Warthog- What makes you think Loras will beat Buena Vista? I wouldn't give Loras a win throughout all the conference games.
Loras loses basically their whole offensive line so the tailback from last year wont have as impressive numbers this year and Buena vista beat them by what should've been 35 but they scored with 10 seconds left on BV's 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Is there any notable transfers for any of the colleges that you know for sure that are happening? Also, is the Virginia Tech transfer to Dubuque still there or was that a one week thing? Any insight at all....

Just like Dubuque was not going to replace Colten Hansen
Just like Dubuque will not be able to replace Wyatt Hanus

The answer is no, once Nick Dew found out he couldn't play football, going to class and getting an education wasn't a priority anymore.  ???

Stom:

I just hate to predict a team won't win any games in conference.
I had already picked Luther to beat Loras in a previous post.
I don't pick my two favorite teams to lose (Wartburg or Dubuque).
I am fairly certain Central, Simpson, and Coe won't lose to them.
I only had BV left.
If Upper Iowa was still in the league I wouldn't have disrespected the Beavers.

As you can see my picks are very scientific.  Which explains why I haven't won an office football bowl pool in thirty years.

Thats understandable Warthog, I see where you are coming from. I just didn't know if you had any particular reason for Loras or against BV.
Mainly trying to spark some conversations on the board, since the boards aren't very active this time of the year.

I like your thinking.

How about...
Is Coe threatening to become THE power in the conference, as opposed to part of the upper tier of the conference???

Of BVU and Simpson...which school stands the better chance of staying towards the top of the conference next season?  And why??

If neither Central or Wartburg win the conference next season...will we see some rumblings from their fan bases???

Where are the best places to get grub/drinks after games in each of the IIAC cities?

#1 Coe needs to win two or three more out right titles before that happens in my opinion.  Last year was the first in the IIAC.

#2 The better question here in my opinion can they both stay there?

#3 speaking as a Dutch fan first and Wartburg supporter of the college as a whole.  Central will endure more than a setback or two.  Wartburg will not abandon Coach Willis over a couple of seasons not winning the IIAC.  I would say it would have to be a 5-10 year drought for both schools to look for other coaches.

I never really understood the whole "winning outright titles" argument.  I'm sure Central still counts their shared titles in '02 and '05.

I agree Coe isn't there yet, but looking at the last 4 seasons I think you can start to see if they can continue at this pace over the next few seasons you could see the Kohawks starting to seperate themselves from the rest of the pack.  It is a big if though.

Over the past 4 seasons Central, Coe, Dubuque, Wartburg each have a conference title. Overall in conference play we have...

Coe          27-4...1 title, 3 playoff appearances...only losses are to Central, Dubuque, Wartburg
Central     24-7...1 title, 1 playoff appearance...includes a loss each to BVU and Simpson
Wartburg  23-8...1 title, 1 playoff appearance...includes a loss to BVU and twice to Simpson
Dubuque 18-13...1 title, 1 playoff appearance...includes a loss to Luther and twice to Loras

Do you think BVU and Simpson can stay up?  Why or why not?  I want to hear your opinion...you are usually fairly accurate  ;)

I don't mean canning a coach.  Do you think there will be unrest among the fan base if each of those schools go 3-5 years without a conference title?  Their fan bases expect more than the other schools in the IIAC.  If Central fails to win the league this year they will become the 1st senior class to leave without a conference title since 1973.  If Wartburg can't win a title over the next 2 seasons they will be the 1st senior class since 1998 to leave without a conference title.  Again, some big ifs there...but you know, it's the off season!

And, uh, food and drinks...where are the best places???  ;D

My response was directed at your specific question and I quote "Is Coe threatening to become The Power in the conference".

To be "THE POWER" I think that a team needs to be the outright champ.  If there are multiple teams tying for the conference championship how can there be "THE POWER"?  "THE" is singular is it not?  So my post was to address your question.  If you look back at the tally books you will see that Coe has one only one outright championship in the IIAC.  That is not to run Coe down at all, that is to address your question of are they threatening to become "THE POWER".  I am not here to say that cochamps are a bad thing at all or denegrate a cochamp.  I was trying to answer your question.  A champ is a champ shared with one, outright, or with 4 other teams.  The W-L records used to determine that speak for themselves.  I think of a team being dominate is the Mount Unions, UWW, SJU (in the past) St Thomas now.  Is Coe an elite IIAC program I'd have to say yes by their body of work over the past 10-12 years.  Are they "THE POWER"?  Give me another 3-4 seasons and I will answer that question if the good Lord is willing.

As far as BV and Simpson both staying in the top half I would have to say no.  That is not a knock on their programs at all.  Do the math.  If Central, Wartburg, Dubuque, and Coe (and that is not a given in this conference) are competitive and remain at the top someone has to be on the bottom.  If there is one "POWER" and everyone is fighting for second place then they can remain in the top half due to ties.  Mathematically I don't see it happening with wins and losses but if 4-5 teams beat each other up then there could be 6 teams in the top 4 spots due to ties.  If we have another season that is a six team race for the AQ then that will be exciting for the IIAC as a whole but IMHO that does not bode well for the AQ for the playoffs as that means we are watering down our teams unless our teams are all 3-0 coming out of nonconference play.  If UD comes out 3-0 with their nonconference schedule look out I don't like the rest of the IIAC's chances.

Whenever I am in Pella I always try to make a point to at least have a drink at Applebee's just because they host the Monday night half hour radio show with Coach McMartin during the football season.

We had this discussion last season, and I said without Zweifel, Central would win. They did. This season, as things stand now (several 5th year seniors returning for central, recruiting classes as they are, etc.) I am saying w/o that QB, central will again.
