Game day! Got a late start this am, but workout is done & getting ready to head out shortly. Question is: bevys inside or out? Rain looks like it will hold off, a little nip in the air & wind will be interesting-20ish mph. Simple game plan with this weather-run the ball effectively & don't give up the big play.

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Living in MIAA territory for the past 27 years, it looks like I will finally get to see an MIAA- IIAC match-up.  Where the game is played will determine who has the edge ... Angola or Waverly?   The Thunder has played one Orange and Black team ... while the Knights have played two Blue and White teams.  In a world where trivia and  ennui mean nothing ... Go Wartburg.  Side note:  Assistant Coach/Inside Linebackers Maury Waugh of Trine used to be Head Coach at U of D.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Great game played by two really fine teams.  Gutsy attempt by Franklin to win the game on the last play with a two-point attempt -- admire that, but glad it failed, obviously.  Franklin is clearly the best team Wartburg has faced all year, and Franklin's coach is a class act, too.  D3 football at its best.

OrangeAndBlack

Glad that the Knights have home-field advantage again next Saturday.  Looks to be another cold windy November day in Iowa.  Good luck to the Orange and Black as they prepare for Trine.

Wartburg's Sacia Offensive MVP, Willis COY +  UD Joseph Defensive MVP.

Last place Coe WAY overrepresented.
I agree, most of Coe's players are Sr's. Makes one wonder if they got credit for what the Kohawks did in '16 not how they performed in '17?
I'd be curious what exactly you are basing your statements on.  First, this is splitting hairs but Coe finished in a 3-way tie for last based on conference record.  Second, here are the totals for 1st team, 2nd team, and HM per school:
Wartburg: 17
Central: 11
Simpson: 11
Coe: 8
Luther: 7
BV: 7
UD: 6
Loras: 6
Nebraska Wesleyan: 6

WAY overrepresented seems a bit of a reach based on the parity between the rest of the conference.

Including honorable mentions is disingenuous. Typically, every player nominated by his coaching staff gets an HM, but 4 first-teamers for the LAST PLACE (don't care if it's a tie, last place is last place) team is too many. Same breakdown, but just 1st & 2nd teamers:

Team   1st Team   2nd Team   Total
Wartburg   7   5   12
Simpson   3   5   8
Central   6   1   7
Coe   4   2   6
Neb. Wesleyan   1   5   6
Dubuque   2   3   5
Buena Vista   1   3   4
Luther   1   2   3
Loras   1   2   3

I would love to hear your reasoning to dismiss those 4 players that earned First Team honors.  Peters was 1st in sacks, 1st in TFL, and 1st in Forced Fumbles.  Heitland was 3rd in sacks, 2nd in TFL, and 1st in Fumbles Recovered.  As for the 2 OL honored, since pancake blocks and sacks given up aren't stats that are kept on the IIAC Conference page I'll just have to go with the voters opinions.  Nebraska Wesleyan had the same total between 1st & 2nd team (6), why no uproar?

Because I never played against NWU and they don't have any fans to antagonize on this board... duh

Duh, shame on me for not taking this into consideration.  ;)

If you happen to find yourself watching the Senior Bowl this year, you will have an IIAC athlete to cheer on.  IIAC Defensive MVP Michael Joseph

I'm really excited to see that Matt Sacia, Wartburg's quarterback, is one of ten, and the only junior, finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy.  I urge folks to vote for him.  Matt is a student in Wartburg's top-flight pre-med program, so his academic credentials are on a par with the athletic achievements.  As you know, one votes on this D3football website.

I got my vote in.  Good luck to Mr. Sacia

Camped out in Mason City for the night. Really interested in seeing the Wartburg-Trine game tomorrow.
