Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.  I,m at home with a great dinner coming.

Comment:   With an ACT acceptance rate of 19 compared to Coe and Luther at 26, Wartburg at 24,  we should expect Dubuque to dominate IIAC in all events for the next few years.

Good thing Dubuque, as a mission, strives to accept immigrants, minorities, 1st generation college students, and those often overlooked by elite schools.  Because of that mission and not looking solely at test scores they were able to bring in Joe Chlapaty, the son of immigrants, from an urban high school without many advantages of other schools fell into that category.  From someone that would not have been welcomed at Coe, Luther, or Wartburg he found himself at Dubuque and used the education he received there to become the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.  He has been generous enough to donate millions to Nationwide Children's Hospital, Lutheran Services, Marietta College (his sons alma mater), and over 70 million to his alma mater, the University of Dubuque.

Thankfully for UD, those elite schools missed out on the likes of Joe Chlapaty and will miss out on many more to come over the coming years that might end up at Dubuque because those schools look more towards ACT scores than the potential a prospective student has.

And you know, if those kids are also athletes that bring in more championships to Dubuque, all the better  ;D ;D ;D

Well said!  A good example of the articulateness, insight, and inclusiveness developed by the liberal arts education of UD.  Even if I am the one handing out the accolades, that is worth +karma.

What a great story.  Attended Central, holds down a regular job, sends his kids there as well, coaches at the place he loves for 35 years. What a wonderful life

I voted for Logan Schrader...that should earn me a beer, or a brat...or both at the next Wartburg/UD tailgate  ;D

There is no doubt about that, but you need to show up so we can pay up.  You can't be AWOL and expect to be rewarded.  ::)

I apologize, Phred was just having fun and I blabbered on about Dubuque. Different schools serve different missions. While you can receive a fine education at all of them, it is up to the individual to make the most out of his/her opportunity. And I will say, some schools will have a disadvantage  on the athletic side, if they are limited in in those that will be accepted.

Will I be happy if my school adds to their trophy case? You betcha ;)

Now comes the time of year where I concentrate more on basketball and hope to find football recruiting info from time to time.

Don't spread that stuff over on the WIAC board. They do not think state colleges, whose mission is to educate the masses, and therefore should, and do, accept those a bit down the academic ladder, have no advantage when it comes to fielding better athletic squads, due to the wider range of students they can recruit. You will be called a lot of names. Don't know why they think that's some kind of nastiness, but they seem to.

That's not the case at all.  No one has ever said that our ability to recruit students that may not be able to academically get into some private schools isn't an advantage.  What everyone has said is that we don't recruit from the general student population.  That's an entirely different discussion and it surprises me you can't differentiate between the two.

Then I, in turn, am surprised that you never understood that what I said above, is what I said initially.
