looks like the Coe - Central is the game of the week.  Coe looks like a winner.  Have to pick soon.

Nice talking to y'all.

Sarcasm perhaps?  this board has been deathly quiet for the most part.  The Warty fans are doing a little hibernation, Coe Nation is waking up a bit as is our Dutch Followers.  How about a Coe Joke to get things started:

A Kohawk senior walks into a bar wearing a stovepipe hat, a waistcoat and a phony beard. He sits down at a bar and orders a drink. As the bartender sets it down, he asks, "Going to a party?"

"Yeah, a costume party," the man answers, "I'm supposed to come dressed as my love life."

"But you look like Abe Lincoln," protests the bartender.

"That's right. My last four scores were seven years ago."

In other news, I can finally pass out karma and upload an avatar. I'm pretty excited about my avatar, but I doubt Coach Willis would approve.

Last weekend the Dutch unveiled their secret weapon at running back.  My red and white glasses tell me that this week they will unveil new secret weapons at punt blocking on special teams, turnover creating on defense and invisible cling on gloves on offense.  Coe won't know what hit them.

Go Dutch!

Sure sign of the apocalypse.  Central Dutch half time show is sponsored by a brewery.
I was in town for homecoming and picked up two six packs of Peace Tree Brewing's product and patronized the Royal Amsterdam all in appreciation for their sponsorship of Central sports broadcasts.

Fann - thanks for supporting the businesses that support our coverage of Dutch athletics.  It's greatly appreciated by all involved!!

Game previews from the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald...

From the article...

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN (2-3, 1-2)
AT NO. 23 DUBUQUE (5-0, 3-0)
Kickoff: 1 p.m. at Chalmers Field
Radio: WVRE-FM 101.1
Last year: Teams did not meet
Last week: Dubuque beat Central, 35-17; Nebraska Wesleyan beat Luther, 27-24
Outlook: The undefeated Spartans welcome the Iowa Conference newbies — the Prairie Wolves. NWU is fresh off its first IIAC conference win after beating Luther, but the task will be a little taller with Dubuque now cracking the rankings and boasting the best passing offense in the conference. The Spartans are also coming off their most impressive win of the season, handing Central its first loss in Pella. They have won 10 straight conference games, and won't be looking to stop the steamroller this week.

LORAS (0-5, 0-3) AT WARTBURG (2-2, 1-1)
Kickoff: 1 p.m. in Waverly, Iowa
Radio: None
Last year: Wartburg beat Loras, 49-34
Last week: Loras lost to Buena Vista, 34-24; Wartburg lost to Coe, 37-34
Outlook: The 2016 season has been a rough go for the Duhawks. They are the second worst scoring offense and give up the second most points in the IIAC, and last week's loss to then-winless Buena Vista was a vignette of how things have gone at the Rock Bowl. Loras led, 10-6, at halftime before surrendering 21 third-quarter points. That's the third time the Duhawks blew a halftime lead this season. The Knights, who were ranked all season a year ago, are also looking to put a tough loss behind them. They own the second best scoring defense in the IIAC.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

The Cedar Rapids Gazette with a good write up on Coe playing Central in the middle of a tough 3 week test.

Wartburg and Loras sound like they are going to be in a shoot out.  Loras can do that pretty well, maybe my long shot pick-em will work out.

Central working on improving the turnover ratio.  Coe helps us by having their interceptions leader ejected from the game in the first two minutes of the game.  Central ahead of Coe 10-0.  Go Dutch!

Dutch blow coverage on a run of 82 yards.  Now Central 10 Coe 6.  Extra point was no good.

At the half...

Dubuque leads 20-10 over NWU
Luther leads 17-14 @ Simpson
Coe leads 16-10 over Central
Wartburg leads 35-14 over Loras

Dutch offense has to stop sputtering.  Central defense has to find an answer for Coe's RB.  Dutch usually stronger in the second half, so still think they can pull it out, but the offense really needs to find something again.

Coe twitter feed says the targeting call has been reversed and he is now eligible to play the 2nd half.

Central scores on the opening drive of the second half.  Central 17-Coe 16.  This one will probably go down to the wire.

Forgot to mention, the Coe defensive player is back in the game.

What's the Central offense favorite candy bar?  You got it, butterfingers.  Fumbles the ball on the Coe 18 allowing a quick Coe TD.  Dutch O has to prove themselves and I thought they might do that with that opening drive TD, but then they give up the gift in Coe territory.  Ugh!
