Central had one bright spot on Saturday and that was an exceptional fake hand off for a long TD to get things started.  That was the best play I have seen from Central in years and was executed flawlessly.

After that there were some missed opportunities, but Central will rarely be the better team on the field this year.  I think I said earlier that this could be the first season below .500 and I stand by that.  We do have some young talent with great potential, but they are young.  The defense has a lot of work ahead of them in closing holes big enough for an entire offense to run through.  I don't mean to be down on the Dutch, but my red blinders are a bit broken.  Someone asked how this team compared to last year's and right now, they are not as good.  Again, they have some excellent young players that will bode well for the future, but this is not going to be an easy year for us Dutch fans.  This will be the year that Satan has to shovel snow as the Dutch will actually look forward to the end of the football season and the start of men's basketball.  Schipper and Levick are gone and the schools are getting confused on their identity.

But I still love football the most, so am hoping those young players step up quickly.  You know, like the TD pass reception by Sam Markham in the second half.  Also have to give props to Eiseler who was back in starting QB shape at the start of the game and kept getting banged up and limping again, but kept going back in and made it to the start of the line for shaking hands after the game when he had to be hurting physically and emotionally.  Nice that his parents were there to see that awesome fake hand off TD though.

Best play you've seen in years? You must not watch much Dutch football because that wasn't even the best play of the game. Watch the replay and you will the Wartburg lb played it poorly (evidently his only poor play of the day) leaving a hole where there shouldn't have been one.

While the Hacks have had the Knights# the past few years, I think the Warts will be ready to continue their early season momentum. Not sure what to make of this Coe team yet; 2 losses to ranked teams & a couple of expected wins. My plans changed today so will have to watch @ the office rather than in person.

Central has now seen the top and bottom of what the conference has to offer. Will be fun to see how the rest shakes out.

I have been hard on my Dutch this year, so I am happy to be able to come here and say they very pleasantly surprised me today.  Great play on offense and defense, helped by Luther's butterfingers with the ball.  Great and easy win in a game I would have guessed we would lose.  Way to bounce back from a stinging loss last week.  Not sure what happened to Luther today, maybe they overlooked the Dutch based on how things have been going.  Sounded like Eiseler wasn't limping today and the return of Wachter at LB, allowing others to go back to playing their regular positions had to help.  I was curious as to how this team would bounce back and they did so with red and white flying colors.  I guess this teams doesn't want to be the one falling below .500.  Today was a major step forward.  Keep it up.

I have seen a ton of Central football having gone over 30 years missing a total of 2 games live and in person.  To this fan, the 56 yard TD was the best play fake, big play, TD scoring play I have seen in years.  Again going with the live and in person.  I didn't watch the replay so I didn't see the WB LB blow it.  Like most of the people in the stands, I was groaning when Osborn was tackled, believing he still had the ball, as did most of the people around me.  Central has not always been very deceptive on offense, but they sold that lock, stock and barrel.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Don't get me wrong, it was a good play, but it was made by 1 player not doing his job and to call it the best play in years is crazy. Like I said, wasn't even their best offensive play of that game.

Go to 8:25 and you will see many more plays that were far better (and this was just the first vid on YouTube):

It was great seeing the Spartans in white pants and blue jerseys.

Okay, those were some great plays.  Great examples of shedding tackles and making the right moves.  Maybe what I didn't make clear enough was what I loved so much about that play was the deception.  I went back and watched the highlights and the person running the camera fell for the fake just like the majority of us at the game.  He caught on about the time everyone else did, which was late enough that Eiseler had left everyone else in the dust.  I like seeing Central runners shed tackles as much as the next person, but when you fake the other team out so nobody is close enough to even make a diving tackle attempt, I call that a great play.  There may have been other great plays in the WB game, but I don't think it was Central making them...

What I saw today in Cedar Rapids was an old fashioned ass-kicking.  43-0

Knights dominated most of the game.  Coe ran a few successful long pass plays, but Wartburg kept them out of the end zone with a bend but don't break defense.  There was some serious hitting going on.  Play was stopped quite a few times to get downed Kohawks tended to.  Thankfully they all got back up and made it to the sidelines with assistance but without stretchers.

It was 43-0 for the last 18 minutes of the game.  I couldn't understand the reason that Coe starting quarterback #11 was still playing late in the game.   He was getting chased and banged up most of the day.  While #14 had played earlier for a few series there were 90+ players on the sideline, one of which might be a quarterback. You would think either #14 or another quarterback could use some reps and to keep #11 healthy.  Is trying not to get shutout that big of deal that you would risk your starter getting hurt and lost for the rest of your season?

That was a well played game yesterday in CR by the Knights.  Everybody did their job and they did it well.  Coach Willis has a winner on his hands again and hopefully can keep it chugging along.

Hoping for more of the same next week at homecoming.

Had the opportunity to watch the Central/Luther game in person and I was pleased with many things that I saw from the Dutch, but not still not sure where the Dutch will end up at the end of the year.  I'd like to think Central can get on a roll, but only time will tell.  Luther has a bright future and when they get a defense they will be tough.  It's hard to play from 2-3 scores down when you run the option.  Hopefully the Dutch will keep it going.  Wartburg won't be touched this year.  Quite a performance yesterday.  Hopefully they will represent the IIAC well in the postseason.  Go Dutch and Go IIAC!
