From the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald...

http://www.thonline.com/sports/local_sports/article_b1cf3ac9-cae7-537d-9d8f-69c3d961f100.html

Loras' Nate Carrier named athlete of the week.

From the article...

Loras College running back Nate Carrier was named the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's male athlete of the week.

Carrier, a sophomore from Shullsburg, Wis., had 38 carries for 263 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Duhawks to a 44-33 win at Rockford University.

Carrier's rushing total is the highest for an Iowa Conference back in a single game since Luther's Tyler Sherden ran for 297 yards and five scores in a 47-41, double-over time win over Simpson on Nov. 3, 2007.

Loras placekicker Louie Oswald also was recognized for his performance Saturday. Oswald, a senior who prepped at Dubuque Wahlert, connected on field goals of 21, 30 and 26 yards and made five extra points.

Louis Oswald was named special teams player of the week. Things looking up for the Duhawks

In an article on college tuition costs, USA today noted that Central College of Iowa had a precipitous drop in enrollment this year.  (Probably the freshman class.)

That has to effect athletic recruiting as well.  Anyone heard anything about Central's enrollment?

I read that article as well today.

But, more importantly, I wonder how many central coaches will drive to UW Stevens Point to study up on the Spartans this weekend  ;)

But more importantly, I wonder about the tweet UD alum Tony Danza sent out today saying that fans of UD, U of Iowa, and city of Dubuque should watch his appearance on Jimmy Fallon tonight.  This after news on KWWL that the Jimmy Fallon show contacted UD to send the show UD t-shirts, pennants, and other items  ;D

Danza apologizes to UD's faculty  ;) ;D ;)

Tony (Iadanza then) liked having a good time in his days at UD, but he did ok in my Speech Fundamentals class.  Maybe that was an indication of his "calling" then.

You can include me among those that never thought I would see Tony Danza tap dance to the UD fight song on a late night talk show ;)

It is nice to see those with IIAC educations that have gone on to public lives, use that forum to talk up their schools.  Harry Smith for Central, Marv Levy and Fred Jackson for Coe, and Greg Gumbel for Loras are the other ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Pat,

I enjoy the D 3 board so much.  Great innovation .

Question however.........why is the IIAC pick'ems site often not available?  There is no second page when I look for it and our site is very often not listed.

Only an inquiry not a criticism.

I have no idea -- I never go to the Pick 'ems board. If there's no second page, then all of the boards should be on there.

I suspect you are  clicking on the "new" button.  It will only show updates posted since you last looked.

That does sound like something that would cause that.
