire at Saturday's Wartburg/Dubuque game confused some of the people sitting in my section of Walston-Hoover Stadium.  The royal blue University of Dubuque cap perched on top of a completely orange & black clad torso had some people scratching their heads.  I explained I was an honorary UD fan based on my attendance at four of there games during the 2011 season.  I wore the cap at the Spartan/Knight game last season and the Knights came out with a victory that was contested all the way done to the final second. I decided this must be a lucky combination so I wore it again this year.  It brought the same results this past Saturday.   After the game was over I had people telling me to never get rid of the UD "TEAM" hat.  The cap is going into safe keeping and will be brought out again next year for the Wartburg/Dubuque game.

Central brings their A game for all but the last play of the 1st qtr, leading 21-0, then switches to BV game fumbling the ball deep in Norse territory and very early in the 2nd, Luther takes is in.  21-7.  Then Dutch O goes backwards on nezt series.  Defense holds, but now Dutch starting deep in Norse territory at 4 yd line.  Please don't turn it over!

A game?  Sure it wasn't C game vs an F team.

You are so welcome! Of course we really meant we bribed your daughter with sweets so your husband could get on the stripper bus. ;)

I think this might grow into a great rivalry, these coaches are cut from the same cloth.  I am not saying that Willis will not shake Coach Z's hand if he ever beats Wartburg  ;D but both hate to lose.

DLD it was great having you and your daughter at our tailgate Saturday.  Add all the sugar in the world and you couldn't make her any sweeter than she already is.  Be careful because they grow up way too fast.  :-[
Ditto on both statements!! I always enjoy tailgating/meeting fans from the opposing school; especially D3 posters. It is fun attaching a face with the name/comments. If you get to a game in Dubuque, or host them take the opportunity to meet DLD. He truly is what D3 is all about!

On to this week - big game in CR for the Knights. The Hacks will definitely pose some problems for the Good guys, but I am confident Ricky will have them ready to play! After the Warts take care of business, we can route for our second favorite team Sat, UD as they are @ home with a late start against the Storm.

Hopefully things go the way as planned Sat & the IIAC is back where it should be with the Knights in the driver seat. ;D

A game may have been too generous, but F game was the week before.  After seeing the Dutch outscored as they have been in the 1st qtr, 21-0 was as much of an A game as these players have.  I will be glad to up it to an A+ game if they can outscore their last 2 opponents in the first - fourth qtrs.  They will hopefully build on that game to get some confidence for the last two games.

Old Dutch, I could not agree more with your concerns about the Dutch and their lack of urgency or the fact that they don't bounce back and take revenge on whoever is unlucky enough to play them after a loss.  Back in the day, you would not want to be the next team to play the Dutch as they made a point of their play in every game and so much more after a loss.  I have always wished the Dutch would be more fired up as they come out to the field.  Central of old was not the rowdy, loud, jumping with excitement team, but you at least always saw unquestionable determination and concentration on the job at hand.  Now they just lollygag out of the locker room like they are going for a walk and nothing more.

Get some fire in your gut Dutch and show us you know what it means to strap on the red and white.

I'll say what I have said before; this is a different generation – good or bad
If you want these young men to get fired up the "Old Central" crowd needs to step up as well
Put some money into upgraded facilities -  pep bands, no music, no video board, and a crowd that sits all game and doesn't understand (or just doesn't care) when it's a key 3rd down play doesn't cut it
I am sooooo tired of back in the day – well it's 2012 and time to move on – things have changed and Central has not kept up – I visited Central in the 80's and this was the best campus in the IIAC and facilities were not that much different from my visit to UNI (not including the Dome)  I was back this year and except for turf I really did not see many upgrades
I love old school and I loved coach Schipper - I wish things would not have changed but they have, so  move forward or get left behind – the 70's and 80's are gone
Now I'm done listening to my AC/DC Back in Black 8 track and going to bed!!

PS – from what I hear these losses are killing these kids – especially the seniors – they understand the Central tradition and what is at stake

If any of you find yourself in Dubuque on Nov. 8th and like free things, Rulon Gardner will be speaking at UD...

http://www.thonline.com/sports/local_sports/article_4273f154-4748-5f42-80c3-a39e7680ff36.html

From the article...

Olympic gold and bronze medalist in Greco-Roman Wrestling Rulon Gardner will speak at the University of Dubuque on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in McCormick Gymnasium.

The event is free and open to the public. Olympian Gardner defeated three-time Gold Medalist Alexander Karelin of Russia in overtime at the 2000 Sydney Games to capture a gold medal. Karelin had not lost in international competition in 13 years and had not been scored upon in 10 years.

Gardner is author of the 2005 motivational autobiography Never Stop Pushing: My Life from a Wyoming Farm to the Olympic Medals Stand. The book chronicles his journey from an impoverished upbringing as one of nine children in a close-knit Mormon farming family to an Olympic champion. Gardner further solidified his status as a truly inspirational individual by reaching his competitive training weight as a contestant on season 11 of NBC's The Biggest Loser.

Offering valuable insights into the actual cost of peak performance, he guides audiences down his path to Olympic gold -- and ultimately into American legend. In a presentation which highlights his experiences on the mat, Gardner teaches how persistence leads to success.

I'm not quite ready to cross off the Dutch.  It isn't like they have been steamrollered in their losses.  They still have Wartburg and Coe on the horizon.  This could still be a respectable year in Pella if they finish strong.

Now, having said that, I hope it doesn't happen quite that way.  I'd vote for a loss to the Knights and a victories over the Duhawks & Kohawks.  ;)

I'm agreeing with Wartknight.  The weekend would be just about perfect if there would be some way both the Spartans and Knights could pull off victories on Saturday. I just think the Kohawks at home will be a tough nut to crack for the Knights.  Although on my last trip to Coe, the team I was cheering for (UD Spartans) pulled off a great win and claimed the IIAC championship trophy.  Perhaps I'll bing out the UD hat one more time this year and see if it brings me luck again at Coe. A question to ponder - Can a lucky hat work for two different teams against the same opponent at the same stadium two years in a row?

I'm trying to convince Mrs. Warthog that we could get to both Cedar Rapids and Dubuque on Saturday.  This would mean missing the Hacienda in Cedar Rapids for dinner, but a late night feast at Brietbachs after two victories might be a good thing.  Can any D3 traffic experts tell me the estimated time it would take to get from Coe to UD?

Cornell to UD took us just under an hour.  Coe would be 1:10 - 1:15 i would guess???

I would save you a place at our tailgate, but I think we might be taking this week off.  Mrs Doolittle has some halloween parties she wants to make and the 4pm kickoff in Dubuque would make that difficult.

As for Breitbachs, here is a Des Moines Register article on the place...
