Dutch score TD on 3rd and 6 with 21 seconds left to win 17 to 16.  Credit the Storm for coming in and playing a great game.  They had a good game plan and executed it well.  It was such a phenomenal game that I would strongly encourage the officials for today's game to catch it on demand because they really missed a great one.  I have watched Central football since Vern Den Herder's days in a Dutch uniform and have watched all levels of football, but today's crew was unprecedented in my experience.

That said, I still have to give credit to Simpson for playing a great game. On to Wartburg.  Go Dutch!

Oops, how could I forget? Congratulations to the Central Dutch for winning the showdown of the only two undefeated teams in the conference.  Way to go Dutch!

We are en route to Kansas City so keep the board updated with scores please. I'll be checking the d3football scoreboard but sometimes the iiac page is a bit behind real time.

Yes -- if schools don't post scores on our site, they might not get updated until the game is final. ::shrug::

Game winning TD for Central over Simpson.  4th and 10 from the 15, QB avoids a sack and finds receiver at the back of the endzone.

Central @ Wartburg should be the game of the week.
Loras gets a chance to show the conference they are to be taken seriously.  Simpson looks to rebound at home after a heartbreaking loss in Pella
Luther tries to build some momentum after their win last week.  NWU playing for pride now.
Dubuque tries to stay in the title hunt.  BVU has to be demoralized by now.  This game will be a test of their character.

Central has some outstanding seniors, but in so many key positions they are a young team. It is so awesome to know that they have such a bright future ahead.  Saturday it is Wartburg and even though the battle of undefeated conference teams is over another hurdle is ahead of us. The experience Wartburg players have over Central players worries me. But they showed that when things are not going well and the breaks are not going their way they still find a way to win. Saturday is another big game and the Dutch will be ready.

I believe the Central vs Wartburg game is always the game of whatever week its played!  Normally tightly contested and always played hard with an influence on the conference champs in most cases.  For the last two years the typically narrow margin of victory was 24 pts for each team (Central in 2016 and Warty in 2017)

Even though the Dutch trail in the last 10 games by a 3-7 mark we still own the all time series 43-23 and I expect it to go 44-23 on Saturday!  Throw out the stats, this game will go to the team that finishes, and so far thats been the Dutch!

Is it time to talk about playoff implications?  Loss for Central and we could end up in a 3 way tie, Big Ten Rule, = Simpson goes or did that change when with the new name too??

I don't expect Central to lead start to finish, nor do I expect them to necessarily be the first team to score; though it they want to surprise me, I am all in.  I do believe they will win on Saturday, I expected them to be good coming into the season while still posting as Klompen and they have only solidified my opinion. When I get excited about their future it is not because they won't finish strong. They can run the table for the regular season and could represent in a loaded West region. I get excited because just as they have improved each game this season, they are not going to peak for probably two years! Fun times for Central football.

Central sits at 7-0 and has yet to crack the D3 Top 25.  Opinion poll time.  Should Central stub their toe Saturday do one of both teams show up as receiving votes in the next top 25 or does Wartburg, who would still have a worse record than Central, not only leap frog ahead of us, but also get into the ratings because it was expected of them all along and not Central?

Pat Coleman

This is super highly dependent on what else happens on Saturday. However, I don't see two-loss Wartburg going from zero votes back into the Top 25 solely on the strength of beating the team with the 26th-most votes.

The IIAC got way more respect than the conference named after a Disney attraction.

Thanks for the feedback. I would guess it would be combined with someone else losing also. But I am really expecting Central to make their Top 25 debut after they win on Saturday.

If I recall correctly, the last time a 3 way tie happened in the ARC was in 2002 when Coe beat Wartburg, Wartburg beat Central and Central beat Coe, leaving 3 teams tied with 1 loss in the conference.  At that time they applied the "Reverse Rose Bowl" Rule, in which they eliminate the team that most recently went to the playoffs from the 3-way tie and then took head to head results.  Central went to the playoffs in 2001 so they were eliminated from the tie and Coe took the automatic bid with their win over Wartburg, Coe was the 3 seed and Wartburg got an at-large bid with a 4-seed.  If Wartburg beats Central this week and then Wartburg, Simpson and Central win out, that would leave a 3-way tie at the end of this season, I think it Wartburg would be eliminated from the 3 way tie and Central would have the head-to-head advantage over Simpson...That being said, there is still a bunch of football left to be played and the UD vs Wartburg & Simpson, 3 of 4 games for Loras vs 1st or 2nd place teams, Central vs Coe & Wartburg...anything can happen, but that's why football is fun this time of year.

Seven weeks into the season and we have 5 teams either in the lead or within 1 game of 1st in the conference.  I can't imagine that happens too often.

A Wartburg win this weekend will really confuse things.  Then, even the Simpson/Loras loser would still be within a game of 1st in the conference.

Trying to figure out playoff implications...

Love the Pepe Silvia scene. Have used a clip from that in the podcast!

We could keep this nice and simple by having Central win out. Then we don't have to go through all that confusion.  I agree there are a lot of games left to play and many of them with top teams playing each other.
