Maybe they didn't read Kickoff.

Last Time Kick-off Predicted Coe to have a near .500 Record was 2012.. their only unanimous conference championship to date in their return to the IIAC.

Well, we didn't bring that writer back, either. :)

I see St. Olaf supposedly has 57 players on the roster (from the school website that was finally updated) and several of them are from Florida.  I wonder what happened to local recruiting around Northfield?

Olaf has had a pretty steady stream of players from the sunshine state for the past 12 years or so. Some of them have been very good as well, ala Horace Gant (sadly, no r in his name and no goggles under the helmet)  8-)

Hey guys, I am finally waking up and realizing the best day of the year has finally arrived!  Football for the Dutch starting tonight.  I'm not sure what to think of them.  The true Dutch fan in me wants to say the usual things, but the sad truth is they have not been the teams of old for some time.  They had a couple good years with Kac and Mac, but they weren't the Schipper years.  :(  Not that we should expect that, but being a Central fan, those expectations are kind of ingrained in me.

Last year was a 6-4 finish in an up-for-grabs conference race and very little experience returns for the defense.  Will this be another slip below winning season status?  Gosh I hope not, but I'm not going to predict a first place finish either.  In the past to not expect that was blasphemy.  I have not read the preseason reports and know very little about tonight's opponent.  On the road with an inexperienced defense, I just hope the offense keeps the defense off the field as much as possible.  Did hear that this year's freshmen class is extremely fast, that is great news for the future, but they are not experienced with college level ball yet.

Glad to be back and as always, Go Dutch!

Duhawks win!!

With a score of 39-17. Maurice Young led the defense with 3 interceptions on the day.

What a great start of the season. I was screaming at my computer from here in Colorado.

Go Duhawks!

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Central QB on crutches after 1st qtr injury.  Hope Eisler will be okay, not the way to start the season.  Crap!   :(

Dutch win 31-7 without Sr QB Eisler for 3 quarters.  Not bad, but maybe that says more about the competition than the Dutch, I'm not sure.  Like I said, I really don't know that much about them.  Larson is picking up right where he left off with a blocked FG attempt returned 68 yards setting up a pivotal TD on the next play.  Really turned the whole game on those 2 plays.

Luther has things to work on, but the Norse won 35-33 when they had over 400 yards rushing and 500 total yards against Presentation College.  Next up, Oles!

St. Olaf has Penz and the passing game, but Olaf lost to Northwestern 17-16.

Congrats to the IIAC winners this week.  I know Coe lost, but Wheaton might be tougher than some of the SEC opponents this week. ;D

Michigan, OSU, and Texas still do not play ball on both sides like programs that have the advantages that they have.

A couple good years?  Not exactly paying attention are we?

Klompen

Okay, a couple of good years wan an understatement.   ::)  And the truth is I have nothing but respect for Coach Mac.  He is a great coach and an even better man.  So I do sincerely apologize for understating the accomplishments.

At the same time, I really want to see Central back to the glory days and as a spoiled rotten Dutch fan, I don't have the patience that I should have.  LOL  I guess i was just having a bad day and on bad days, Central football can always make them better.

Very impressive start for Wartburg.  I think it's the first time I can ever remember Coach Willis smiling broadly after a game.  The margin (40-3) had to be devastating for Augsburg which returned an experienced and highly-regarded quarterback (Scott), a similarly-respected running back (Washington), and a lot of experience generally. In the conference's video Augsburg said they were well-prepared for Wartburg, and I think everyone in the overflow crowd (2800) expected the game to be more competitive.  So, one down on a pretty challenging stretch for the Knights.  Gotta keep the coach smiling.

Fannosaurus Rex

This old Central fan came away from the Benedictine game feeling a little better about the 2014 season.  The opponent wasn't Wartburg, but they were no cupcake.  Like any game, Central got a break or two and did some things right and some things wrong.  As it turned out, the things they did wrong didn't hurt them as bad as they will against better teams.  You never want to see anyone get hurt so I won't say that it is especially bad when it is your starting qb.  I hope that Eiseler is back under center soon, but based on what I saw Saturday night, Central can win with his replacements.  The thing that pleased me most, besides the score and Josh Osborne's performance at running back, was the fact that the Dutch only got penalized 3 times.  It seems like last year, every time they were on the verge of getting something going, they would false start or get called for an illegal formation or motion or some other dumb thing that just made me wonder what they were thinking.  I guess Dutch fans will know better where we are after Monmouth this week.
