Outside the Crate

I'm told Pat Coleman attended the Central/Wartburg game in Waverly this past weekend.  I hope you enjoyed your visit to Walston-Hoover, Pat!  Thanks for visiting us.  Sorry 'bout the wind...

So they re-ranked the conferences and the ARC slipped from a preseason ranking of 11 to 14.  Now I realize I haven't been around as much the past couple of years, but when the back did we slide all the way to 11th?  Now we are the 14th ranked conference?  I guess that means Central needs to run the table to get ranked by the end of the season.  Then we need to keep Pat from attending any of our games as he tends to only attend games we lose.    :o  Finally we need to make a deep playoff run.  Good thing is we don't need to worry about those last two until the regular season ends. So in keeping with playing the tough competition at the end of the season we better just play a statement game on Saturday.

I've been to two Central games, I believe. I don't consider that to be a representative sample. :)

Last IIAARC game I was at, the conference's representative won.

I'll spare the smite and just give you a heavy eye roll. 🙄
I really welcome you to attend Pat. I just wish we would be more impressive when you do.
Sorry Dutch, this one's on me.  ;D ;D ;D

With all the talk about the Central - Simpson  - Wartburg possibilities,  conspicuously absent from the conversation is UD.  Before the final whistle blows, the Spartans will have a big say on who makes the playoffs.  Go Blue!

I'm content to let the Spartans fly under the radar and out of others thoughts  ;)

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

For some pot stirring, we look at occasional poster on here Hansen Ratings, and his playoff projections.

https://twitter.com/LogHanRatings/status/1055277573188579328

Playoff chances...

Central - 40%
Wartburg - 34%
Simpson - 23%
Dubuque - 3%

Dubuque could have the most straight forward playoff path.  Win out, and hope Central takes a loss against Coe and/or Loras.

Otherwise for the other teams, winning outright, or 2 way ties, or 3 way ties involve a whole mess of what ifs and what nots depending on how the last 3 weeks play out.  I'm looking forward to it!

Central has two great games left to close out a fantastic regular season. Before the year started, I thought second place was likely where they would be as first place was probably still a year away. Here we are with two games left that I believe the Dutch are capable of winning. Injuries are part of the game and as last week showed, they often come at the worst possible time. We had a lot of issues with snaps that hurt us, but that is a problem that can get solved in practice this week. If Hawkins can't return, Egli has shown he can step up. He has had more varsity experience than Hawkins had when he was out in that position last year. I am excited about this team. Wish there was more season left. Playoffs are still a possibility and I am happy to take a little help from the teams in Dubuque to extend our season.

Are these the predictions from Hansenratings because if so, I might have to tell you the same thing I told my accountant when he told me how much I owed last year..."I'm not convinced you're reading that spreadsheet correctly"...  ;)

When I clicked on the link I thought it said
Wartburg - 66%
Simpson - 23%
Central - 12%
Dubuque - 2%

But I might also be reading the spreadsheet incorrectly...  :'(
Either way, It's kind of fun when so many games have playoff implications this late in the year, and while it doesn't do much for our pool C chances as a conference, I do like that there are so many teams in the league who are competitive instead of just 1 or 2 who run away with things every year.

Heading out within the hour for Dubuque.  Wife, 3 kids, our oldest child's boyfriend.  The dog stays home to guard the house  ;)

Good luck to all the teams today.  In a perfect world, UD picks up a win...Central, Simpson, Wartburg all take losses  ;D

Wartburg 57-14 over Coe.  Sacia again with five touchdowns, and JoJo McNair had four including one on the end of a 98 yard kick return.  Sacia was 18 of 21 for 306 yards.

I think Wartburg is demonstrating they are now, at this point in the season, evolving into the best team in the conference, but I know there are many of our partisans who will disagree.

How about getting it straight?   Wartburg beats 4-4 Loras (not Coe) ... not quite as impressive a victory as you would have us believe.  With a 3-way tie for first place in the ARC that doesn't include Central at this point, UD's next two games are make-or-break for their season.  Since Simpson already handed the Knights a big "L',  I think it is possible we will  be seeing the Storm in the playoffs if UD can't derail them. In the meantime,  GO BLUE!

I would say Dubuque @ Simpson would be the game of the week with all the conference title implications that brings with it.

Luther @ Wartburg is always a fun rivalry game.

Loras @ Coe has 2 teams with a lot to play for towards finishing with a winning record and building momentum for next year.

BVU and NWU in the battle of initials.
