The sun always seems a bit brighter on the Sunday after your favorite team wins  ;D

I enjoyed the IIAC going 6-2 against non-con opposition yesterday.  With most of them lopsided wins.  Now I'm ready for the start of conference play next weekend.

Loras @ Dubuque will get my attention.  Though with our kids involved with pretty much every activity there is we only have UD/Central at the end of the season penciled in, with UD/Wartburg a possibility if our XC team doesn't make it to state.  Hopefully this nice weather we have had in Iowa sticks around the entire season!

UD @ Luther ... College visit day?

I wish, I think we either have some sort of band tryout, or cross country meet, or robotics deal that day.  We won't even make homecoming this year.  We can make UD @ Central...and if our high school doesn't qualify for state cross country then we may be able to get to UD @ Wartburg.  Otherwise every weekend is full into December.  Your tour last year did it's job.  Both my girls have talked Luther, and the city of Decorah up since our last visit.

Food for thought this week.

Central @ BVU 1pm
BVU, with a new staff, got a win in week 1 against Mayville St.  Week 2 BVU had a bye.
Will BVU, at 1-0, with 2 weeks to prepare, and playing at home have what it takes to get a W against Central?
Central, lost big week 1 to a good Whitworth team.  Central came back week 2 to get a win at home to Augustana.  Did Central just delete their week 1 debacle from their memory...right their ship week two against a decent CCIW team and now will travel to Storm Lake and walk away with a victory like they typically do?

Coe @ Nebraska Wesleyan 1pm
Much has been said about Coe losing skill position players on offense and their entire secondary on defense.  With pretty much both of their lines returning intact, is it a case of the Kohawks just reloaded and will take care of NWU rather easily this weekend?
NWU has started 0-2...but those two teams have each recorded victories over UW-Whitewater.  Have those two contests, and playing at home, given NWU the recipe for what most here would consider an upset?

Wartburg @ Simpson 1pm
Wartburg took their bye week in week 1, then the Knights dismantled what most consider a decent Monmouth team in week 2.  The old school Knights are back and will take care of business in Indianola this Saturday?
Simpson came out flat week 1, then dominated an Illinois College team picked to finish 1 game behind Monmouth in the Midwest Conference.  Simpson, playing at home for the 3rd straight week will get the win against Wartburg?

Loras @ Dubuque 7pm
Loras beat up an Elmhurst team week 1 that the Duhawks had lost to the previous year.  They then crashed back down to earth the next week with a loss at home to Aurora.  Aurora is picked for a middle of the pack finish in the weak Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.  Is Loras a Jekyll and Hyde type team and playing their rival in Dubuque will get them motivated to win @ UD for the 1st time since 2009?
Dubuque, at 2-0...with a win at Bethel through a strong aerial attack, and a home win against Pacific by running the ball up and down the field...playing at home...with a strong dislike for anything Loras, will win, and win big?

Luther has their bye week.  1st home game on the blue turf went well and the Norse got the win against long time rival St Olaf.  Now they get two weeks to heal and prepare for Dubuque.  Do they spend the next two weeks watching film and training to beat Dubuque?  Or...the Norse figure they got this in bag...spend the next two weeks either hitting the library to study...or they party like it's 1999 and drink their weight in Toppling Goliath Brews (or Busch Light)?

Discuss...if you feel like it.

Any other long time Central fans notice history repeated itself on Saturday?  Anyone remember wide receiver Lance Kooiker stepping away from starting wide receiver to be QB against Augustana when we played them in the semi-finals at Central after injuries to the first and second string QBs?  At least this time it wasn't #87 taking snaps.  Saturday it was Kohle Helle switching from starting WR to QB Central to a win against Augustana.

If we continue playing Augustana the coaches might say forget the QB, who is the WR?   :D

28 schools at the cross country meet at Starmont High today. I saw Dubuque, Loras, and Wartburg swag in the crowd. Non IIAC gear I saw was Iowa, UNI, and ...Valparaiso  :D

Having as much to do with risking going against the grain to gain ground as to overthinking, I'm taking BV at home over Central in the Pick'ems (Sorry Dutch friends).

Central's Week 1 (or weak one as the case the case may be) showing at home against Whitworth is obviously a concern.  Whitworth followed that up with a 49-10 home blowout over (my new adopted charity case) Whittier which does not map together with the Central game, unless one considers the possibility that the Dutch might not be very good.  I say this because I know that Whittier is not very good and I have a hard time accepting that Whitworth should be good enough to blow out Central at Pella 56-13 and doing so by scoring 49 unanswered points.  Even if (and they likely did) Whitworth took their foot off the gas early against the Poets, there is no way a good team, if indeed Central is, takes that big a beating at home.

Being mindful that BV's Week 1 win gives us no perspective, this game looks to be a tossup compared to the IIAC other games this week...hence the risk pick.  BV being at home tips the scale enough for me to give them a flyer.

That all said, watch Central win in a runaway and just totally dump on my well-reasoned analysis...   8-)

New superstition... It is scientific fact if I mow my lawn on game day Saturday with my lucky mower that UD will (probably) win.  Now it would seem that if I watch Sharknado on Friday night, and then mow on Saturday then both Iowa and UD will be victorious and the gridiron.  Both teams 2-0 under these conditions.  That is probably enough data to publish in a scientific journal  ;)

It's Friday...don't forget to get your pick-ems in over on the pick-ems page.
