Walston Hoover Stadium  news. Who's paying for all the upgrades.

I like the new scoreboards going into IIAC stadiums.

I like the idea of employing students for Knight Vision.  I am curious about the word "premium" in that story.  Will this be a subscription service?  I won't pay to watch Wartburg.  They mention live streaming 5 football games and 5 basketball double headers...will they be archived to watch later???  Most of the rest of the conference uses Game Central which is a free service and archives games for you to watch at a later date.  I hope the Wartburg venture gives us something as nice as Game Central.  And please, please, please use this money to train a camera operator to actually move the camera and not just sit on a view of the 50 yard line while the game action is down by the goal line!!!

Nice to see a significant amount of money put into softball and baseball fields and their infrastructure as well.  I always like to see nice facilities for all of the sports and not just the big dogs.

The way it was explained last night is basically what AEN posted.  They use the word premium because of the multi-camera production which will allow the Communication Arts students the ability to produce-direct-edit and host their own television production of live Wartburg events.  Nothing was mentioned that this would be a pay-to-view presentation.  I doubt that would work for most D3 athletic departments.

I read with interest about the new scoreboard and video screen at Central College.  Like doolittledog mentioned this will be a great addition to the stadium.

I also read it will be the biggest video screen in the IIAC.  That is really cool.

However, the designation as the largest in the IIAC is a title they will only be able to claim for two weeks.  I just returned from a Wartburg Booster Club event.  It was announced Wartburg will be installing a larger video screen at Walston-Hoover Stadium.  It should be ready for the first home game this fall.  I'm not familiar with college scoreboards, but we were told the one at Wartburg will be a twin of the one at UW-LAX.  Apparently the Wartburg Track & Field coaching staff was impressed by the UW-LAX setup when they saw it at the meet up there.

Did the plans change since that 8/8 article got written? If so, how big do the new plans call for it to be?

last year I believe there were 2 1000 yard rushers in the IIAC - who can do it this year?

my prediction - Osborn from Central

Kyle Acker from Dubuque.  Rushed for 993 yards last year as a junior.  I expect a Justin Spaulding 2011 type senior year from him.

And Nate Carrier from Loras lead the conference as a Freshman last season with 1200+ yards and over 5 yards per carry.  If Mr. Carrier is willing to come back to the Rock Bowl this season I would think he has a good of a shot as anyone.  The kid runs hard and gets lots of yards after contact and plays in a run heavy offense.

What do you mean by "If Mr. Carrier is willing to come back to the Rock Bowl this season"?  Is there a chance he may not return?  Had this been mentioned before?

What do you mean by "If Mr. Carrier is willing to come back to the Rock Bowl this season"?

In 2011 Loras had a freshman as their featured back in Devin Kass.  He rushed for 800+ yards and was 4th in the conference in rushing and he didn't come back for his sophomore year.  I hope Mr. Carrier comes back, but you never know.  As someone that is a fan of a school that went about 15 years with very few wins, it can be hard to get talented freshman to come back to a program when they know they will be busting their butts for very few results.  That's all I meant by that.

If he returns he likely will be a 1000 yard rusher - but I do see where it may be beneficial to not over work the kid...but who knows some guys want the ball every play.

Any others that have a shot at 1000 yards?

He will most definitely be back for his sophomore season.

Good.  Carrier seemed to have a good attitude on the field, that should rub off on the players around him.

Great kid, he's a pleasure to be around. Expecting big things from him this season.

Kohawk Krazy

I don't see either one going for 1,000 yards, but Gage Mohs and Carvin Thompson are going to be a great 1-2 punch for the Kohawks.

That limb feeling a bit unstable? Those are bold predictions.

I think acker has no issue getting 1000 being as how DBQ will lean in him as they break in a new QB (and depending how that goes, they may ride him all 10 games).

I predict a similar year for the kid from Loras.

Central will have talent at RB, but not sure the line will be able to do their job good enough to spring a 1000 yd rusher.

No idea on the rest of the conference.

Loras reports today.

Central and Simpson, Thursday the 15th

I think the rest report on Saturday the 17th

I get that Loras would report 2 days earlier than Central and Simpson, since they have a Thursday game this year.  How is it most other teams are 2 days later than Central and Simpson?

Its all about creating drama in the league. Central and Simpson have the pieces to make runs this year, but need the extra days to fit them together. Allowing Warty, DBQ, Coe those extra 2 days would be unfair.  ;D

5 Words or Less

As much as it pains me to say this, but I kinda miss the swagger that the Wartburg fans brought to the board a few years back.  Their opinions generated a lot of discussion and kept the pages rolling.  As we approach the new season, I'm hoping that the conversation picks up a bit ... and to that end, may I suggest that we all make a goal of recruiting at least one new person to join the board before the start of the season.

Sincerely yours,
