Holy crap!  Central wins too!

ARC with 2 in the 2nd round.  Nice!

DBQ1965

Brief summary from Holland,  Michigan.   Hope took an early 3-0 lead in the 1st quarter and then the Knights  defense took over and shut down Hope while creating plenty of scoring opportunities for the Wartburg offense.  The Flying Dutch received the 2nd half kick-off, and while controlling the ball and the clock for 12:53 could not score.   One of the Knights TDs came when their defense blocked a Hope punt and ran the recovery into the end zone.  Final score was 41-3.  Next week in Whitewater could be interesting.

Congratulations also to Central.  The game in Wheaton also will be a challenge.  Now we will see how the ARC stacks up.

I hate to admit it, but that play is called the Dutch Crap Special. It only happens against the Flying Dutch. Congratulations to Wartburg and Central! Way to represent!

Wow! What a game in Pella today. Nice crowd for both teams. Central did not look like the team I know and love in the first half. That disaster of a first half ending spoke volume for how things were going. Little did I know we were just lulling them into a false sense of security. Who knew how tricky that trick play was! :o  Those coaches are always thinking, they didn't want to be accused of being out coached again. ;)

So they dug back into their playbook and etched together something we have not tried this year. We made a comeback of our own. Thanks to all the good examples from Simpson, Wartburg, Coe, etc. I was a bit surprised we didn't go for two at the end of the game to avoid OT, but I guess the momentum was with us. I am glad we came out on the winning side of that 2 point attempt. They had a fantastic kicker, but must have felt like Central against Wartburg. OshKosh had a great team and a huge size advantage. Way to have in there and flush the first half away Dutch! Celebrate tonight and get ready for a big road test next week!

Some additional summary:
Yes, I was impressed with Wartburg. Their speed, size and playoff experience was very evident today. Both of their QBs are very good-the backup looks like he could be a starter. As to the TD on the blocked punt, I knew that was going to happen eventually before the game ended as Wartburg almost got 3 of those before it occurred.

Hope started out excellent and I thought we would really have a chance and that the game would be close as Pat and staff predicted. However, a false start penalty in the redzone which led to the early field goal in the first quarter zapped Hope's energy and essentially set the tone for the rest of the game. Wartburg's pass rush was relentless. Hope had chances to make some early plays (knocked down passes and/or interceptions before Wartburg:s QB started connecting with wide open receivers) , but just couldn't make those happen. Wartburg's RBs are quick. Aside from the loss (and overcast skies when sun was predicted), what put an even more damper on the day was that one of our starting RBs sustained a fractured tibia in the second half. Anyway,  congrats to Wartburg.

Edit: for spelling.

I don't know which is worse, watching Central trying not to blow a big lead or watching Central trying to come back from being way down.  Either way, I'm exhausted.

Congrats to the ARC!  Two teams move on, and I think both have a chance to win a second contest in the playoffs.  That's probably never happened before, so...

I'm impressed that Central managed to overcome another really good team.  I thought after the first half that it was all over.  Wow, was I wrong!

I thought Wartburg had the better draw this week (guess I was right about that), but I think Central gets the better draw next week (Wheaton vs. UWW).  I was in the stands the last time Wartburg played UWW in the playoffs, and we had the game under control early in the 4th quarter when our quarterback got knocked out.  Ouch!  I'd love to get some revenge.

Finally, we know where the Dutch play good football -- and it's Pella!

Definitely don't tune into the Linfield-Chapman game.

I would say Central has the tougher draw again next week with #3 Wheaton than #7 UWW. Though neither team is easy. We beat the team that beat UWW so that should give you confidence for that match up. Wheaton seems to be clicking on all cylinders right now. Hopefully the Dutch coaches will have the team ready to roll next week. I don't mind being the surprise winner.

Old Dutch

Just trying to take it all in.  We were one punt away from heading out to the Peanut Pub in the 3rd quarter, but then it became 31-10, 31-17, 31-24 . . . WTH we're now in the game!

Seeing how Central was playing with a quick tempo in the early stages of the game, that became a great strategy, the big guys were getting worn down by the sometimes hurry-up offense.  UWO coach admitted in the post game interview they were tired.  No way we score in OT if the UWO D is fresh.  And the adjustments by the Defense at halftime were brilliant, whatever they were!

McMartin in the post game simply said "hey guys if Wartburg can do it so can we!"  or something like that. ;D

When we get to this point in the playoffs, the differences in most teams are miniscule, everybody's good and you got to be on top of your game.  Congrats to the Dutch and the Knights on big wins and good luck next week,  we're both gonna need it.

I wanted to go watch the video of the game, but it is password protected. What's up with that? Are we trying to make sure Wheaton doesn't get any extra video to watch?

USee

Wheaton gets the UWO game as part of its package so that's not the reason

NCAA games are not allowed to be archived. Now, not all schools know or understand that, but that is the rule.
