I was away this weekend, though I did get back for Central's final home game. Congratulations to Coe on a well executed game plan. I thought things might go well when a freshman starting deep for the first time on special teams ran the opening kick back for a touchdown. I also thought Egli did a very good job in his first start at QB. But the Wartburg game pointed out some weak areas on defense and Coe's new defensive coordinator knew Central inside and out, making for a challenging game. I would have done things differently both at the end of the game and in OT after holding Coe to a FG, but then again, hindsight is 20/20.

I thought we would have a really good team this year prior to the start of the season and the Dutch exceeded my expectations including being tied with Wartburg after the first quarter. I thought we might start slower and come back. I didn't expect the Hawkins injury and still believe we could have been undefeated or only the loss to Wartburg if he was healthy. But as I have said all year, this team is young and will have a great last game at Loras and a bright future. Egli included.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

If Simpson and Wartburg each win their final two regular season games, is it a safe assumption that Simpson receives the playoff selection?  Kudos to Simpson for that OT victory in Waverly. Reminds me of how Wartburg's loss to UD felt in 2015. Not as close a game back then, but took the bloom off an otherwise successful season. Thanks to Matt Sacia and the Knights for giving Knights fans some great football to watch these past few years. Hope they finish the regular season with two convincing wins.

Sounds like you don't think UD has a chance in heck to beat Simpson  ;)

You're having a great race for the title.  Hoping that Monmouth's win over Wartburg looks better and better when the dust settles.

A cool story about Wartburg's Matt Sacia and his mother. Both Conference MVP's during their athletic careers @ Wartburg.

" Last fall, another first was added to the Knights portfolio when then-junior Matt Sacia was named the Iowa Conference MVP for football. Alone, his honor wasn't enough to make history, though still impressive. What cemented Sacia's place in the NCAA Division III history books was the fact that his mother, Stephanie Reinert Sacia '91, was named the conference's MVP for women's golf in 1990. The addition of Matt's honor made them the first mother-son duo to accomplish this."

Go Knights - Beat Luther!
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Good luck to the teams playing tomorrow. Wish Central was playing. Only one game left for the Dutch this year.  Hate to see this team's season end. It has been such a pleasure watching them.

Knights2013

Could be an interesting day, at least in the Cedar Valley area. Chilly, and looking like there is a good chance of rain for most of the afternoon - Knights should have the upper hand versus Luther, but this is a game Luther always plays tough in, no matter the records.

Simpson/UD will be an interesting game to watch - as much as I really don't want to...pulling for UD to win this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday watching some football!

Go Knights!

So UD vs WB for the championship next week. Wish Central was playing in that championship game. It was within reach. Go UD.

Outside the Crate

Got to go to Dubuque next weekend!  Rah! Rah!

This keeps the championship race and playoff bid simple.  Thank goodness.

Wartburg  6-1  7-2
Central  ...5-2  7-2
Simpson  .5-2  6-3
Coe  .........4-3  5-4
Loras  ......3-4  4-5

Central @ Loras  1pm
Wartburg @ Dubuque  1pm

Will have to say Wartburg @ Dubuque is the game of the week.  Everything on the line there.
Central and Loras have a lot to play for.  Central wants to take some momentum into next season.  Loras badly wants a .500 season to their credit
Simpson wants to go to Storm Lake and show they are an emerging power in the conference.  BVU badly wants to avoid and ofer conference season
Coe wants a winning record to their credit.  Luther wants to get two conference wins again.

Next Saturday can't get here quick enough!
