Congratulations to the four Wartburg Knights players selected to the D3football.com All-West Region Team: Chase Wilhelms G, Logan Pitz CB, Will Janssen LB, and Grant Zimmerman P.  This is the largest number of players selected among IIAC teams.  Well deserved honors boys.

Anybody out there with insider knowledge to the 2016 schedule?  Coe has released theirs, but that is it as far as I can find.

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

This great for these guys! But someone tell me how Logan Schrader doesn't make a team? Insane.

Pat Coleman

Well, the simple answer is that he wasn't among the three best quarterbacks in the West Region. The West was stacked this season -- even the WIAC offensive player of the year, a QB, didn't make the team.

From the Iowa Conference rule book...

http://www.iowaconference.com/documents/2014/8/4/IIAC_FB_Sport_Regs_Jul2014.docx?path=football

From the rules...
1.9.   All football teams shall have two sets of jerseys, one set to be dark and the other white. The dark color must be one that contrasts with the color of the ball. The dark color shall be worn at home.

The part about "The dark color must be one that contrasts with the color of the ball".  Could you argue Nebraska Wesleyan, with brown uniforms, their home jersey could be considered to not contrast with the color of the ball???

1.12.   The host school shall provide film review capabilities in the officials' locker room or suitable location prior to each contest

What would this be for?

1.7.   Marching bands shall be admitted free to football games.

Rex should like that rule  ;)  Question - Could UD bring a band to Pella and Central would have to let them in for free???

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

If I was any IIAC athletic director I would let any visiting band in to a game for free and, if I liked the half-time show, I would buy them each a hot dog and a coke.

Central should definitely let opposing team's bands in for free.  It would automatically increase the game day atmosphere down there by 1000 percent.  Normally I would commend pep band members for volunteering their time, but they should all seriously just stop playing music. I don't even think they're all students.

I'm embarrassed for Central and what they are trying to pass off as an event.  If I was a recruit that wasn't impressed by the history of that program (one that is seemingly in the rear view mirror), I'd be hard pressed to get excited about spending 4 years on those sidelines.  I mean, I've gone to multiple games the past few years folks, and I'd be the first one celebrating a fun and engaging atmosphere...but it's just not, and that hasn't always been the case.  I'd honestly write a letter if I thought anyone down there cared. Seriously, does anyone know what's going on in Pella?

Congratulations to Wartburg senior OL Chase Wilhelms on being named 1st Team D3football.com All American. What a terrific and well-deserved honor.

In response to the Central College atmosphere.....I think there are multiple reasons for this.  1.  Performance of the program has suffered in the last few years.  I played for the Dutch from 1997-2000 and we lost 1 home regular season game and 2 playoff games at home, so that level of success hasn't been in Pella since mid 2000s, and that was only after the slump that ensued with Kac after the 2000 season.  2.  Administration changes.  An athletic director took away every ounce of fun students had at games as they were not allowed to yell anything but positive comments and couldn't even yell "shot" at basketball games when another team was shooting free throws.  Students just quit going to all events at that time.  Currently, the President of the school sits with the students in an attempt to be "one of the guys", but its a bit hard to drop choice language or heckle opponents when the man who signs your diplomas is 5 feet away.  3. I do think there are brighter days ahead for Central and that will help.  New updates are occurring and coming soon.  Marry that with some success on the field and I think the environment will change.

On a different note, I'm amazed at how D3 has changed.  I was an all-conference and all-american at Central and I'd be about 35-40 pounds undersized now for my position.  I watched the Stagg Bowl from this year and caught highlights of the 2003 Stagg Bowl while looking through the MIAC page, and there is a tremendous difference in the size, speed, recruiting, etc. in those 12 years.  I couldn't distinguish St. Thomas/Mount Union from a MAC/lower tier major conference school with the size and speed they had out there. I don't know if the D3 philosophy (authored by Dr. Ken Weller of Central College) intended for things to be this way (athletics driving these small schools, recruiting nationwide, spending millions on facilities, huge coaching staffs, etc), but it sure seems to be that way now.  Schools have a choice to make....use the extracurriculars to attract students and thrive or face declining enrollments.

Merry Christmas IIAC and Happy New Year!

I keep hearing about the slump under Coach Kac and how a change was needed.  He pretty much got ran out of town for one 5-5 season.  For how Coach Kac was treated, he seemed to have had more success than his successor.

I wish I could help you out but, since you have found the Central website, you now know as much as I do about the program except for the 10 or 15 home games I went to as a student and the 10 or 15 homecoming games and  not too far road games I have been to since.
