Dubuque beat Central 38-16
Central scored 10 points on their 1st two drives. Then didn't score again until there was 0:00 left on the clock. Central called time outs with 12 seconds left and 4 seconds left to get that last TD.
Oh well, I guess.
Dubuque finishes 7-0 conference play and waits for tomorrow to find out their playoff opponent.
Yeah I didn't get that either except that I will say that after the second time-out, for some irrational reason, I actually started to care and was glad when they scored. Don't ask me why.  Thank goodness no one was hurt for nothing.  So two observations, 1- UD's football stadium, and all of that side of campus are really nice.  I'm glad I finally got there even if it was for a lousy game.  At least the weather and the drive over and back were pleasant.  And 2-I can't remember another football game I ever saw where neither team punted.

Of course in UD's case, they scored every time they had the ball and in Central's case, why would you punt to a team you know you can't stop?  Still...rare not to see a punt.

The more I think about it, I think I would have done the same thing in Central's shoes.

Always nice to hear compliments regarding the UD campus.  It was considered a bit of a joke for many years, so us old guys appreciate the good word.  Would have been nice to meet you, but we had one child celebrating a birthday and another  child with a swim meet in Des Moines.

I will watch the webcast now.  Off the top of my head, I can't think of a game I've seen without any punts.

SJU is one of my bucket list destinations...though I doubt my wife lets me drive to Minny next week.  Hopefully Dubuque can give you a challenge this go around.

Congrats on your sons team making it to the playoffs.  This is a very good year for spurrier!

Should have made the drive up in September.  Will be a little different atmosphere at 25 degrees with  a smaller crowd.

Outside the Crate

Boo.  Hiss.  The Iowa Conference gets treated poorly again in the playoff picture.  UD, as the conference champ, should not have to travel to the MIAC's # 2. I still think Wartburg was as viable a choice for a Pool C bid as Ohio Northern or Whitworth.

It's been a wonderful journey with a large group of outstanding seniors, particularly Logan Schrader, Robbie Anstoetter, Brandon Domeyer, Gunner Tranel, and Grant Zimmerman (those I know best).  All are really fine players who have displayed outstanding character.  They and their fellow seniors will do well in life!
