Travis Rundle, defensive coordinator at Illinois Wesleyan University
Mike Schmidt, defensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville
Brent Schroeder, head coach at Caledonia (Minn.) High School
Jim Zebrowski, mostly recently an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota.

Mike Schmidt is an alum of UW-L so that might be his way in there.  That might help with some of the restrictions they seem to have up there.  He has been a strong recruiter.  As a Dubuque fan I think I would rather have him way up there instead of 15 miles away in Platteville.

A tragic ending to a young life. The article states the Milwaukee kid just made Dubuque his college choice after making a visit last saturday, then ends his own life less then a week later.

Except for terminally ill people who choose their own death, suicides rarely make sense.  But this one seems more senseless than most.  Please keep us updated if any clarifications come out.

What a sad story.  A teenagers life can be such a mystery.  It would seem he had a very involved mother and coach, and no one could see this coming.  You feel sad for such a young life ended so early, and the potential he had to make an impact in this world.  You also feel sad for the loved ones he left behind, and the grief they must be feeling now.  Maybe with this news, if there were any other kids at that school also fighting their own battles with depression, this could be the impetus they need to go to a loved one and ask for help.

I wonder if off-campus recruiting of juniors would be a waste of time.  When I talk to kids and parents it was usually they got involved with the D3 schools once they figured out D1 and D2 schools weren't going to sign them.  And that was typically early fall of their senior years.

Though, if a coach is visiting a school, or at a recruits house and there is a junior in that same school/town that they have been made aware of, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to start that relationship early.

The 4 kids from our local school that were freshman at Wartburg last fall all had a signing day where the local paper took their pictures signing a "Letter of intent" it was in the paper and on the schools facebook page and twitter account.  Though not shown on any Wartburg social media site...just from the high school side of things. It will be interesting to see if IIAC schools start to play up recruits signing "letters of intent" on their social media sites.

Good for them, D3 kids put as much time and effort into their athletic career as D1 and D2 kids, I see no reason to exclude them and not let them have their moment.

It is still against Iowa Conference rules to do that. Each school is allowed to publish a list online of names of students that have deposited twice a year. They can't include any other information about the kid other than maybe a hometown and high school.

I'm just excited when D3 football gets a little love, especially in the off-season...and in reference to the NAIA...I only admit those teams exist when they switch to NCAA and join the IIAC...lol  ;)

No, I hear ya. I just wanted to give you a hard time. Definitely love that they included D3 in this type of list, that's very cool.

And the NAIA dig made me chuckle. Well played  :)

The UD Admissions Office tweeted that Dubuque kicker Curtis Prull has been invited to the NFL Combine.

Who knows, this could be some preliminary scouting camp or pro day or something.  Still, good news to see an IIAC players is on the radar of the NFL.
