I'm with ya Doolittle: Central changed its logo then the conference is no longer in Iowa. Really?  First it was silly Penn leaving Coe and Cornell entering the Upper Iowa leaves and all hell breaks loose. As a child of the seventies if find this new world unimaginable.  We need a name that relates to our geography somehow. The only good news is that the old Central C remains on the helmets. If it goes away I may just become a MIAC fan. Can't stand Hamms though, you guys up Nort' got any tasty beer?

I can get behind American Rivers.  For me, Iowa is more a state of mind.

Kudos to the powers that be who came up with a good name for the larger conference.  American Rivers is a descriptive and distinctive name and much better than many possible alternatives.  (A friend suggested IowaBra!)  I would like to know some of the reasoning behind the conference expansion a couple years ago, but once that decision was made this latest decision is sensible, I think.

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

When it comes to American rivers, my favorite is the mighty South Skunk.  It is the last one I cross on my way to Pella.

Not a fan of Am Rivers but don't hate it as much as the #riversrise  For those of us from Waverly (and probably CR + Decorah and other river towns) who have been thru  major flooding events,  when I see #riversrise I think #GetTheDamnSandbagsReady, #IsTetanusShotUptoDate?

3 months short of my 77th birthday, the change from IIAC to ARC seems/feels like something important has passed by.  But I  also have learned the one constant in life is change.  I'm just glad I always will be part of the Spartan Nation.  GO BLUE!

I like the name change. More reflects the current makeup of the league. After winning the men's basketball title NWU gave notice we are now more than a nice little conference of colleges in quaint Iowa towns.

Wartburg names new assistant.

Matt Tschetter, a 2012 Wartburg alum, has been named an assistant coach for the Wartburg College football team, head coach Rick Willis announced today.
"We are excited to welcome Matt back to Wartburg," said Willis. "He has gained valuable experience the past three years and is a great addition to our veteran staff."

What a missed opportunity to become the Lower Midwest Athletic Conference.  If there's an upper there is definitely a lower.

Yep. Life is quite different in the Pleasure Capital of The Plains (thats what we called it when I was at NWU) than it is in Waverly, IA.

The American Rivers Conference? Really? Being a Midwest guy, I naturally first think of the Mississippi, but there are lots of well known American rivers. Are we talking schools in the Hudson River Valley? The Ohio River Valley? Perhaps schools along the banks of the Rio Grande? Or in states the Colorado River runs through? 😏

American Rivers just doesn't seem like it immediately conjures up an image of Iowa, or of Nebraska for that matter. But I guess what matters is whether fans and students of the member schools like it. 🤗

We were at the Traer Wind Up Days last night.  Talked to some recent IIAC players and middle aged to even old farts with IIAC ties.  None thought American Rivers Conference was a good choice.  Most thought the IIAC name had some cache and shouldn't matter with other schools now in the conference.  Some thought if a name change did occur we should have a name that better describes our geography.  Something that notes our Midwest location.  All doubted, even with further expansion, that we would be a large enough conference that "American" should be in the name.  Was mentioned that even though you paid a lot of money to a marketing company/PR firm someone should have raised their hand and asked if there wasn't a better option than American Rivers Conference.  Each conversation ended with a shrug and an "oh well"
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Our state (of Iowa) is bounded by arguably the two greatest rivers in America, the Mississippi (or "Great River"), which is historically the dividing point between East and West (see the Arch in St. Louis) and the Missouri, which is the nation's longest river.  What better geographic markers could there be?  I think our athletic directors and presidents, and fine commissioner, Chuck Yrigoyen, deserve our trust as they steer through changing circumstances.  In other words, the decision is made; quit your bitchin'.

Fannosaurus Rex

I'm not "bitchin," but I would have preferred, "The Pork Belt Intercollegiate  Athletic Conference."

Having poured over Kickoff 2018 the past few days,  I can only think how all that info could have impacted my "job" as sports editor of The Que, the UD student newspaper, back in the 60's.   Thanks Pat and crew for all you do.
