Good day in the IIAC.

Again, central fails to improve upon last week leaving WAY too many points on the field. But a win is a win so can't complain too much. Look out if this team can ever put together a complete game (would be too little too late)

Did you get to watch the game during your playoff prep?

Saw none of it. Was getting text updates from my bro. Getting a little dicey toward the end. Had player meetings at 130 and then practice until 4 so right during the meat of the schedule. Got in car in time to get PBP of Simpson/Coe game from an ex redman and hear Wartburg go up by 2 games. Great day for the Knights. Made me forget about ISU. I think ISU has forgotten about ISU

I guess I just became a big fan of Central and Coe tonight.  It's not likely, but I can hope for a repeat of 2011.  Dubuque loses to Wartburg @ home and then sees the Knights lose 2 games at their home so the Spartans can win the conference by 1 game.  A man can dream.

Tough one to swallow. Congrats to the Knights. The Spartans can't get the Knight monkey off their back. Like D-Dog, I just became a HUGE central and Coe fan.

Great defensive battle. I would say the top 3 defenses in the league, UD, Wartburg, and Central.

To make matters worse, I go deer hunting after the game. Shoot a deer before dark, find my arrow and search for the deer for 2 hours and nothing. A day of disappointments.

But, I will live to hunt another day and the Spartans will pick themselves back up and fight on. Only thing they can do is control what they can and win the next 3 games. No easy but hopefully this game leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

I hope the Luther QB was not seriously injured today.  He went down late 3rd or early 4th quarter and was watching on crutches, but it looked like he was putting some weight on his injured leg/ankle.  Hate to see such a good player injured.  He took the high road, as in jumping over players trying to gain yardage and it looked like he came down wrong.  Nice to see Chris N at the game.  Such an inspiration.

Congratulations to BV on their long awaited first win and very well deserved the way they have been playing.

I didn't think the Dutch played bad today.  Yes, they did miss some scoring opportunities and had to settle with a FG  or FG attempt and many unsuccessful fourth down attempts.  On the flip side, both the offense and defense were ready to play and they both started out like a house of fire.  The Dutch recovered a fumble on the first Luther play from scrimmage and two plays later we had a TD.  Then some poor Luther kick returner is going to be spending the next week writing, "I will not try to run a kick out of the endzone after I muff the catch and the opposing team is only 3 yards away."  Another good defensive stand followed by a blocked punt for a safety and we were on the receiving end of the third kick of the game only 3minutes into it.  Add a punt barely making it to the line of scrimmage and another one over the punter's head and into the endzone for a Central TD and I would say special teams are still a strength for the Dutch.   Maybe we are missing some field goals and heaven forbid, after a missed extra point last week Sheldon was ONLY good on 96 of 98 extra points heading into the game, but I'm not ready to replace him just yet.  His FG misses have been in some strong winds.

Nice to have some UD fans on the Central band wagon, but I really liked it better when you did so because we were the conference rep in the playoffs.   ;) ;)

Congratulation to WB for getting back in the conference leader position.  Dang it all!   ;D  ;D ;D

After a night of tossing and turning I have come to realize that Wartburg will probably win out. I don't think Coe has the manpower this year to beat them and even though I think centrals defense can put up a good fight, I think wartburgs got the edge of offensive playmakers. That is why we play the games though. The Spartans won every stat in the game except the score. I expect a much better performance this coming Saturday against a talented Simpson team.

Warthog clan are the only Knight fans at Dubuque's Best Western.  We are enjoying the stay.

You can see Chalmers Field from here.  No UD flags at half staff so one must assume they have survived to fight another day.
