Good luck to the Central Dutch tomorrow and to the Pella Dutch Thursday night as they play for the state championship.  Since Central will be done playing by then, it would be fun to see the Central team supporting Pella at the dome Thursday night.  I heard the team listened to the Pella/Washington game last Friday on the way up to BV.  I watched the semi-final last night on TV and the names sounded very Central-like.  Here is hoping some of the team decides to do a SE Polk like continuation at Central as they graduate over the next couple of years.

Good luck to all the non-Wartburg players who will be playing their last game tomorrow.  The weather doesn't sound very good, so I'm guessing Doolittle won't be in Pella for a bakery run before the game.  At least with snow predicted that lucky lawn mower might stay out of action.

D3Dutchman

Hope the Dutch finish strong today. Seems like a shame to have lost the Monmouth game now more than ever (Monmouth proved to be a quality team the rest of the way).  I think one loss to the Knights would have been enough (obviously assuming a victory over the Spartans today...no easy task).  I guess you can't lose to a MWC team and expect to get any mention as a 2 loss Pool C contender.  My guess is that there will be teams in the field that are not as good as the Dutch.  Congrats on a solid season either way.  Here's to Wartburg making a nice run to get some IIAC street cred back.

Agreed, D3Dutchman, I was not real hopeful for Central after Monmouth.  They just simply fell apart.  I guess everyone has an off game, or half, but that loss really is one these kids will regret.  Sorry that the seniors who stepped up and proved they were better than that won't get a playoff shot.  Just goes to show you have to play the full 60 minutes with focus if you want a chance to prove yourselves when the regular season ends.  A hard lesson, but one that will be good for the younger players on the Dutch team to remember.

Trying to psych myself up to freeze this afternoon, then move on the basketball tonight.  Saw the season outlook for that.  It didn't mention Sam Markham, I am sure hoping that is ONLY because he hasn't had a chance to practice with the team.  I know back-to-back sports are hard in college, but he sure has the talent.  It would be a shame to not use it to the fullest.

Doolittle, if you are crazy enough to come to town today, I will be in the back row of the Central main bleachers near where they are doing the press box filming.  Of course I will be wearing red and white.  While that may not narrow it down much, I will likely be the only non-mother female out there in this weather.  I could wear a sign that says I'm not a mother, just crazy.  LOL

My wife took our daughters to a concert on the Quad Cities last night and our son spent the night at a friends house. After all that excitement it looks like we are staying warm and dry at home today ;)

Here's hoping for a well played game by both teams this afternoon. A game the seniors will love to talk about years from now.

Even at 9-1 central would've had a tough time getting a birth. Not a single marquee win, and the IIAC is no longer seen as a strong conference.

Central with perhaps their best effort of the year tearing apart DBQ 38-7 to claim sole possession  of 2nd in the league. Solid year for the Dutch. It'd be nice to be able to get another crack at Wartburg... I still think they lose, but it would obviously be a much more competitive game. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes.

Congrats to the seniors, way to over achieve.

To the underclassmen, please stick around and build off the momentum created this season and get Central back where they belong.

Edit: just got a look at the stats... Wow, great all around effort by the Dutch.
Also, unless my math is wrong, Josh Osbourn and the Dutch Oline surpassed Dylan Barrett to finish the season #1 in rushing yards. That, along with 14 TDs puts him in the discussion for offensive MVP in the league.

Osborn had a lights out game today, of course, he also had a ton of carries.  It was a fantastic finish to a season that could have gone either way and senior leadership really stepped up to the plate to make it a great season.  There is a lot of young talent returning.  Expectations should be high for the Dutch next year.  I want to replay the Monmouth game, WB would be a fun replay as a substitute for not making the playoffs.  I also don't think we would win, but we are playing much better now than early and Eiseler was not 100% then.  Great way to finish the season Dutch.  It may not be the playoffs, but at least you got to finish with a win this way.

Good luck to the Knights.  Represent us well.

On to basketball, and for the Dutch fans, it looks like it could be one heck of a good season.  Top two scorers graduated, Sam Markham and Mitch Boerm still playing football today and Dutch shatter school single game scoring mark in the first game of the season.  If you are a Dutch fan, you might want to watch this year.  Prior record was 124 points.  Dutch scored 132 tonight in regulation with one of the leading returning scorers from last year's team in foul trouble most of the night.  Ah, the end of football might be survivable.

Not to keep hopping on BV's offensive train but if I were to vote I would probably even give BV's Gunner Gilland a vote ahead of Centrals RB Osborn. Gilland lead the league in scoring and was 2nd in receiving yards despite being double covered throughout the year. While he was 2nd in receiving yards in conference play to Loras' Ecans who has probably twice the targets Gilland had. In order to recognize the offensive season BV had I would give the offensive MVP voting as: 1) QB Bobby Brown 2) Gunner Gilland 3) Dylan Barrett/Josh Osborn 4) Nate Evan

Thats a lot of love for a tied for third 5-5 team who got shut down by an average Coe defense this week.  Wartburg should have at least two candidates for O-POY and D-POY.  Osborne and Edelman should get discussions in both but ultimately I think all the awards go to the Knights, they were head and shoulders above the rest of the conference.  (Boy I hate saying that!) :P

Loved watching Josh run, he is an exciting and hard nosed back, 4th in career yards at Central puts you in awfully good territory, behind only Mark Kac, Don Taylor and Vance Schuring is definitely a lofty ranking.  Congrats to all Central Seniors for making this a standout season.

You do realize BV finished 5-5 correct? Josh had 1300 yards and 15 rushing TDs for a team that finished 8-2 and in second place. BV was beat (many times soundly) by the only decent teams they played. The only person the should challenge Osbourn would be schrader.

Not to mention, Central finished ahead of BV in scoring offense as well, so what you have is a better team, with a better offense, and a player with better stats.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing any of the BV players mentioned, they are fine players. Just follows logic the MVP wouldn't be from a team that lost 5 games while averaging 14.8 points in those games.

Wow!
St. Thomas instead of Macalester. Big difference. I hope Wartburg gets to Salem. I think this is their best chance ever.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
