Interesting new helmet logo on the Norse helmets for the Wartburg and Central games this year.  Looks like a rubber duck with a tent on top.  ;D

Luther's "new" helmet logo is it's old one from the 40's and 50's.  Luther is acknowledging 100 years of playing football this year.  It is intended to represent a Norseman tho look more like a Roman centurion perhaps.  Change came when name became Norse with the advent of women's athletics.
Much like Dutchmen to Dutch.

@Pat: you are the guru. Interesting rule ... I wonder how closely it's actually followed/enforced ???

Funny........and old time Spartans correct me if I am wrong........The Spartans have always been the Spartans for mens athletics BUT I THINK (want someone else to confirm), a long time ago in a galaxy far far away......some of the women's sports teams went by "Spartanettes"  ??? Am I dreaming this up or was it reality back when basketball shorts barely covered the private area  ;D

It's Thursday which means I get to watch football tonight to tease me for the weekend. Man, I can't wait for Saturdays match up! Coe is on a roll and have not been beaten in conference play dating back to 2011 when...........you guessed it, the Spartans invaded the Cedar Valley and came away victorious! I see an exciting atmosphere for Saturday and a new rivalry developing. Do you know what Coe and UD have in common? Both affliated with the Presbyterian Church.

Although my guess is that most Cohawks didn't know that and thus, God will be the 12th man on our side this saturday! He may be all forgiving but not when it comes to football!!!

GO SPARTANS!!!!

Willie U ...

From this "old time Spartan" ... there were no women's teams in the early to mid 60s.  I don't think I would have the stomach for Spartanettes either!

GO SPARTANS!

I would be careful DD. With the flu bug going around Eastern IA, you wouldn't want to expose anyone @ the wedding Sat ;)

Hmm, if this was a cousin or old high school friend getting married I think I might try to implement your plan.  With this being the brother of my wife...I think I might get in some major trouble if I tried to opt out  ;)

Now, if I can just make it through this 2pm wedding without the Mrs. discovering me on my phone instead of paying attention to the wedding  ;D

Don't cross the Mrs.  No one else wants to run the pickem.  You're taking one for the team.

That is the rule, though. You have a maximum of 10 regular-season contests plus a scrimmage. If you play five games on JV, you are not supposed to play more than five games on varsity. A regular-season contest limit is not just for teams, but also for individuals.

In reference to hazzben's comment about JV players playing on more than 10 games, some teams consider some of their JV games as scrimmages, I know Wartburg and a couple other IIAC teams play Iowa Central CC in JV games, and when they play Wartburg they don't keep score on the scoreboard, that way the Juco kids don't have to count it as a game.  However, other than keeping score, it is a full contact game.  Maybe that's how some kids play in more than 10 games per year.

Bulletin Board Material Story <here>

If they need this to be motivated for the game they are in trouble already.

Isn't bulletin board material something that is said or done by the coaches or players not by the student body?  ???

Win or lose we still booze!!

In addition to ten games, you get ONE scrimmage per year. This is not a legal end-around of the rules.

Old Dutch

DUTCH WIN!  huge goal line stand late, after a PI call in the endzone, block the game typing FG, returns the block for a 10 point margin. The Dutch defense is proving to be one of the best in the conference.  Probably is the best, but Warty fans would have an argument.  The offense is not holding up their end, but did got one good drive in for a score when it mattered.  Nice Win!
