A favor to my friends in Iowa (It's been a while since the Johnnies have given me occasion to visit these boards):

Oz daughter #1 loves fashion and would love to become a designer one day. She's entered a design in a 'Witchery' competition (Australian fashion store). The five entries with the most votes become finalists. To increase her chance of winning I'd really appreciate it if you and your friends/family would vote for her. It's really easy. Just click on the link below' and vote. Thanks!

I voted, reserve my family some runway seats during fashion week after her big win!

2 big match-ups this week. DBQ vs. Central & Warty vs. Simpson. Big implications to the conference race right off the bat.

It looks like warty may still be trying to get a few things figured out, while Simpson is relying on their high flying O. I think I gotta go with Simpson in this one as they were the wart killer even when they weren't very good.

The Central/DBQ one is much tougher to diagnose. Both teams have distinct strengths and weaknesses that just so happen to be the others weakness and strength. The only result that could surprise me is a blowout by either team. I see DBQ chucking it all over centrals DBs while the Dutch LBs and dline get a couple sacks to stop a couple drives. I see centrals kicking /punting pinning DBQ deep a few times, but again, their O will negate a lot of those. Should be a hell of a game.

Thoughts?

Where the Central/Dubuque game is a case of strength/weaknesses going against weakness/strength.  Simpson/Wartburg might be strength/weaknesses going up against each other.  For Simpson, their strength is offense and that is going up against a defense that is the strength of Wartburg.  The weakness at Wartburg is supposedly the O-line, and they will be going up against a Storm defense that is rebuilding.

From reading reports, it has seemed the last 2 years that Wartburg found strange ways to lose, as opposed to Simpson finding a way to win.  It's hard to expect multiple missed extra points a 3rd year in a row...especially with the game in Waverly this year.  I'll predict a Wartburg victory...but plenty of grumbling about the way the Knights won and more comments from the Wartburg faithful that they have a lot of work to do if they expect to compete for a conference title as the season progresses.

If I was an outsider, I would be expecting a Central victory this weekend.  But I am a Spartan fan, so I expect a Spartan victory.  Either way, I do expect to see a very well played game this Saturday at Chalmers field.  Hopefully it doesn't rain, if it does I can just send my wife and kids into the Chlapaty center while I pace back and forth outside trying to will my team towards a victory.  And Klompen, I'm breaking out my mower for the 1st time in about 4 weeks in a few days.  I'll only be mowing weeds, as my grass refuses to grow due to lack of water, but I feel I need to use any mojo I can find to help my team  ;)

Well, you probably do need that lucky lawnmower given that Central has the best offensive, best defensive and  best special team players of the week.  A clean sweep!  Imagine that, you would almost think Central was the only team competing last week.   :D  Gotta laugh at the story on the Central website that fails to mention that little aspect, but it sure sounds good.  Hopefully they can do it this week against the Spartans, and sorry to all the UDers that I insulted by referring to the Duhawks earlier this week.  I must have been really tired at the time.

Now if the Dutch can just get a win and another clean sweep next week, I would be really impressed.

Yeah, you lost all kinds of points with that mistake!

But, I'll give you them back after the Spartans dismantle the Dutch on Saturday!

GO SPARTANS!!

My Karma is going to need it too, because now that I apologized for insulting the Spartans, the Duhawk fans are going to bang my Karma.  Good thing there aren't many.

I will say I am a little more worried about UD than I would like to be.  The passing stats are pretty freaking good given that you have played all WIAC teams.  Glad to have a DIII track champion available to put on the UD receivers.  It sounds like most of the guys that got banged up on Saturday will be ready to go this week and maybe some who have been out for longer.

To be fair it'd be hard to argue against any of those 3 players getting the conference award. A 200 yd 3 TD rushing performance, 83% of punts inside the 20 (on a windy/rainy day), and 5 solo tackles (2 TFL and 2 sacks)... It's just not common to see 3 performances like that in 3 different phases of the game on the same team in the same game.

just match up the stats to the previous week when all the other teams played and see how they compare - I haven't even looked so someone with more time than I have can probably take care of this

Thanks, all, for your votes for my #1's clothing design.  She is in first place.

Looks like none of the central performances were the best of the season, but none if them were the worst performance to garner the award either...so they're is a decent chance all 3 would've received the award regardless. The more you know. Haha

Done. Maybe I can practice a little bit of Chicago style voting to give young Ozette an advantage ;D

Actually spent some time talking Wartburg v. Simpson in the gym yesterday down here in KC.

Two of the guys working out are IIAC boys. One was a former Wartburg BBall player (I told him I'd be more impressed if he'd been a wrestler at Wartburg  :D ) and the other was a Simpson football player. Both attended at the same time, back in the early 90's I believe they said.

Fun talking D3 at the gym! Even more fun because all three schools had played somewhat recently so it wasn't just random, non-asociated d3 chatter. Good guys...

Last night I mow part of my yard, which results in the Dubuque women beating Central 4-1 and Dubuque men beating Central 3-2 in futbol.

This has to be karma.  Take a guess at which poster on this board will be mowing another part of his yard Saturday morning before loading his family up for their trip to Dubuque  ;D

I'm trying to think of some new ways to say clichés about the Central Dubuque game.  Here is what I came up with.  The loser will be; a. - the first team to commit three turnovers, b. – the first team to accumulate forty yards in penalties against them, c. – the team whose quarterback is first to get sacked twice, d. – the first team to get behind by more than 10points, e. – the first team to have a kick blocked, or, f. – the first team to have a starter leave the game because of an injury.

Bold prediction for the week: winner of the DBQ/central game wins the conference w/ Coe coming in 2nd, the loser coming in 3rd.

I like your boldness and I'll second that prediction.
