Wow I had no idea (or forgot) that A) Central only had 8 All-conference players B) Return 6 of them.

This re-enforces my prediction that they will challenge Coe for the title.....But again, Wartburg and Simpson will be challengers as well. I personally dont see DBQ contending for top 3, but it really wouldn't surprise me if I were wrong.

What are the thoughts on Simpson??

looks as if most of the top skilled positions are coming back...all the top rushers, QB and Vogel at WR.

I believe they graduated several key linemen.  Any idea on who fills in?

Do they make a move???  up?  down?  or stay in the middle of the pack?

That's the difference between winning the big games and competing in the playoffs, the line play. You can have all the skill players you want, without the big boys on either side of the ball, it's like a pencil without lead.

If I were a betting man, Id say they stay somewhat in the middle. If I had to choose up or down, Id take a move upward for the storm

I don't want to wade through posts going back 6 months or so...but does anyone remember a post on here that said Simpson was losing 20 of 22 from their defensive two deep?  If that's the case, they could be fun to watch this year.  I think their offense will put a lot of points on the scoreboard, and we might see their defense giving up almost as much.

I am sure this has happened a number of pages ago but here are my predictions for 2013:

1 UD
2-4, Coe, Wartburg, Central (No particular order yet  ;D
5. Simpson
6. BV
7. Loras
8. Luther

actually had a chance to talk with a couple of Simpson players last night...the concern does appear to be the line but sounds like they have some young inexperienced  talent...I thought they had a chance last year to compete for a title...I know I know - they finished "2nd" but they were closer to 6th than 1st.  I just wonder if and when they will make the move to compete for a conference title again.  If the line does not gel early this may be another mediocre year and then the skilled positions players start to graduate and then what??   thoughts???

My thoughts are it is better to have an experienced line with unproven skill players than experienced skill players behind an unproven line.  Actually, that's more of a hunch than thoughts.  I'm just a fan and former band member...never played the game  ;)

As a former player, I have seen and been apart of teams with an experience line with good skill players and an unexperience line with good skill players. The ladder of the two resulted in a mediorce team that barely made .500. We could not win the close games and when we played superior teams, it was not pretty, we fought hard, but it was not good.

I would say you are part of the exception in fans with no football playing experience to realize that the line (either side of the ball) plays a huge part in the success of a team.

doolittledog

That might come with years of watching 0-10/2-8 type Dubuque teams with some of the best skill players in the league struggle for wins  ;D

putmeincoach

if I'm reading into the comments correctly...sounds like most think .500 or below for the Storm???

Not sure about that (don't want bulitin board material)  I just think it would be hard to challenge for a conference title with a bunch of new faces in the trenches.

I've heard promising things regarding Simpson recruiting...so who knows, I just think the Storm might be a year away.

coocooforcoekohawk

I haven't been on here for a while.

So, who is coming in second this year?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
