The problem in that scenario is the Loras president is a big D3 supporter and St. Ambrose seems to be fairly happy in the NAIA.

I can't think of enough catholic D3 schools that would be interested.  There are close to enough catholic schools in the MSFA, which is a football only conference with St. Ambrose that they might consider forming an all-sports conference.  Who knows.

It would be interesting to see if Mt. Mercy adds football if they would eventually be considered more of a rival to Coe than Cornell would be.

He may be but if his football team can't find success in the next few years in the IIAC, a move may be just what is needed. Use Cornell as example. Had enough of being a IIAC doormat for pretty much all of their IIAC existence so went back to where they had success in the past and already got out of cellar in their first season.

True, and the route William Penn followed as well.  They are now a top 20 ranked team in the NAIA after struggling in the IIAC.  I'm just glad Dubuque decided to try to improve themselves and get better as opposed to running away from the struggle.

I don't wan't Loras to move on, our conference is at 8 teams now.  I don't want it any smaller.  Plus, even though Loras left for about 30 years, 6 of our 8 conference schools have been in the league since the 1920's and the 7th joined the conference in the 1930's.  I like long time rivals and the history our conference has.  I would not like the football league St Ambrose is in where they have had 29 teams during the 20 years of the conference.  I like stability.

Agree, I would rather them stay in the conference and preferrably at the bottom of the conference forever .......that is stable enough for me!  ;D  ;D  ;D

Field is taking shape. Midfield "W" is almost complete. Wartburg & Knights to follow in orange endzones! Looks pretty sweet!

I think it's great Wartburg is finally going back to using the color orange again.  It looks nice.

Of course, as a fan of another school...I reserve the right to make snide comments about your pink field once the orange eventually fades to pink  ;D

Grass football fields are crowned

No modern grass field with a proper drainage has a crown. Old school ones definitely did. And the bad ones was basically running downhill toward the sidelines. Newer grass fields are perfectly flat.

Luckily most of the top schools recently installed turf so we're safe from grass for another 5-8 years.

With the new NCAA In-Region rules getting stricter, I think you will see less and less of Coe vs. Mt. Mercy in most sports. It will likely be the case with most D3 schools playing NAIA schools.

After the mess two years ago of playing Olivet Nazarene and Iowa Wesleyan (then NAIA), Coe will not be playing an NAIA school in football in a long, long time.

Anyone have updated pics of the central turf? I heard it looks great but haven't seen it.

Wow, the logos at the 30s looks great. New field, new unis, new team rules....could be an exciting season for the dutch.

doolittledog

So, Central gets a new field, unis, ext. ext.

If notlongago donates $10 milion tomorrow to build a kick ass new home stand on the current visitors side of the stadium, like has been talked about, which would then make the current home stand a nice away stand...could Central reverse that big central C at the 50 yard line?  Or would then need a whole new carpet for their football team???

Haha, if anyone could donate 10 million, they could swing a few hundred grand for another new field haha

D3Dutchman

What are the new team rules?  What type of unis did they go with?

I give you the new Central unis...

Ok, ok...that is the new Indiana uni.  But it would be fun to see the geriatric portion of the Central fanbase go into meltdown mode if the Dutch unveiled that as their new helmet!!!

As I understand it, its the same basic design, just modernized with a better cut. They went away from Russel as well.
