Uh oh, notlongago with a reply in 3...2...1...

Nope, at a certain point logic, reason, and intellect go out the window and Willie U has officially crossed that threshold.

Willie won't be eating crow...he'll be eating the deer he shot last week ;)

UD can't lose this weekend.  I'm dragging my wife to yet another football game where there is the possibility of rain.  She will kill me if she sits through rain AND a loss.  The Spartans won't do that to me ;D

If UD loses I will be searching the obituaries and watching the TV news to see if there is a murder of a UD alum.   :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

There must be some sort in inter-planetary realignment going on.  For the second time in less than a month Willie U and Warthog are in complete agreement.  ???

So Pella is the middle of nowhere and Dubuque and Waverly are what, bustling metropolises?  When I was in Dubuque I didn't see anything but hills that I couldn't find in Pella.  And Waverly doesn't even have that going for it.  Pella is 50 miles from Des Moines.  Dubuque and Waverly are 50 miles from what?  I've never been to Coe but I don't think anyone else in the IIAC has much to say about how near of far anyone else is to nowhere.

And while we're talking about it, what are these run down facilities I keep hearing about?  The grandstands are old but I don't see where they are in poor repair.  The half time lines for the bathrooms are a problem.  I would like to see all of Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium be bigger, but until they regularly fill what they have, it doesn't make much sense to me to expand.  The fact that there is visitors' seating that doesn't require rock climbing skills puts Central ahead of some IIAC schools including one in that vast sophisticated urban center of Dubuque.  I have no facts on recruiting but I won't argue that it hasn't become much more competitive in the last several years.  That is a good thing.  It was kind of dull when Central only used to have one or two games they had a slim chance of losing before they got to the play-offs.  I never get closer to the program than twenty rows up in the grandstand at homecoming.  But, I'm pretty sure that the people running it are doing what they can to make it better in the future and not content to rest on Central's rich history.

Not my conversation but you have heard of Waterloo / Cedar Falls right?  ???

Personally, growing up in NE Iowa I prefer the middle of nowhere and think Pella has a great location and it has nothing to do with its proximity to Des Moines.

As has been said, every team has their woulda coulda shoulda arguments.  My only point, there is a decent chance Dubuque will end in a 5 way tie for 2nd place in the the conference.  That's not exactly a "down" year.  If Dubuque can get a win at home over BVU and Coe beats Central, it's likely Wartburg and Simpson will get wins over Loras and Luther.  That would make a 5 way tie for 2nd place with each of the 5 teams losing to Coe and each of the 5 teams going 2-2 against each other.  Dubuque with a 3 point loss in Double OT to Coe (the only team to give Coe a scare)  a 7 point loss at Central and a 3 point loss at Wartburg with 4th quarter leads in all 3 games stacks up well against any other teams resume in the conference.  Not conference championship material, but I also wouldn't say Dubuque had a down year either.

I would also like to add that UD getting a 45-0 win over Loras felt very very good ;)
Given the number of years I have watched IIAC football, this was a very good season for UD.  Heck, it doesn't take too many wins to make a good season for UD over the period I have watched.  My only comment was that they were down compared to last year, but still a good UD season.  And I can imagine how great it was to beat Loras today.  Other teams have rivalries, but the rest of us have to travel to ours every other year.  In town rivalries are much more spirited and tend to mean a lot more.  Congrats to UD for their win today.

Your mentality is living in the past. You will never see those teams again. Like I was trying to point out, the Spartans were the only team to give Coe a game and 1 first down at the end and coe doesn't make it to overtime to sneak out the win. Likewise, a fluke at central and again, 1 first down at wartburg and game was over. I realize losses are losses but the spartans were much closer to competing for the conference with coe then central in my opinion. Now, if UD losses to BV, I'll eat those words.

Willie U

You seem to see everything in blue shades, so let me bring you back to reality. Dbq was a bad/average team the past decade. You had one anomaly year where you needed a once in a lifetime player, D3 heisman player to barely win the conference then subsequently embarrass the conference in the first round.

You are back to average again this year without him. Once is a fluke, 3-4 times is a patern that means you're average.

Stop belittling the other teams that beat Dbq because they made more plays when they needed to. What is so hard to comprehend about a conference that will likely have a 5-way tie for second that EVERY TEAM can point to plays that if they would've done something different, they may be leading the conference race. There is nothing that Dbq has or has done this year that would make any objective person think they are superior to any of the other 4-5 teams in the iiac. STOP MAKING EXCUSES!

Get a clue DUDE....What excuse did I make for anything? I basically stated my opinion that the Spartans are the best of the rest. That's my opinion and I'll stick with it regardless of yours. My opinion also is that unless Coe pulls a Bill Belicheick and sits their starters to save them for the playoffs  ;), Central is in for an a$$ whoopin on Saturday  :o Central has fallen to average over the past number of years. You need to realize that you can only bring back championship teams from the schipper days to so many home games each year. If you want that kind of added motivation, you need to start busing them to BV and other away games. The facilities are run down, good recruits are going to more IIAC schools then central, and you're in the middle of no where. The past is only going to take you so far.......start living in the present and future.

Now, if UD losses to a BV team that dominated the Dutch and Central beats Coe, I will EAT CROW. How about that....even ending with a ryhmne  ;D

Willie U

1.  No need to bring back championship teams from the Schipper era (although there are more to bring back from that one era than  U Dub will probably ever see).  The first decade of the 2000's, from a conference championship perspective, were arguably as successful as any in the school's history.

2.  No facilities at Central are run down...in fact, many are newly renovated.  That said...Schipper Stadium could use a facelift...that has been discussed here before.

3.  Pella is in a pretty good location, and certainly isn't in the middle of no where (at least relative to other IIAC schools).

4.  I agree with you that Central could stand to get with the times and look to the future in some ways.

5.  If the Dutch can get to the stadium without taking a beating from the local yokels in CR, they might just have a puncher's chance.  Go Dutch!

A soar throat is keeping me from sleeping.  Let's talk stadiums.

Do kids want to see something a bit different at college than what they see in high school?  From prospective students, to prospective athletes?  I'm not sure.

Fancy scoreboards with video.  Who has them?  BVU - Yes, Central - No, Coe - No, Dubuque - Yes, Loras - ?, Luther - ?, Simpson - ?, Wartburg - No

Artificial turf - Everyone but Luther

Visitor side seating - everyone...Loras gets the prize for most unique ;D

Adequate parking...BVU - ?, Central - Yes, Coe - we were able to park close by last year, but I don't remember seeing parking lots, Dubuque - Yes, Loras - ?, Luther - ?, Simpson - ?, Wartburg - Yes

A visitor wish list for me...

Visitor side entrance...my wife walks with the aid of crutches and I have 3 small children.  Buying a ticket on the home side and then walking over to the visitor side can be a bit much.  Central had a gravel walkway over to the visitor side, which made it very difficult for my wife.  Coe doesn't.  Cornell does...but they left us.  Dubuque does.  Wartburg does.  Everyone else???

Visitor side concessions...see above, it usually means I walk alone to get them their food and drinks at halftime.  Central has a concession stand.  Cornell had one half way between home/visitor. Wartburg doesn't...but you usually get to run into warthog there and have a fun chat with him.  Coe doesn't...but again, you usually run into warthog while on your way and have a fun chat with him (that guy gets around).  Everyone else???

Visitor side restrooms...we all get grumpy when one has to make the long trek over to the home side to take care of business.  Central has 2 porta-potties...convenient, and much appreciated, but not handicapped accessable and, uh, smelly.  Coe doesn't.  Cornell you had to walk half way to Timbuktu and there was only 1 stall and long lines.  Dubuque does.  Wartburg doesn't...but they are very nice and clean over on the home side.  Everyone else???

That's all I've got.  Feel free to add on.

There will probably be a small crowd at Wartburg on Saturday, but I think we'll head up that direction anyway.  We will probably make a decision somewhere between Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls as to whether we stop at the UNI Dome to watch Council Bluffs Saint Alberts or go on the Wartburg/Loras game.  Regardless, it is likely we will make it a double header football day by cheering on Coach Brian Borrison and the Mediapolis Bulldogs at the dome before heading back to SE Iowa.
