Something I've never seen in my 50+ years on this planet.  The down chains were broken on a sideline play.  They broke out a 2nd set of chains.  Dubuque up 20-14 maybe 5 minutes into the 4th quarter.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Congratulations to the Dutch on their win today. Luther debuted a new QB who can pass. Not exactly what the Dutch were expecting.

What is going on with WB? They don't normally spot opponents a cushy early lead. This is two weeks in a row now. A new strategy to convince fans their games aren't boring?  :)

Dubuque fought hard all day and it paid off.

Congratulations Dubuque

Time to upset someone Kohawks.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Defenses were the star for both teams in the Coe/Dubuque game.  Less than 250 offensive yards for each team.

Now I'm hoping for all kinds of chaos the rest of the season with everyone taking a couple losses.

Congratulations also to Dubuque,Simpson and Wartburg. Lots of happy pick-em winners today since we all picked the same teams last I looked. Heard Simpson QB was hurt in their game and that it didn't look good for him. Thoughts and prayers out to him. Tough break when you are having a great season. Nice win for UD today. We will see you in Pella next weekend.

Simpson's website has them going all the way. We just happen to share the same website provider.

Thanks for pointing it out. Easy for me to hide when I know about it.

Congratulations to Central's football team for cracking the rankings for the coaches poll. Also congrats to Blade Durbala for making the D3 team of the week.  The dutch will have a big challenge with the Dubuque this week. Like last year they have played the easier part of the schedule thus far. I can't believe we're halfway through the season already. Go Dutch! Good thing it's going to be too cold to mow the lawn on Saturday.

Outside the Crate

I listened to this week's podcast with Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan, which began with a discussion of the penalty enforced on Mary Hardin-Baylor, including the vacating of all their wins in 2016 and 2017 including the '16 national championship.  Coleman and McMillan, particularly the latter, seemed to think the penalty was excessive.  I disagree.  Furthermore, I think the coach should have been fired.  Loaning a car to a prospective student and then an enrolled student for 18 months who, it should be noted, was a big-time player, requires the maximum penalty.  And frankly, I'm a bit tired of so-called Christian colleges in Texas breaking the rules (Southern Methodist, Baylor, MHB).  Their prayers probably go something like this: "Please, Jesus, don't let us get caught!"   Then, of course, the coach played dumb, like he wasn't sure it was a rule violation.  What planet is he from?

Well, here's the thing -- we don't seem to have any way to have a middle ground here. The only way to sanction in something like this is to vacate contests. So, should UMHB (self-reported, first-time offender) have the same punishment as Thomas More (not self-reported, previous offense) does? I don't think that makes sense.

Where is the middle ground that encourages self-reporting?

Perhaps vacating the wins is the middle ground, there sure are penalties more severe than vacating victories.

I am excited to see what Central can do against, what I expect is, stiffer competition than they have faced so far.  Go Dutch!

Dubuque leads Central 14-0 at the half.  Neither team playing well.

Dubuque 5 trips into the red zone.  14 points.  Fumbled, turned the ball over on downs, TD, INT, TD

Central 3 INT's, two horrendous punts, very little offense.

I'm happy with a half time lead on the road!!!

Congratulations to Dubuque's football team! Dubuque came to play and was very well coached. Central's offense didn't bring their A game and The coaches could not make adjustments. The defense played well for Central in the first quarter, but they were just on the field too long. The sad bright spot was that It is easier to lose when you are behind all day. I agree with the great Doolittle on that one.

We can still write our own season story, we just added the drama to the book today. Time to shake it off and step it up.
