I sure wish I had a way to get in touch with the people running the Central video to ask them to open the window so I wouldn't have to look at so much reflection.

You really didn't want to see the video anyway.  I was there live and had trouble watching it.  Central played a strong first half and had a 14 point lead.  The second half they simply self-destructed in every phase of the game except kicking, which we didn't get to see since they never had reason to kick.  The good news is that the QB was dressed and did warm up a bit when the game went down the tubes.

The difference to me was the coaching I guess.  Monmouth made great adjustments at halftime and came out firing on all cylinders.  Central could not make a first down to save their souls and the inexperienced defense was simply exhausted from being on the field nearly the entire second half.

The fireworks were great though.   ::)

Central didn't self-destruct. They were simply the less talented team and once Monmouth made the neccessary adjustments, Central had no shot.

I laid down for a nap and over slept the start of the season!

I'm not sure what to think, other than Wartburg looks really, really good.

I think Loras and Luther are improved.

BVU and Simpson still look like good teams.

No idea with Coe and Central.  I just haven't read anything about them.  I suspect they will be the usual teams they are.

Dubuque turned the ball over 6 times week one.  Bad result.

Dubuque lost by 5 @ top 10 ranked UW-Platteville.  UWP scored a TD on a fake field goal, scored another TD on a 4th and 8 play, and got a FG as time expired in the 1st half.  Not a bad result for the Spartans, though 0-2 is not how they wanted to start their season.

I will give you that.  I have never played the game, so I don't mind following someone else's example.  As a fan though, I am worried about the lower level of talent and our ability to make our own adjustments.  The positive note is that while Stochl has done a good job being thrust into starting position, it will be nice to have Eiseler back in the near future.

Couldn't disagree more. Central was the more talented team in my opinion. A simple display of 2 separate halves of the game. Monmouth played the last half, Central the first.

Thoughts on this weekends games.....

Luther vs. Grinnell - Luther's triple option will be too much for a poor Grinnell team, Luther by 3 scores

Central vs. Maranatha Baptist - Central must have desperately needed a game, this will be a glorified JV game, the score could be outlandish if the Dutch keep their 1's and 2's in the game.

Coe vs. Stevens Point - This is a tough game for the Coehawks, anytime you travel to a WIAC school you are going to have to play well. Coe has looked like they can put up points, can the defense stop the Pointer's is the question? Coe by 3

Simpson vs. Illinois Wesleyan - A year in and year out contender for the CCIW title, the Storm are going to have to put together and very good game. This is a major step up in competition from weeks one and two. Illinois Wesleyan by 14

ud vs. Pacific (Ore.) - ud played UWP very close last week, but turned the ball over multiple times in week one. Pacific is a good team from and tough conference (Linfield, Pac Lu) they went 7-2 last year. Whichever ud team shows will decided the outcome. Upset of the week Pacific by 6.

Loras vs Augustana -  Loras has shown that they have team that can play with teams out of two of the best conferences in the country (CCIW,WIAC) beating Elmhurst and losing a game that they should have won to UW-Stout. Augustana always presents a challenge because of the spread triple option.  If the Loras defense can tackle and not give up the big play it should be a good day for the Duhawks. Loras by 10.

Wartburg vs. UW-Stout - Wartburg proved last week that they are the real deal. UW-Stout struggled to beat Loras at home this past week. they are down to the second QB (who left the Loras game with a concussion). The Knights roll by 30+.

Next Week:
BV vs Waldorf - This is a game the the Beavers will win. It could also help them in recruiting in the north west part of the state. With two weeks to prepare for a bad Waldorf team, BV by 21+

Great post...keep it up, this is stuff I like to read!

Luther/Grinnell - what you said  ;D

Central/Maranatha Baptist - You have to be desperate to schedule a game if you're playing a team the Northern Athletics Conference kicked out for being uncompetitive!

Coe/Stevens Point - Hopefully we can have another IIAC win over a WIAC team.  Coe is talented but young.  And it's in Wisconsin.  Not sure Coe can pull out a W.

The UD/Pacific game will be interesting.  Like you said, whichever UD team shows up will decide the game.  I will note, that Pacific team that went 7-2 last year graduated 20 or so starters.  They beat a start-up NAIA program by 1 point earlier this season, and that is their only game so far this year.  My hope is a bunch of new starters, plus travel half way across the country, plus a motivated UD means the Spartans come out with a victory.

Loras/Augustana is a game I am interested in.  Loras has done an amazing turn around from last year to this year.  I want to see if they can continue.

Wartburg/UW-Stout - What you said

Next week - One thing I am curious about is this will be the 3rd game of the year for BVU, it will be the 6th game of the year for Waldorf!  With all that extra game action, this could be a close game or even a Waldorf win...or BVU rolls by 21+ like you say ;)

It's Coe's Homecoming, pretty sure they have Stevens Point at home.  Do any other schools recall having a Homecoming against a non-conference opponent?  Just seemed strange to me when I saw it on the schedule.

Last year Central played Albion for homecoming.

Good luck to all the IIAC teams today against non-con opponents.  I'll be following twitter feeds during my sons football game down in Marshalltown.  Whichever night games are on this week I'll try to follow along on my computer tonight.

Not at all unusual. Depends on when your homecoming is and how long your conference schedule is but not at all unusual to have Homecoming against a non-conference opponent.
