So Pat ... maybe I missed an announcement elsewhere,  but is "Around The Region" a thing of the past now?

Yes -- we didn't make an announcement other than a couple of lines in Adam Turer's Around the Nation column. We had a few guys move out of region and/or retire, so rather than hire four new people, we decided to rethink the concept.

ATR has been around as a concept since 1999, even if budgetary reasons kept us from having ATR columns each of the first 19 seasons. It was due to come up for reconsideration. We'll have 2-4 feature columns per week instead, but I think we will get better storytelling.

Is the message board for the ARC slow for any particular reason?  There seemed to be a hectic and enjoyable amount of banter the past few years, but now, not a lot of discussions.  Too soon?  Better when conference games get cranking?

Darn near all the Wartburg posters left within about a week of each other awhile back.  When that happened you slowly saw the Central posters fade away a bit.  Now just a few of us left.  About 10 years ago you had a healthy cast of Central and Wartburg posters, a decent amount of Coe posters, and each of the other teams had 4-5 posters that would somewhat regularly contribute.  Kind of sad, I always enjoyed the banter, plus it was nice to talk to others that shared my love of small college football.

As for this week, Dubuque @ Coe should be an early glimpse into whether either of those 2 schools will be a serious contender in the conference.

Wartburg, Central, and Simpson all playing at home I would think means good things for them.

BVU is youthful.  Luther is young, and with a new coaching staff.  Neb Wes, I just don't know enough about.  They struggled each of the last 2 years, but their result last week at Illinois College was impressive.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

It is my vague recollection (which is pretty much the only kind of recollection I have), that back a couple of years ago, someone suggested that we move the conversation to some other venue.  I can't remember which one.  Anyway, after that, the traffic dropped way off.

I wonder if a 9-9 non-conference record in the first two weeks of play works against any excited discussion of ARC teams?

The NAIA message board I've been on for years (where NWU used to be discussed) is also slowing down.  tried to generate a few topics, but nothing caught on.

As a Cornell fan, I blame myself.

DBQ vs the 'hacks:  The 'hacks need this one.  A win for Sparty gives them hope.  A loss for the 'hacks relegates them middle or lower status.

All seems right in a world when the Kaniggets and Dutch rule the roost.

But the thing is, back 10 years ago or so, we all knew players and coaches...that's the biggest thing.  Now they are just teams of kids we don't know coached by guys we don't know.  There is less personal connection.

Dubuque leads Coe 6-3 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Dubuque went for 2 after their TD.  Coe announcers mentioned the Dubuque kickers were struggling during pregame.

Fast moving game.  Dubuque took opening drive for a TD.  Coe took their next drive for a FG.  Dubuque 2nd drive finished the 1st quarter.  1st play of 2nd quarter Dubuque fumbled.  Coe drove for a TD.  10-6 Coe leads.

The Coe AD just said it will be interesting to see who the 1st American Rivers Conference champion will be.  Are we sure the records and history is staying as-is?

Dubuque leads 20-10 over Coe at halftime.

From Coe announcers, halftime or early 3rd quarters scores...
Central 28-0 over Luther
Wartburg 28-0 over BVU
Simpson 27-14 over NWU
