On my low def computer monitor, Central's jerseys looked the same as always.  Did the new Under Armors  look different to the eye witnesses?

As for the game, I thought Central played well.  They had a couple of lapses and dumb penalties that cost them, just like last year.  It was kind of sad because I couldn't get too excited when Central was going up 17 because I could just kind of sense that once Oshkosh got going, they were going to be much much better, and they were.

Yeah, you kind of knew Oskosh would make a run, but I thought Central would have enough to hold them off...and really they did, save the aforementioned mistakes.  Someone mentioned that size was maybe an issue, but I'm not sure that I saw that...the long passes were killer.  McMartin metioned getting beat deep as one of the issues they were trying to avoid in his post game interview, but that clearly didn't happen in the second half on a couple of occasions.  I have to assume those were a product of blown coverages...a little more size in the secondary might have helped with a pass breakup though I guess.  It'll be interesting to see how things play out.  If Oskosh really is the 12th ranked team in the land, then the Dutch will be in for a nice year.

And on his radio show last night The Coach said Auggie's receivers are at least as good and probably better, or words to that effect.  Yikes! Maybe the D line can get a little more heat on the Auggie qb than they could against Oshkosh.

He also inferred their QB was much better than UWO. COuld be a rough night if they are half as good as he bragged them up to be.

I didn't realize the block in the block call was as bad as Castle made it out to be. Oh well, don't blow coverage and get beat deep, thats a moot point.

Doesn't McMartin always talk up the competition every week and make things seem tougher then they really are  ??? By doing that, if they win, it seems like an even bigger win, if they lose, well, the competition was just so fierce!  ;)

I don't think Auggie will come close to the competition of Osh Kosh. IMHO

This...sounds like some expert coach speak out of McMartin.  Looks like Auggie beat Mt. Saint Joseph 20-10...not a traditional powerhouse by any means.  A couple of things stuck out to me when I looked at the box score.  1)  4 turnovers for each team...sloppy.  2)  298 rush yards to 101 pass yards for Auggie...65/35 run/pass split.  Seems like this plays into the strength of the Dutch D.  I would think the Dutch should handle Auggie if they can clean up mistakes and match the intensity of the home team that will likely be jacked for a night game.

I'm expecting Augustana to be competitive.  It was a close game last year in Pella and Central's recent road history has not been good.  Anyway, if the Augie coach got the film of Central's game Saturday, I bet he calls a lot of that favorite old playground play, "Everybody Go Deep."  I hope the Dutch secondary is ready and I hope the D line can pressure the quarterback.

Looked the same to me. UWO #12, hmmm...maybe so?

What's up with running out of water before halftime for fans at the game? I went to 3 different concessions (2 on home side and then trecked over to visitor's side) stands and was told they were sold out?! Out of bottled water when it's 100* out?! Come on man...

I think I know where BandGetsToPlay is from...

Though, he/she is correct, no excuse for running out of water...especially with the heat we have had here recently.

If it will make you feel any better, I drank enough beer for both of us while I was watching from my air conditioned home.

Don't forget to get week #2 picks in!  If you missed week #1 it's all good.... come join us anyway!

Perhaps everyone is working 24-7 so the board has been really slow this week.  Always like to hear of folks promoting their team or commenting on others.  Makes my day!  :)

I'm looking forward to the UD vs UW-PLATTEVILLE game.  The UD  quarterback is the real MacCoy..........I think the best in the IIAC this year bar none.  He throws the softest ball w/ tight spiral 50 yards.
Comments.........

However, I picked Platteville to win as being overall superior to UD in spite of UD's big, fat O Line.  Comments.............

I hear the Norse are angry over their 13th loss. Don' want to be Cornell.  Maybe that will help.  Comments............

1 - I'll get my first look at the new UD QB this weekend.  I am of the opinion the Spartans #2 QB (also a former starter at the D2 level)  would also be a top QB in the IIAC.

2 - I think the UD defense might be surprising this year.  Last year the UD offense was able to move on the Pioneers, but the UD defense had trouble in that game.  If the UD defense can get some stops this weekend, this has the potential to be a very good game.  And with a 6pm kickoff, many on here should be able to catch it after seeing their favorite team earlier in the day.

3 - I can't imagine anyone NOT being anger over their 13th loss ;D

They're up to 10th now.  Must have gotten some credit for beating the Dutch.  Central got no love for losing a close one that's for sure.

Not surprising about the water sadly.  The last few game day experiences I've seen have been pretty disappointing.  It's almost as if the experience for the fans is a complete afterthought.  I mean, not having enough water for a hot day like that (which they knew was coming for days) is pretty much inexcusable.

For those that were there, was there any effort to liven things up a little at Schipper Stadium?
