Wartburg travels to Michigan and Central hosts Oshkosh.

Go IIAC! errr.... ARC!

Congratulations to both Central and Wartburg.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

There could be a lot of orange in Holland, Michigan thiscoming Saturday.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

As an Iowan, good luck to Central & Wartburg!

I think Wartburg or Central could win at Hope in most years, I was looking forward to that game because of the sister school affiliation. Somehow I think Wartburg will be happy to take some revenge on the wrong Flying Dutchman team. OshKosh might be 8-2, but they beat Whitewater, so we have our work cut out for us. Glad to have it in Pella on Saturday. Go Dutch!

Great first round. Potentially the most competitive second round games ever. I think this might be one of the best brackets ever put together. I will defer to Pat's critique ultimately as he seems to be one of the most knowledgeable around. Right behind Keith ::)

Another match-up for the Knights with the Dutch-types.  It should be interesting!  I've never been to Holland, but their former president, now retired, was president of Northwestern/Orange City for several years and is an old friend  Perhaps I can connect with him and get a free Dutch letter!

The interesting thing for me is that it's Wartburg's strength of schedule that made this Pool C bid possible.  I hadn't paid attention to this, and was surprised to see Wartburg's SOS was 10th!  Both Susquehanna (another "Luter" school) and John Carroll bit the dust because of SOS even though they were also 9-1.

Needless to say, I hope both Central and Wartburg make it to Round Two!

He was my db coach when I played at Hope.  He is a great gentleman, great educator, great coach and great president.  He and his wife were fantastic for both Hope and Northwestern.  As I'm sure you know, he currently came out of retirement temporarily to assist local Holland Christian H.S. with some administrative/operational challenges.   Anyway, nothing against you Iowans, but, I hope we make it to Round Two instead of Wartburg. ;D  I look for a great game Saturday.  Our current head athletic trainer and one of our assistant football coaches used to be at Wartburg and our head baseball coach is a Wartburg alum star athlete!  Small world. ;)

Dr. Bultman is a great guy all around. When my dad worked for him and his son was a sales rep for Louisville Slugger he always helped us get great deals on bats and gloves. I'm sure he'll be in attendance!

Ditto all that hazzben!  Thanks for sharing.  I'll be seeing him this week I'm sure.

hazzben ... are you planning on making the trek over to Hope for Saturday?  Maybe you, former d3db and me (or any other D3football readers) can set up at least a quick face-to-face before the game ... or if not then at half-time or after the game.

Pat ... will someone be down in Holland to cover the game ?

Central will be facing yet another team capable of making a big comeback on Saturday, so the defense will need to step up. UW-O doesn't seem to pass as much as most ARC teams do and their QB has not been as efficient as some we have played, so that should help. They have a lot of size, so I am hoping we are faster and can get some speed mismatches with our receivers. They do have one of only 2 kickers in the nation rated above Alberts, so that is a draw as the difference is miniscule. The one thing we need to do better on is special teams. Our punting and defense on returns has not been sharp against the good opponents. I sure hope we get those kinks worked out. We could just score every time we have the ball to resolve that issue. ;)

Union, Hope and Central are all representing the Dutch in the playoffs this weekend. That has to be a record for an uncommon team name. I lived in Holland for awhile and enjoyed the Hope games while I was there. It felt like home sweet home and I will always be a Hope fan unless they are playing Central and even then, they are a sister school. My allegiance to the ARC will keep me neutral in this one. I think Wartburg can handle them though.

I won't be in attendance, but if I was I'd have definitely been up for meeting. Love getting to meet folks from the boards in person.
