Oops.  I was trying to make things tidy on the page and erased the game at Augustana September 14.

I think those stats point towards a certain conference championship for Dubuque next season.  But that could be the beer talking.

DBQ1965

I didn't know whether to put this on this page or the BB page.

With Miles Hookstead and the Spartans getting ready to face UWW in the NCAA BB playoffs :D ... and with the number of two-sport athletes in D3 ... I wonder how many have had the good fortune to be in both the NCAA D3 football and basketball playoffs ::)?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

I'd guess former Wartburg Knight and current University of Dubuque Coach, Jake Olsen, would be one of them.

Wrestling regionals this weekend in Dubuque at the 5 Flags Center.  Its the Iowa Conference + Augustana, Cornell, and Knox.  Top 3 in each weight move on to nationals.

http://www.thonline.com/sports/local_sports/article_be77b78a-5253-5ad8-abbc-0bae99a153e1.html

From the article...

Eleven teams. Thirty berths to the show. The math is challenging for competitors at Saturday's NCAA Division III Central Wrestling Regional at Five Flags Center. Here is a capsule look at the nationals qualifier:

NCAA DIVISION III CENTRAL REGIONAL

Regional field -- Loras, Dubuque, Augustana, Buena Vista, Central, Coe, Cornell, Knox, Luther, Simpson, Wartburg.

Moving on -- Top three finishers in each weight class qualify for Division III Championships, March 15-16 at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Tickets -- $13 adult, $11 students and seniors (tickets good for all sessions)

Regional schedule -- 8 a.m.: Doors open for spectators; 9 a.m.: Championship first round; 10:15 a.m.: Championship quarterfinals and Consolation first round, Consolation second round; 1 p.m.: Championship semifinals and consolation third round; 3 p.m.: Consolation semifinals; 5 p.m. Championship and third- and fifth-place matches

Outlook -- Welcome to the nation's toughest road to nationals. The Central Regional features defending NCAA Division III team champion Wartburg, plus the Iowa Conference's entire team roster, seven Top 30-ranked teams and 22 of the nation's 100 ranked D-III wrestlers. No. 24 Dubuque and No. 25 Loras are out to top their 2012 NCAA numbers and get multiple men through. Loras' lineup is armed with one of the nation's most exciting freshman heavyweights in No. 7-ranked James Buss and a breakout nationals threat in No. 9-ranked 133-pound freshman Nick Steger. Dubuque has three sound national contenders and could get as many as five through. Dubuque has No. 8 Chris Sokol at 133, No. 5 Derek Mizaur at 174 and No. 10 Logan Einerson at 184. If you're looking for potential future national champions, watch out for Wartburg's top-ranked Kenny Anderson at 133, the Knights' Kodie Silvestri at 149 and Buena Vista's No. 2 Brian Broll at 184.

I hope to see some D3 Board regulars at the wrestling regional in Dubuque tomorrow.  Wartmobile heads north around 6:30 a.m.
