Very impressed by Wartburg on Saturday, congrats to the Knights on a solid year.  Very different team than BU saw in their opener...

When I looked at the roster and saw that Domeyer and Shrader are both only sophomores, I felt fortunate to not be in the IIAC the next couple of years....they will be quite a tandem!

Blue, Warthog is a stud and a Linfield fan.

Dutchfan1 is alive and well, but Windmill disappeared after you told him to go dancing in the town square with a tulip stuck up his azz.

Pacific has made great strides the last few years. Turning out to be a well coached, hard nosed team. They do loose a big chunk of seniors (38 I believe) that started with the program four years ago...so the jury will be out for next year.

I just watched the video clips from last week's D3 games in "Postgame Show."  All were pretty good except for the Bethel-Wartburg clip, which simply showed the highlights of Bethel's offensive efforts.  I can't believe the D3 Football folks would allow that to happen; made it appear like a cake walk.  Phooey!

Pat Coleman

You'd be surprised, Outside. About 95% of all the team-produce highlight clips show only one team's highlights. That includes the Mount Union-Wittenberg highlight reel in that same package.

That figure is probably accurate for all divisions.  Most SIDs haven't quite grasped the concept or compelling nature of drama.  The only team I follow that shows a lot of opponent highlights is North Dakota State but they probably feel more comfortable doing so since they rarely lose.

I noticed that the North Central - UW Plat. highilights were from both teams...I appreciated seeing what UW was doing well in addition to NC.

If you ask for game highlights, you ought to get game highlights.  If not, you ought not run it.  That'll change behavior quick enough.

Coe was the 1st school to release their 2014 football schedule.  The Kohawks showed they were playing @ Dubuque on Nov. 8th.  I was aware that Oct. 11th was the UD Homecoming game and I was curious to discover if that game would be against BVU or Simpson.  I sent a tweet to the UD SID, and emails to the BVU and Simpson AD's and asked if they could send me a 2014 schedule, or at least a partial schedule.  I got responses from all 3 within 30 minutes.  Very impressive, I thought.

UD tweeted back that they had just updated the UD website with the 2014 schedule.  The BVU AD replied they hoped to finalize the non-con portion of the schedule soon and would release the full schedule in the spring, and then gave me the conference portion of the schedule.  The Simpson AD replied that the Simpson SID would email me shortly with their 2014 schedule.

At that point I figured I might as well contact all the IIAC schools.  Since the Simpson AD mentioned their SID would contact me I figured I would send emails to the Central, Loras, and Luther SIDs.  (I left Wartburg out because I was told in the past they couldn't help me).  3 days later not even one SID ever responded.  I would not have been surprised if each of them had told me they could not release even a portion of the schedule, but to look for some sort of announcement in the Spring.  I am surprised that I never even got a reply from any of them.

In this day and age would Twitter and Facebook be a better option to get replies?  Young kids don't check old fashioned email these days?  All of them on some sort of holiday break? My email is broke and not actually sending out emails? Is it crazy to think you should at least get some sort of reply from an SID?

D3Dutchman

I would think you would at least get a response...but, not necessarily surprised you didn't  :'(

Since I'm sitting at home along with everyone else, I thought I would check out some live feeds of the games.  The Grandview semifinal game seems to have something akin to what Central trots out on Saturdays...low definition press box only view with the radio crew.  UMHB has a pretty professional looking product, albeit low def.  UWW has a heck of a product.  Theirs is high def, multiple camera angles, and has replay.  Not that much different than watching a game on TV.  It has the score, play clock, game clock, and down and distance.  I seem to remember Wartburg having a pretty nice product when I watched them take on the Dutch earlier in the year as well.

Don't get me wrong...we are playing with house money to have anything, but I'm curious if anyone knows if Central has any plans to upgrade.  I would think they would need to given their new video board...can't just have the crappy low def press box view on that thing, can they?  Also, anyone know what the cost is to put one of these broadcasts together?  Who has the best broadcast in the IIAC?  Who's is the worst?  Based on the one's I've seen, I would give the best to Wartburg and potentially the worst to Central.  Central isn't doing anything different now than they did years ago.  I remember growing up and watching the replays during the week on the local public access TV channel.  The only difference that I would think there is now is that they pay to put it on rented website live (or at least I assume their is some sort of charge for the website).  Oh yeah...UWW even has a hot blonde sideline reporter...wow.

Dubuque has had multiple camera angles and replays for a few years now.  Local radio crew doing the play-by-play.  Sounds pretty similar to what Wartburg had this year.  One thing I like that I think every school in the conference has, with the exception of Wartburg is the use of Stretch Internet.  The games are archived and you can watch them throughout the year.  Here is the Dubuque link. http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/dbq.portal#   Maybe you can take a look at the Central/Dubuque game and see if the production is similar to what you saw from the Wartburg crew this year.

Central, Coe, Loras, and Luther had 1 camera in the press box with a local radio guy doing pbp with maybe a color guy in the booth as well.  Bare bones production, but some video is better than nothing and the local radio guys did a credible job.  Simpson had 1 camera in the press box, that sometimes didn't actually follow the play, but they had what sounded like a student all by himself doing an excellent job with the pbp.  I can't remember ever checking into the BVU broadcast for football.  Wartburg sounds like they have a good product now.  Before this year, the two times I can remember tuning in to Wartburg there was 1 camera in the press box that often didn't follow the play and no audio at all.

Now, with BVU, Coe, and Dubuque releasing their schedules...if I can just get 1 more school to put their schedule out, we can extrapolate the rest of the conference slate for next season  ;)

A belated "Thank You" to mrs. doolittle for taking care of this year's Pick Ems.  She deserves some Plus K for that.
