I have no clue...
Locker room material on most boards. :o

I've been around here long enough for everyone to already be aware that I have no clue.  And if anyone has any questions, they can just ask my wife and she will tell them ;)

Aren't soccer fields planar?

Well, yes.  Do football fields typically have mountains in them?

With the notable exception of skiing and bobsledding, virtually all sports are planar. ::)

And some fields' crowns are mountain like haha

On our old grass field the crown was so high that if you stood on one side and looked across the field you could only see your opponents from the knees up.

Mount Mercy plans athletic complex

That's right on the doorstep of Coe, in between the 2 schools.  But, it is an industrial site.  I would think Coe is more interested in buying up single family housing towards 1st St.  Athletics wise, Coe really only needs to find space for a baseball field and maybe additional parking. otherwise the Kohawks are fine.

My guess is Mt. Mercy, as formerly a womens college, will never add football.  But you never know, I suppose.  Same goes for Clarke University in Dubuque.
Word on the street is that they'll be adding football in a couple of years.

I heard it through a long grapevine that you will be seeing lots of long haired Dutchmen on the field this year. The hair regulations are out the window for this season.

Interesting.  Seems like the only place the NAIA has added football schools over the past 15 years is Iowa.  With Briar Cliff, Dordt, Grand View, and Waldorf...and William Penn moving over from D3.

Mt Mercy adding football might also make sense with the talk that St. Ambrose wants to start a catholic-only conference.  That conference was to include St Ambrose, Clark, Mt Mercy, and Viterbo from their current conference and then some mystery catholic institutions.  It was noted that St. Ambrose was the only one mentioned that had football.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if a catholic football league is started, Loras will jump ship from the IIAC and join as well. It will be their best opportunity for success playing 3-4 teams that never had football before  ;D  ;D  ;D

On a more serious note, I really DO think they would make the switch. I could see them being a top half team in a conference of catholic colleges. I have always thought it would be pretty cool for UD and Loras and the Dubuque community if UD and Loras were playing each other at the end of the season and the winner would be crowned conference champs. Believe me, I am not cheering for them by any stretch of the imagination just thinking about the hype. And of course, with the Spartans beating them down and being crowned champions.

OR if Loras joined the catholic league and eventually won it and UD won the IIAC, it would be cool to play each other in the playoffs. And I assume we would of course play each other in non-conference play as well.

The problem in that scenario is the Loras president is a big D3 supporter and St. Ambrose seems to be fairly happy in the NAIA.

I can't think of enough catholic D3 schools that would be interested.  There are close to enough catholic schools in the MSFA, which is a football only conference with St. Ambrose that they might consider forming an all-sports conference.  Who knows.

It would be interesting to see if Mt. Mercy adds football if they would eventually be considered more of a rival to Coe than Cornell would be.

He may be but if his football team can't find success in the next few years in the IIAC, a move may be just what is needed. Use Cornell as example. Had enough of being a IIAC doormat for pretty much all of their IIAC existence so went back to where they had success in the past and already got out of cellar in their first season.
