Former Wartburg coach Bob Nielson (and alum?) named HC at FCS Western Illinois...

http://www.upi.com/Sports_News/College-Football/2012/12/19/Western-Illinois-hires-Nielson-as-coach/UPI-30981355938491/

In his 10 years at D2 Minnesota-Duluth his teams won 100 games, 5 NSIC conference titles, and 2 national championships.

Yes, doolittle, he is former Knight head coach and player.  The last team he recruited for the Knights was that group that ended up being the undefeated regular season team in 1999.
He also had a hand in the Knights 1st playoff team as an asst while in grad school @ UNI. While officially not the OC, he had a major role in the offensive success of the team. Not too many teams ran shotgun or no huddle in the IIAC in the early 80's!

Maybe this wouldn't have been the year for the IIAC, we were admittedly a bit down this year.  I was going to mention preseason scrimmages and how Grand View and William Penn easily handled Simpson and Central.  Then I remembered that UD beat UW-Stout in a preseason scrimmage...only to get smoked during the season by UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point, while UW-Stout went on to win the WIAC and make it to the D3 Semi-finals.

Great analogy except a scrimmage is a scrimmage and it was Oshkosh who made it to the semifinals, while UW-Stout went 3-7.

That's what I was getting at...a scrimmage is a scrimmage.  And it was Oshkosh that Dubuque scrimmaged.  I wrote it wrong this morning.  Maybe I had beer on my mind ;)

    My vote is for SPARDOG
I have the inside scoop that Santa is delivering the goods: the plate "KNIGHTS" is now available
& is making it's way on a UD plate to south of Waterloo. ;D

I think Mrs Doolittle was hinting that Santa will be going plain Jane license plates...as they are cheaper than the personalized ones...and I have already gone over my Santa cost limit ;)

I don't often disagree with Mrs. doolittledog, but in this case she is wrong.  The orange/black personalized plates the Warthog clan has on our vehicles has instigated more conversations in parking lots, rest stops, and stop lights than you can ever imagine.  Spend the few extra bucks and go for it.  I might warn you that people with Luther plates will occasionally "moon" you as you travel along I-80. I-380, and I-35.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all.  Next year is going to be a great year as we all want to believe it will be our team's turn.  Great dreams for the next few months.

I saw a Dos Equis commercial the other night and it inspired me to make up stories for the IIAC's most interesting man.  These are the best I have so far:
Pep bands invite him to sit in with them just for the good vibrations he gives off.
His tailgate parties get three stars in the Michelin Guide.
Once during a game he sneezed.  The referee mistook his achoo for a boo and immediately reversed the last call.
He is the only person to ever successfully start The Wave from Luther's visitor's stands.

Yeah I know, too much time on my hands.

If only my wife found me that interesting ;D

I was surprised to learn the UD pep band doesn't drink during the game as we did back in the day.  Not surprisingly...they sound much better than we did!!!

I'm not above bribing the Michelin judges with trips to E. Dubuque

If only I could get bad calls reversed

I believe about 10 of us were doing the wave at a Luther basketball game in the late 80's or maybe early 90's.  Even the few other Dubuque fans near us looked embarassed for us.  That's before I grew the white beard and often drank Dos Equis surrounded by beautiful women though

      As for IIAC talk...

      Any surprise transfers???

Any building projects out there for any of our schools???

Coaching changes...not limited to head coaches???

      Membership news (expansion or otherwise)?

Congrats to Spurrier as his son finished his career as a Cincinatti Bearcat with a 48-34 victory over Duke in the Belk Bowl.  Spurrier Jr. had 2 solo tackles in the game.
