Well, sometimes that happens.  When you get past the initial sticker shock on that score, you just have to let it go.  Certainly don't like to get rolled on your home field like that, ever, but sometimes even good teams just cant stop the bleeding when the other team gets things rolling.  I think back to the Iowa team that went down to ASU in 2004 and got housed 44-7 (and the late score for Iowa was a kick return for a TD by Walner Belleus, who incidentally went on to play for Dubuque I believe after leaving Iowa).  That Hawkeye team ended up being pretty good (BIG Co-Champs I believe).  Hopefully Central can flush it and regroup...I'm sure this isn't what those 5th year guys came back for.  Was anyone there that can provide some insight?  Was it just a "snowball-effect" or did the Dutch truly not belong on the same field?  I find the latter a little hard to believe given we are just one year removed from an even game last year.

2004 Iowa is a good metaphor.  1 week is too early to panic.  Time to get to work at practice this week and see what you can do.

I only watched the 1st half.  The 1st quarter was a fairly even contest, 7-0 Whitworth.  It reminded me a bit of the Wartburg/Monmouth game from last season as far as the Central offense.  They didn't look emotional and just sort of going through the motions.  On the defensive side of the ball, the Dutch seem to have a problem against the pass which the Whitworth offense took advantage of.  Once the ball got rolling in the 2nd quarter it just kept on going.

This will surprise no one, but I am happy with the UD victory at Bethel  ;D  They faced adversity and got the win.  Now get to come home and face Pacific next Saturday.  Just keep winning!

My wife is visiting her parents this weekend, so she should get to posting the pick-ems tomorrow.

Unfortunately I was there.  First quarter was a defensive struggle, or perhaps offensive incompetence on both sides.  Whit hit it big with a fake punt and once the confidence got going they rolled.  DB's where beat bad the whole 2nd qrt.  Dutch offense was very vanilla, pretty typical conservatism. The Dutch Run D looked good, but thats it.  Most of the second quarter success was over the same corner, or always to the same receiver?  I didn't keep track.  Walked out at halftime and toured the improved Kuyper Fieldhouse, and back to the beer.  Extremely disappointed in the offense as I thought the return of Boland and Grey would make a great combination.

Here's to hoping Whitworth is a top 5 team and/or Central just had a really horrible terrible day.

Tip of the hat to Dubuque!  Your senior QB is fun to watch.  I'm glad that the WR  #1 (Jenkins) is still a young guy.  He's solid already, and will get even better with experience, I'd think.  Also, that tight end (87) is a tank!  Didn't go down easily.

Kudos to your coach for having confidence in his kicker...after his previous 2 attempts didn't look very good (including one from almost the same distance), I thought we might steal the game there at the end of the first OT.

Best of luck the rest of the way.

UD/Bethel has been a fun series the past two years.  Not sure if the series is done after two games or if we get a couple more.  Two pretty similar teams, so it's a good test.  Best of luck to you guys as well.

Feeling down over your favorite team losing last week?  Giddy because your favorite team won last week?  Don't know what to think because your favorite team had a BYE last week?  Don't forget to get your picks made over in the pick-ems section.

Whilst I wreak havoc over on the SCIAC page, I thought I'd say a quick hello to all my IIAC friends.  Have a fun season!  I'm still bummed Cornell exited The IIAC.

A quick update for youse all...the Hot Tub business is booming, Heys Jr. is a married, tenured teacher (and having a great time); Senorita Heys is a full time Coach of Track and Field at a prominent SoCal University (Salaried w/benefits!); Rev 3 is a senior at Whittier (hence all the shouting in the SCIAC); and me and Mrs. Heys are adjusting to the emptying nest.

Good to see life is treating your family well.  It seems like Heys enjoys being a fan of purple clad D3 teams...first Cornell, and now Whittier.  It would also seem like Mr and Mrs Heys are adjusting well to the empty nest  ;)

Looking over that conference slate, it appears that over half of the conference games (excluding UD, NWU, & Coe) should be relatively even. Good weekend for football in Iowa. Hopefully the UI/ISU game is out of hand by half so I have an excuse not to go back in the second half & stream some of that Wartburg game. The wifey-to-be hoodwinked me into buying a 3-game Iowa State football ticket package.

I finally made a path between moving boxes to get to my computer.  Moving was so much easier when I was 20 years younger!

Belated congratulations to the far better Whitworth team on the their impressive win last week.  It was a tough thing to watch and I too ended up leaving at the half as I had plans for the evening that would have made it difficult to stay the whole game anyway and it was clearly over.  Central kept them in sight the first quarter, but the yardage was already going strongly the wrong way and after the successful fake punt the tide was washing us away.  Defensively we did what we always do when playing a strong passing team, play well behind the guy to avoid the big play and give them tons of easy short passes, that they were able to turn into big gains anyway.  It was our receiver #5 against theirs and they had a much better passing QB.  Riley Gray graduated and they had their QB and receivers all back and they put up huge numbers against us last year.  I expect Whitworth will have a great season and as the radio announcers mentioned frequently, those players saw Central celebrate an OT win on their field last year.  There was payback involved on their part and that always adds to momentum.

Good luck to all the teams tomorrow.  Dutch, let last week go and come out strong tomorrow!

Logan-With the Knights @ 7, I think you'll be fine. That is one way to get to an IA game; buying ISU tickets :D

Congratulations to all of yesterday's IIAC winners.  Props to Augustana on a very well played game.  I was glad to see it end.

Central finds out on Wednesday that the starting QB cannot return yet due to an injury and switches "as needed" backup Kohle Helle into the starting spot.  He responds with outstanding passing, leading rusher stats and a refusal to be caught and sacked.  Nice job!  Another player with an outstanding performance was Jon Alberts going 4-4 on field goals and hitting every extra point.

We still need a lot of work in the secondary, but we got two key interceptions and held when we had to.  Nice improvement from game one to game two.  Then again, the competition was not anywhere close.  Not to take away from Augustana, but Whitworth was outstanding.
