Did all that rain damage anything at Wartburg?

Carl Coleman is the new DC at Dubuque.  Mr. Coleman was the DB coach at Central in 2012-2013 and coached at a high school last year before making the move to University Ave.  He replaces Mike Schmidt, who became the DC at UW-Platteville.

Just curious, but with the start of the Canadian Football League this week, are there any players/coaches with a D3 pedigree...seems like a likely place for anyone who couldn't make it on an NFL Roster

I know there are some D3 vets on CFL rosters, but haven't heard of any IIAC alums that played up north.

I wonder if D3 alums have decent post playing days job options and knew going in to their college career that they would get 4 more years to play the game they love and then transition into the regular Joe work force?

For the next 3 years I will be spending most fall Saturdays watching my son play youth football.  That gives the IIAC schools 3 years to put in something like this for their visitor side seating so I can watch IIAC play and stay dry.  They can feel free to look into space heaters, visitor side concessions and restrooms as well ;)

That's an interesting thought...either a D3 player with a science, business or education degree from a small school has more job options than a D1-AA player with an sports management or general studies degree...or a D3 player with no scholarship to a small school can't make student loan payments while making 1K per month on a AFL or CFL roster?  Might be an interesting economic/statistical study.

P.S.  Nothing against anyone with a sports management or general studies degree, that just seems like the most popular degree among D1-D2 scholarship football players and I needed an example. :P

That got me stoked.  I especially like it when other teams' highlight films don't include any plays against Central.

Not football related, but Ashford University in Clinton is closing.

AIB in Des Moines earlier this year, and now Ashford in Clinton will be closing down.  Neither school had football, but they did have athletic departments.  Have we, or will we see any of these kids transfer in to IIAC schools?  Are any other Iowa private schools experiencing enrollment issues?  Is this a culling of the herd of weak links in the food chain, or are we looking at additional schools in the near future close to home?  Iowa Wesleyan?  Any others?

Perhaps legalities hastened Ashford's closure

http://wqad.com/2014/05/16/7-25-million-settlement-reached-to-settle-fraud-claims-against-ashford-university/

  • Ashford University denies wrongdoing but will pay $7.25 million to settle claims that recruiters lied to convince prospective students to enroll in online classes.  Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller alleged Ashford University and its parent company, Bridgepoint Education Inc., violated Iowa's Consumer Fraud Act by withholding some information, using high-pressure sales tactics, charging huge non-refundable fees and making misleading statements to convince prospective students to enroll in online classes.
  • "Our investigation found what we allege was troubling conduct by Ashford recruiters, including misleading prospective students to encourage them to sign on the dotted line," Miller said.  "Unfortunately for many Ashford students, they didn't get the degree they hoped for or the job they were led to believe they'd get after graduating.  What they did end up with was a crushing amount of student loan debt."

  • Schools with Low Return on Investment and Deceptive Sales Tactics - Ashford University was found to have problematic recruiting practices, low spending on academic instruction and no job placement services.
  • Lawsuits Filed Against For-Profit Colleges - Ashford University has been under investigation with the California Attorney General's office, which ordered the university's parent company, Bridgeport Education, to produce thousands of records in an study of false advertising complaints.
  • Schools in Hot Water for Financial Aid Practices - Ashford University was found to have unlawfully retained student aid money in an audit performed by the Education Department's Office of Inspector General. The audit shows that Ashford failed to return more than a million dollars in federal aid that was awarded to students who eventually withdrew.
  • Schools at Risk of Losing Accreditation - Ashford University was denied accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 2012, but made changes in recruiting and faculty to win accreditation with the agency in 2013, which will last at least through 2018.

On that note ... anyone here old enough to remember when Bradley University played football?
