Always nice to visit with warthog when we make the trip to Wartburg.

Wartburg beats UD 42-9

2014 Wartburg Knights are good at football.

Central 41, Loras 14

Coe 35, Simpson 21  (I had Simpson #2 in my power ranking heading into league play, and they are now 0-3 in IIAC games)

Congrats to B.V. as they beat the Norse 48-41.  I was very happy to see the Norse Offense bounce back and run for over 400 yards again, but the Norse Defense was lit up for the 2nd straight week.  That would have been a big win if they could have found a way to sneak one out at Storm Lake.

Can B.V. finish in the top 3 in the league?

Followers of the Iowa and Luther don't feel as good about the ability to tackle and cover as the might have two weeks ago. :( :(

Congratulations to the Dutch on another win.  One more and my prediction happily goes down the tubes.  Won't bother me in the least.  Some things I don't mind being proven wrong on.   ;)  The Dutch have looked good the last two weeks, don't know if it is the competition or if the Wartburg loss gave them a kick in the backside.  Either way, winning is more fun than losing and looking bad doing it.  I continue to be really impressed with Sam Markham.  He is a real play maker.  It was nice to see someone who could be a deep threat for us.  Also good to see Sheldon make everything he attempted today.  The coaches and players look like they have done a good job turning things around again.  Just keep the focus, there is no easy day if you lose it.  Nice job Dutch.

I too hope Wartburg can go deep in the post season and bring a little respect back to the conference.  It would be nice to go back to having more than one team make the playoffs.

Great job by the Dutch on Saturday!  I also am continually impressed by the Knights!  Keep it rolling Dutch and Wartburg!  The IIAC needs some postseason success and Warty seems to be on the right track.

Regarding Fannosaurus Rex's comments on the Central game day experience.  The student section has been hijacked since the year 2000 or so when a certain athletic director took away all of the fun that the students were allowed to have.  Any cheer that was directed at opponents and anything that wasn't purely positive towards the Dutch was not tolerated and students began to reject this by just not coming out to support.  I personally witnessed students being removed from basketball games for yelling "dribble, dribble, dribble, shot!" when opponents were at the free throw line.  The President now stands in the student section (I appreciate his committment to engaging the students), but you can't/won't yell, taunt, etc. when the "boss" is 5 feet from you.  You add in a poor product (by Dutch standards) intermittently over the past 5-6 years and the students and community find other things to do for fun.  Just my 2 cents.

Go Dutch and Go IIAC!

Well I picked half of the games right (Wartburg and Central winning).  Looks like Coe was not happy getting shut out by Wartburg last week.  Wartburg looked impressive, big plays all day long.  Here are highlights for anyone interested:

Not sure what is up with Luther, but it will be tough for them to win games if they keep allowing 47+ points to IIAC schools.  It will be interesting to see how "Beat Luther" week goes on campus with fall break this Thursday and Friday and how much student support shows up on Saturday.  Looking forward to another big win for the Knights, but from a former Spring Grove Lion it is also fine by me if Luther's Elton and Olerud have themselves a good game....just not a win.

Wartburg (3-0) vs. Luther (1-2)
Buena Vista (3-0) vs. Dubuque (1-2)
Central (2-1) vs. Coe (2-1)
Loras (0-3) vs. Simpson (0-3)

Central/Coe, one moves to 3-1 while the other goes to .500; Loras/Simpson, one team will be going 0-4 to start off conference play

I'll take Wartburg, Buena Vista, Central, Simpson

Wartburg is playing for playoff seeding now.  Shouldn't too much suspense in the outcome in Waverly.
BVU with their passing game should probably be the favorite.  Dubuque playing at home might be able to sneak out a win.
Central @ Coe should probably be considered the game of the week.  I'll pick the home team
Loras @ Simpson.  Loras offense is improved over last year.  Simpson still wins this going away.

COE ..Central.    DUTCH defense should do it.

BV...UD.   Spartans still in a slide this year.   Defense is hurting. Can,t stop Bobby Brown.

Warts..Norse.  Knights are too powerful for Luther......but the Wartburgs mid-season hex could produce a surprise,
however unlikely.

Loras...Simpson.  Duhawks will still be liking for a conference win.

This is the best Wartburg team I have seen. That offense is just crazy explosive, and the defends seems to feed off of their energy. I really think they have a shot to make a deep run.

Great job Loras!! Winning today 27 - 24

Congrats to the Dutch on a great win!

Way to go Dutch, happy to be proven wrong on my earlier prediction.  What can I say, the coaches and players have really stepped things up after losing focus in the Monmouth second half and Wartburg second quarter.  Now if we could just stop allowing a TD after every turnover, or stop making the turnovers, things would be great.  Happy to see the Dutch fully rebounding and very happy that there are so many young talented players on the squad.  It bodes very well for the future of Central football.

I have to agree with the Dutch radio announcers, the athleticism of Markham has me thinking that basketball season could be another fun one.

Wartburg hangs 52 on Luther today and in the process looks like pikers compared to many of the other top 25 teams.  People piling 60 to 70 or more on other teams wasn't uncommon today.  I guess I'm glad Wartburg called off the dogs and were happy with the 52 they had at the end of the 3rd quarter.  I'm not sure that scoring another 14 or 21 on the Norse would prove anything.
