http://www.iowaconference.com/news/2016/8/25/FB_2016CoachPoll.aspx

1.   Dubuque (5) 58
1.   Wartburg (2) 58
3.   Central (2) 55

6.   Simpson 32
7.   Nebraska Wesleyan 24
8.   Luther 16

Sure like that poll better than what the Kickoff  Experts are prognosticating.  loss of DeWaard is a worry but the offense could be a power this year.

If enough people say they want to do the Pick'ems, I (my wife) could run it.  I just wasn't sure enough posters wanted to do it.

I'm in if there are others interested

I'm pretty skeptical of Kickoff's predictions for the IIAC this year too. My model likes Central for second in the IIAC. I'm giving them 75% odds of having another winning record.

Howdy,

Just looking to see if anyone here is interested in participating in the West Region Fan Poll? I have a few spots to fill if any IIAC fans are looking to join. All that's required is send me your top 10 west teams each week, then I'll post the groups' results in the West Fan Poll thread. Please send me a PM if interested.

Much appreciated, and best of luck to everyone's teams this season.  :)

The work week is dragging along, and then you remember IIAC football starts this weekend...

Everybody is getting all jacked for their alma maters to start the season this weekend, but Wartburg probably still has three or four practices left of their preseason camp. This Week 1 bye business is torture.

It sure is. Hated it the last two years for Bethel. Plus, I think the disadvantage of not having played yet when you line up for your first game against a team with one in the books outweighs the advantage of them having no new film on you.

How big of an advantage it was for Wartburg to have played MacMurray before those Bethel games though is arguably small. I think in one of those games Wartburg had eight different RB's with carries. The extra week of practice and getting accustomed to game week prep was probably a bigger help than the game itself.

If anyone is interested, there is an IIAC pick-ems this year.  Head over to the pick-ems page and make your picks.

Oh, I wasn't trying to make excuses for Bethel. But I think live game conditions are invaluable, regardless of the opponent. Plus that extra week of practice/camp is crucial as well.

Most important for a team hoping to make a playoff push, it's nice to have the bye mid-season to rest some guys up and get some guys back from injury. That lack of a bye was rough on BU last year. We had an unusual number of injuries. Not sure how much a bye would have helped, but I'd wager it would have made some difference.

Saturday's almost here!  :)

Since Wartburg is idle in Week 1 I have been forced to get my football fix from another direction this week.  In searching for games to take in I noticed something kind of fun...3 former Wartburg coaches will be in action in B1G Ten play this week.  Mike Tressel, Wartburg OL coach (97-00) and OC (01) is the Co-DC at Michigan State along with Andrew Hawken Wartburg LB Coach (13-14).  And Eric Koehler Wartburg OC (02-05) and HC (06-07) is the Co-OC at Miami of Ohio, who plays at Kinnick this week.  Kind of fun to see some guys that used to stalk the sidelines in Waverly on my HDTV on Saturdays!

Styles clash in Eagles' season-opener

QuoteTHREE THINGS TO WATCH

NEW OFFENSE: Under new coach Mike Schmidt and offensive coordinator Jake Landry, the Eagles' offense will certainly be hoping to improve on the 15.3 points per game last year's group scored. Quarterback Tarek Yaeggi, making his first start for UW-L, will be a big factor in that. If Yaeggi and his veteran group of receivers can make a few big plays, the Eagles should be able to score on Luther's defense.

TRIPLE OPTION: Luther's attack is old-school, but it can be effective. UW-L's new 4-3 defense will need to be sound in its gap discipline and its tackling to have success in slowing the Norse down. All four of the Norse's top runners from last season's team, including Christian Moore (151 rushes, 1,040 yards, 14 TDs) and Brady Letney (200, 679, 11).

FIELD CONDITIONS: Northeast Iowa had bad flooding last week after nearly 8 inches of rain fell in one night. Norse players helped place sandbags on homes near rivers, but the team's scrimmage against UW-Stevens Point was moved to Stevens Point. It's been mostly dry this week in Decorah, but it may hamper things if the field is muddy.
