They already reported this but the pictures are nice.

Being an old guy and against change, I don't like the extra logo on the 30 yd line.  The big C in the middle was enough, the rest makes it too busy.

What I don't know is, who are the players?  Aren't there rules about when guys can suit up and be out there with people who look like coaches?

What do you consider "old"?

I personally love the 30 yard logos.....but then again im all about flash. More logos, new unis, etc. Im all for it.

And that appears to be one of the team camps Central hosts for various high school teams.
I consider you old if you call Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium the "New Football Field."  The just plain "Football Field," was where the Kruidenier Theatre is now and a freight train used to go by once per game.

Normally I like flash too, but not on football uniforms or fields.  I would like to see more flash with the dance team, band and cheerleaders.

Looks like the Spaten tent at Oktoberfest.  If that is what the Wartburg tailgates are like, the average age in Waverly must be about 89 years old on gamedays.  Definitely the soberest tent that I saw while visiting.  You could tell all the old cronies had their reserved tables passed down the generations.  The Hofbrau and Hakker Pshorr tents are where it's at (and I visited with a group of fellow Central grads...yes we like beer too).  Don't get me started on the Central game day experience these days though.

Anywho...I like the logo on the 30's...looks cool.  Anyone know when they might start on what was supposed to be "Phase 2" of the stadium renovation?  The renderings looked pretty cool at the time, and moving the home stands to the West side of the field is long overdue.  Hopefully it happens soon.  And while there at it...abolish the pep band and allow beer at tailgates for goodness sake...that is all  ;)

Oh, and I didn't know the old "no wild hair sets" rule was going out the window.  Must have some real reformers on the staff nowadays...there goes the neighborhood.

Now that Central has their liquor licence, is this something we could happen shortly? (not that the license has anything to do with it, but it may show a change in the attitude.)

That's lame....I suppose you want gangsta rap blasting out from the speakers....  :P

I'm sure inside that tent that's pictured there's something similar to a pep band.....or maybe they just have canned rap music in there?

Not a pep band hater guy, would just like to see one with a pulse if they are gonna have it.  The Central pep band has digressed over the years.  To be honest, it is pretty close to embarrassing.  I can guarantee you the Pella Middle School Band would do a better job.

Who knew the Oktoberfest tent pic would get so much mileage?  Yeah, they have bands in there, and they can carry a tune while they are at it.  They also supplement it with canned music.  I'd like to see the best of both worlds to be honest.

Hope you're right.  You seem to have the inside track on things down there...is there a change in attitude towards letting loose a little with the new prez?  I always heard ole' Doc Roe tried to be a little more progressive with things on campus, but he never seemed to get anything passed through.

Well...being a former high school music teacher I can understand.....the first thing that usually get's thrown under the bus is music education, the arts and vocational classes.
It's pretty sad these days in that respect.

Dubuque is also keeping busy this summer.

Construction continues on the new indoor practice facility...

...which will likely help lead to more of these...

...which would lead UD fans to this...

Not saying I have a lot of, or even accurate, information but just from speaking with a few connections around here:

Simpson

Pros – returning all conference QB, returning all conference (and preseason AA) WR and top leading rushers all return

Cons – lost a lot on defense and offensive line

I do not know anything about what they have brought in for recruits

Good question to get things started - I'd like to hear from everyone else

doolittledog

On offense Dubuque returns most of their line, most of their receiving corps, all of their running backs...need to find an able replacement for Wyatt Hanus at QB.  I suspect they will!!!

My feelings are it is better to have a good line in front of a new QB than an inexperianced line in front of a good QB.

On defense Dubuque loses about half their secondary, half their LB's, half of their line.  Players with experience are waiting in the wings.  We shall see.

I don't know much about recruiting...I have heard the Spartans have 9 incoming freshmen that played in State All-Star games this summer.  I'm sure most every school has a mix of kids with a similar pedigree...As usual, you still need to see how they develope once they are on campus.

Central:

Pros:
6-5th year seniors, including one who missed last year, but was a pre-season AA last year.
Returning nearly all skill position players (and seem to have the QB situation settled)
Return large majority of defense

Cons:
Lost a very good linebacker
....theres probably more, but i can't think of them off the top of my head.

Recruting: Probably similar to the other "2nd place" teams...around 45 it sounds like, more than a few all-staters, etc.

Should be an exciting year (barring injury)

Fannosaurus Rex

I would say that the biggest "con" is that last year they were only 5-5.  At the start of last season I would have told you that the young talent is going to develop in 2012 and in 2013 they are going to the Stagg Bowl.  Then I got a heaping dose of reality opening day against Oshkosh and things didn't get a whole lot better the rest of the year.  So now, who knows?  Of course all it would take to reignite my normal Central fan's optimism is for them to beat Oshkosh this year.
